Re the first khushal: yes [second one above is very accurate too ]
Same with the Christians. Protestants have that pathetically silly ritual of declaring that they accept Jesus and that's all it takes to become a fresh clean soul.
Who ever heard of anything so illogical !
Catholics and Orthodox are much more sophisticated, having the Sacrament of Confession. They believe similarly that all their sins are automatically removed.
While some sins COULD be reduced by either that or going on Haj, the person has to first admit that he or she went astray, then COMPLETELY AND PERMANENTLY CHANGE for the side of Purity.
Not regress back at the first temptation along the way, as too many do. They assume all they have to do is go back to Confession or Umra and their record will be wiped clean by God.
But: these sorts of 'Band-Aid repentances' are not going to work. They are the style of the average person of this epoch who gets into bad stuff, particularly at a very early age They are searching for the same quick fix, so to speak, of a way to relieve that nagging guilt - IF they experience any pangs of conscience at all.
So you are wise to recommend that people never even get near that slippery slope down the road to the fires of Hell...
Notice how widespread the phenomenon of addiction is in America? Seems everyone is addicted to something. The only people who aren't are those who have will power AND Faith ! The demons brought to one by indulging in bad behaviors make sure to erode the resistance of the target person so that they will not be content with a little bad. But they have to chase after more and more horrible things. Then they STILL are never "filled up" because this is the endless cycle of addiction. Hence those empty hearts and empty souls.
Moral of the story: one never will be happy by putting one foot on this path to bad, because the demons which pressure him or her to start on it are going to push the person aggressively to be worse and worse sunk into the mire of that particular indulgent path. Why are movie stars so miserable for example, one must remember, when tempted to think their "glamorous" mode of living besieged by admirers is appealing.
Unknown, good for you for making the absolutely right decisions!
I sent a friend of mine your earlier essay as an inspiring example of how EVERYONE should be, and why the Pashtun way is so special and the Muslim cultural dynamics are correct. I wanted her to contrast HER New York Jewish upbringing which is the exactly the opposite in every respect ! So it was helpful that you put that part in about the extraordinarily pushy Jewish woman.
