when you look at it, in every other culture, it's worn by the ordinary man as a part of his daily routine which makes it a necessity.. pashtun men wear it for a different reason. for pashtuns it's more of a valour thing. it's worn like a crown. so i don't think they originated from the same place.

i think its actually the opposite. pashtuns wear lungee's in their everyday life, not as a ceremonial thing whereas in other non afghan cultures, turbans in general are more ceremonial or at least not an everyday fixture. besides sikhs, afghans are probably the most "turbaned" country on earth.
