Kameez partog is a change from what was even worn just 100 years ago. There was a guy in Peshawar named Sultan Muhammad "Telaye" who used to wear golden robes. He was the brother of Dost Muhammad and was referred to as "Telaye Bibi" for his clothing.
The author may be alluding to the royal conquerers like Ashraf.... its not far fetched that the conquerers adopt some of the clothing of the conquered. That is after all what Alexander did when he sacked parts of Persia and what his Macedonians criticized him for.
To see the difference between the current clothing styles and the rugged tribal ones from before look up pics of Faqir e Ipi and you can see the rather obvious differences between the basic Pashtun clothes of the past age and the new age.
I think the turban of Ahmad Shah covering his war helmet lends some credence to the description of what they used to wear.
Checked it out, and that is a long coat, not a robe. If you look closer and examine the picture you can see the open area and him wearing the kameez. Like i have said before, the perisans were not concerned about spreading their culture but to obtain as much land as possible. The Scythians (supposed ancstors of pashtuns) were the first ones to wear trousers and influenced this clothing in europe and parts of persia. BTW, historians themselves say that pashtun culture is unique and has very little outside influnece. I can say that persians borrowed some of the culture customs of pashtuns, like our turbans when they invaded afgahnistan.
BA, you gotta be kidding me. The rulers of Afghanistan were all persianized to some degree. They were royals, so obviously they would adopt some foreign clothing. Even ahmad shah durrani who ruled in india was influenced by Mughal culture, come one afghan kings even referred to themselves as shah's.

Yeah I am agreeing with you. So I am saying the traditional clothing differed than what Dost Mohmad and them would start to wear... I think the author sorta means to allude to that. Where the trick down occurs is the turban which went from being the green, white, red style you see wrapping around Ahmad Shah Baba's war helmet to the persianized version with Pashtun variations on the tie and colors we see now.

I think we need to see a visual between the 2 turbans to start jumping to a conclusion.
Typical perisan turban
Pakhtun Turban
You can see they look nothing like each other and that Persian variant always had a huge cone sticking up from the top, while the pashtun variant had the lash coming down with a pointed tip at the top, and always came stripped. You also have to take into consideration that Afghanistan lies on the silk road so it would make sense that other empires, especially the Persians would borrow some of our customs. They even borrowed our loy attan for gods sake!
Does any one know the history of the afghan turban? me and my dad were talking and all of a sudden this came up as a topic. He then later tells me that the lungee is actually a tajik thing and a russian turban? like wtf? im pretty sure tajiks DON'T wear that. I also heard that attan came from somewhere around south india.
Honeslty i'm starting to thing that "Pashtuns" are a lie and their whole culture is an import of other peoples cultures. I don't if he was trolling but the lungee sure as hell doesn't belong to tajiks. Your thoughts?
You think that your dad was trolling?

Last I checked, Qunduz wasn't. You do seem to write a lot about her though. In the past 48 hours, you have said Qunduz about 30-50 times. How do you know she is really a female? Qunduz could be a 50 year old guy having a good kick out of all this for all you know. Stop being so obsessed with him/her. Is your dad planning on marrying you anytime soon?
Again with the verbal insults?!!! Where are the mods when you need them. First you lash at my mother then my father. Pleae learn some manners you troll. Anyways you said you are out of school, when are you going to get married? Or are you wating for me... Anyways I suggest you don't reply back because I don't want you spamming this thread with your idiocy.
^ Mrs. Qunduz, why do you keep following me around.

Now you are just lying, sir. You began this by cornering me and not minding your own business. Even still, I was respectful and patient but you don't stop. And I never lashed out against your mother or your father. That is wrong.
I am a divorcee that just finished my Master's. I went through a very painful divorce and poking fun at my problems is childish of you. When I asked you when your father planned on getting you married, I asked in all sincerity and for your own good. You just seem like you need to get married quickly.

The only reason I say that is that it might just help you get over these petty issues and stop obsessing so much about internet personalities. Just ask your mom to find you a wife, my friend.
