  • What is the history of the Lungee?

Does any one know the history of the afghan turban? me and my dad were talking and all of a sudden this came up as a topic. He then later tells me that the lungee is actually a tajik thing and a russian turban? like wtf? im pretty sure tajiks DON'T wear that. I also heard that attan came from somewhere around south india.

Honeslty i'm starting to thing that "Pashtuns" are a lie and their whole culture is an import of other peoples cultures. I don't if he was trolling but the lungee sure as hell doesn't belong to tajiks. Your thoughts?

Here is a supposed tajik turban. It really does look similar to the turbans pashtuns wear now

I also just found out that pakol is actually a chitrali hat. It's not originally part of pashtun culture.

I think turban is something diffused, we used it too(but shorter than You do), Indians use it too. Tajiks and Uzbeks and Turks used long turbans too. It is quiet old. However if i remember well on Persepolis the only ones to wear turbans(or at lest something similar) is a procession from what is now Afghanistan(i will later come up with pictures)

never mind after doing some research, it says that pashtun culture doesn't have any influence from outside cultures so the lungee is originally pashtun.

Brother, however clothes were created out of necessity, not out of National Diversity, its than the esthetics that change frome one people to other, so it is quiet common that neighbours had similar clothes, because in older times people weren't that out on racial theories and distinction one from the other...

i know in nuristan the highest quality pakols are imported from chitral made of pattu. Even Massoud was known to prefer the chitrali pakol.

from the ubiquity of patkai from north africa to asia, its originators are obscured in cultures and history. muslim punjabis and hindus, all wore 'pagri', the sikh have their dastar, the arabs, sudanese, the tuaregs, have their turbans.

i think its a question is which people have made the patkai prominent feature of their labas.
tajik turbans are tighter and less volumenous. pashtun wear more elaborately with different styles, some with amazing volume - like nadir khan katawazai's patkey.

In BD the male sarong we wear is called Lungee. It is stitched in the front unlike the Punjabi tamad / dhoti.
