          • I like it more than that Arabic "ninja" style one because whether you believe it or not, it was invented by Pashtuns. But I still discourage it.

            • Kakargirl,

I haven't figured out to post photos yet, but maybe Fahd can help you if you don't know how and wish to try.

Because! I can't picture what you mean.
But if you find a pic,
              then I will recognize immediately!

Do people at school sometimes ask you if you are a nun or what's called a novice, a nun in training?!

And the burkha is part of the Arab culture which is being shoved down our throats by Salafis and Shias alike in the name of Islam. Before the Arab invasions, no woman here wore anything as ghastly, disgusting, abhorrent and horrid as a burkha.

This is a Pashtun forum - go promote Arab culture on Al-Qaeda's website.
                  Questions:

When was this alleged "Arab Invasion"? what are the historical documentations of it, and how did it influence legislations of the burqa?

What was the prior condition of the burqa prior to this alleged Arab Invasion, it's commonality and popularity.

What was the public outwear adorned by both the elite and commonfolk throughout times prior and after this alleged invasion.

Why can we find evidence of burqa adornment prior to the 20th century?

                  • Burqa was NEVER as pakhtun thing. It was always a chaddar with due respect. The arabinization of the pakhtun society has introduced this menance and it will not be long before we Pakhtun men we start harnasing their mouths(just like the arabs do). Its a sad cultural aspect that has given way to the pseudo-Islamic practices that have more to do with tradition than religion. Indonesia is an Islamic country with more muslims there than any other; thank Allah there is not real influence of arabinization there and therefore the Burqa or the lagaam to the womens mouth do not exist, but then again we Pakhtuns believe there is no Islam past the Attock bridge or unless its the holy land of King Saud....

The traditionlists will wear the chaddar; the wannabees will wear the burqa. Its just fashion, first shuttle cock, then fashioni burqa, howadays its the hijaab. Women want an identity which our Pakhtu has taken away...

The issue is that since we have restricted them to our homes Pakhtun men have become more frustrated. In the rest of the world where women have true respect and can leave their homes without being visually raped there women are more successful in every aspect of life. Those who life ourside of Khyber-Pakhtunkwa and Saudi know it. Saudi is smart and realizing it now, and there is some encouragement for women to start working but since women rights are being discussed there, I guess now we can call them American puppets... damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Personally, I am against burqa and request my women folk to wear chaddar outside, I also educate them and as my father did, did not marry off either of his daughters till they each got a masters level education and could read and interprest the Holy Book so no mullah on the pulpit can fool them. Yes he might have broken some traditions by not marrying off his kids at very young age, like most of us traditionlists do but I saw a decent progression in that. And that is what my uncles in turn did and we the next generation will do... progression is happening one family at a time... even though we may be a mimority.....

                        • you guys living abraod and want to impose dresscode on women of Afghanistan
to afghan women Chadari and no its not called burqa is a normal thing.

to you offcourse it might look like this evil thing which is projected through the propaganda channels.

and no its not pashtun thing i think its more like farsiwaan thing, pashtun women mostly wear sadar and non pashtun women mostly wear that small zarukay.

but one thing is clear there is nothing wrong with chadari and its not arab culture and neither pashtun culture.

Instead of answering my questions you just basically repeated the Party-Line. I remember once finding books with pictures of old Kandahar where women were wearing burqas all over from the Early 20th century. I find it hard to really compare Afghan Burqa as an Arab custom as Arabs customarily do not wear Burqa, but Naqab. But I am interested in seeing how you arrived at your conclusions and what sort of educational background lead you to make these conclusions.

Whether you would like to hear it or not but your questions were answered. Wonder what party line you are talking about, mowlvi sahib.... don't issue fatwas with each passing of gass. Burqa is NOT a Pakhtun thing, it never was and never will be.

I would like you to show us those pictures (which btw your likes oppose). I am sure you can dig up those old pics for all of us to share...

I have answered your questions but as a challenge I would like to know how much YOU respect your women (forget respecting other women, we both know its in the extent of words only). Is your religion only to the extent that benefits you, like DENYING the other rights of respect towards women... like say inheritance... or their right to REFUSE a marriage, or their rights to a proper education, the same happiness that is brought about when you give birth of a son(still ashamed for a daughter right?).... I am sure that Islam you don't like but when it comes to issues like that you like to hide behind the burqa of tradition.... I am sure you respect your women soo much that you don't even let them touch a computer,in case they go "astray" and most of the women here on this forum live far from the ignorance of your "tradition/so-called religion(not Islam, but what the likes of you think is Islam)" of our mother-land... remember this is NOT a party line BUT a religious line I am stating..... what you call "ghairath" against dishonor for not following your rules of tradition is all forbidden in Islam... I just hope and pray your religion does not extend only to the burqa and you follow the rest too, however against it maybe towards your personal interests.....

All yours my friend, feel free to answer any of those objections any time...

its called chadari and not burqa whats withj people.
just cuz fox news called it burqa it became burqa?

its called chadari and was mostly worn by non pashtun women in afghanistan especially farsiwaan women but nowadays also worn by pashtuns and they wear it as a protection.
