                  @ Osho:

FINALLY!! A male voice that realizes the FACT that women are just as human as men are and are JUST as capable of making *their* own decisions as men are. Bless your mind, wrora!!

I completely agree. I find it sickening to hear men saying "I will (not) allow" or "I (don't) want my wife to ...." I mean, what if your wife is not okay with what you allow or don't allow her? What if she has her own mind and knows how to use it? What if what you "want/expect/command" her to do is not what she wants to do herself? I'm sure that a woman knows that when she's in an area where not covering her face will get her killed, then she'll cover her face.

So why, then, this mentality of "I know what's best for her"? Does she not know what's best for herself?

Also, women know what's best for their husbands, too. But who tells their husbands not to do this or that (in a commanding way, not in a loving way)?

Plus, if your reason is that "I love my wife/girlfriend/fiancee," then lemme remind you: Love her the way SHE wants you to love her. Meaning, what if the way you "love" her makes her miserable? What if she expects/wishes for you to love her differently?

Communicate, communicate, communicate. Communicate your wishes to her (long before you ever agree to marry her! just in case she doesn't want to cover her face/hair/arms/legs, for instance, and you think she must cover them). Communicate with her and listen to how she defines modesty. Just as you can justify your own views and expect her to understand them, let her speak for herself and justify her own views as well. You might learning something while intending to teach her something.

If she wants something that doesn't coincide your wishes or your understanding of something, there is often a way to compromise and come to a reasonable understanding -- reasonable in the opinions of you two. So, try doing that. If it doesn't work, and it's absolutely impossible to come to an understanding, then don't marry her... if you're allowed to say no, that is. If not, then learn to live with it.

Bottom line: Neither the man nor the woman has the right to impose his/her own views and concepts on his/her spouse. Both should speak FOR themselves and have themselves heard by their spouse.

Oh, and about the whole deal with "our women," I agree there as well, Osho. I agree only when a man sees his wife as his woman in a possessive way. When I, Qrratugai, say "our women," I mean Pukhtun women, or the women of our society. So in general terms like that, I think it's more a way to find connection with the women of our land. And when it's said in a loving tone, as in "my beloved woman" or "my woman and I both agree that ...," then I think that's okay as well. I mean, we women say all the time "my man" or "my guy," so it should be okay for men to say as well.

So it depends on the context it's used in, I'd say.

Great posts!! Thank you for joining us!! We need more men (and women, too, actually) like you! We could benefit from them a great deal.

P.S. Men are being eye-candies for us women, too, when they sing and talk in a really, really hot voice and show us their legs and chest and niiiiiiiiiiiiice muscles that make us women go CUH-RAY-ZEEEEEE!

Just thought I'd let you know that both are "eye-candies" for each other in a way

I love how the term "eye-candy" is used so much and so freely here, lol. Amusing. Don't put a woman on tv; she's being eye-candy for all the men who see her :o Even if she's teaching lessons in a language or something else equally or more important.

Don't let a woman work; she must be serving as an eye-candy for SOMEONE out there, SOMEONE - who cares who that "someone" is; someone's enjoying seeing and talking to her, even if what she's saying to the "someone" is something very important and intellectual.

Gosh. Come on, guys, we can do better than that.

This is the main problem when men know more than a woman and when men are more out going while women remain prisoners in the four walls of their houses. The solution is not shuttle cock burka or hijab but the real solution is that women may also know like men and may also go out so that they can decide for themselves and may not only obey their male masters but have their own first hand knowledge and experience.

we can't have our wives become public property.

                          it's unacceptable.
Another important issue regarding Pashtun women problems and Hijab is that Pashtun consider woman as their main focus of NANG or honor. This is not somethinmg good for Pashtun woman to make her as symbol of honour. This is a disservice and a hindrance in the way of the development of Pashtun woman. She is as Pashtun as a Pashtun man.

Why we keep her as the main basis of our honor ? I cant understand. Dont make her your honour and dont try to protect her honor. Enable her that she may guard her own honor herself and may not depend on men for their honor.

By not wearing Burka or Hijab Pashtun women will not become public property. Women without Burka or Hijab in the West are more protected and self reliant than Pashtun women with all their Hijabs and Burkas. Wearing Burkas make pashtun women property of their men as they use them as they wish and Pashtun women have to obey their male masters in their burkas and imprisoned in the four walls of their houses. Pashtun women are even sold in so called marriages. Who is public proiperty ,,a Pashtun woman in her Hijab or a western woman without Hijab?

Instead of women why Pashtun men dont defend their honor in issues like

                          1. Pashtuns and terrorism, religious extremism, obscurantism, the role of Mulla in Pakhtun society
                          2. Pashtuns and the worst violation of human rights specially women rights, girls education, traditions like SWARA,
                          3. Pashtuns and smuggling of drugs and other contraband items
                          4. Pashtuns and illiteracy and ignorance
                          5. Pakstuns and their usual stubbornness, adamancy, non flexibility, and short temper
                          6. Pakhtuns and their hunger for money, bribes,
                          7. Pashtuns and their no attention, carelessness for their language, culture , literature, writing and reading of Pashto.
                          9. Pashtuns and their no sense of one nation, or one people
                          10. Pashtun internal wars, loyalty to tribes and families instead of Pashtunwali

                          Comment

                          • We should not discourage those honourable pashtun women who happily wear shuttlecock burqa with their full consent. beside our pashtun society has not yet progressed to the level of the west, where women are free to wear dress of their choice. So burqa is a protection in male-dominated society of hungry wolves.
At instance Feminists r trying to get rid the women of burqa, what will b their next move, to get rid women of clothes?
