No they do not. Go to any shopkeeper or taxi driver in Peshawar and tell them a number in pashto and they will look at you dumbfounded. If they do understand, they are most likely Afghan.

I have cousins that grew up in Peshawar and they don't know how to count in Pashto. Some of my cousins recently learnt how to count in Pashto after visiting Kabul. They were forced to.

yea man, in peshawar region we use alot of hindi/english loanwords even though we know the pashto equivalent. i think it has to do with trying to sound fancy or educated since we are just a product of our environment at the end of the day

            Greetings,
I am a student of the Pashto language based in the UK. I am very greatful to have been accepted as a member of this wonderful forum - a great help for my study. Please would readers comment on my language usage above. Any corrections, tips or just general observations would be much appreciated. I apologize for typing in a Latin script in future I will make an effort to type in Pashto script. Please note I habitually use the Quetta accent, specifically the urban variety but try my best to incorporate elements of other dialects for a more wider reach. Thank you.
            Kind regards,
            A
Dear readers I apologize - I made two mistakes in my Pashto without realizing:

            1) After reading some of your comments I realized that I said my age was "tsalwesht" (40) however I meant to say "tsalorwesht" (24) ! This is probably because of my not checking the post properly for errors.

            2) The second stupid mistake I made was using "mashartob" (leadership) instead of "mashumtob" (childhood) ! again stupid and embarrassing :/

Your Pashto seems perfectly fine even though I do not know the Quetta dialect that well and someone from that area would be able to give you a better input.
                  Thank you very much.

You can't generalize. Some individuals make more effort to learn and speak better Pashto.

Wrora za ham pa Islamabad ke loy shaway yama... it depends on the individual but in Islamabad or other cities outside KPK or Balochistan where Pashto is the main language, is it harder to actually study it.

Not just Peshawar, all over Pakistan. Even in Quetta.

In Pakistan we use Urdu and English words and in Afghanistan they mix in Farsi words.

Your idea that Pashtuns in Pakistan do not know how to count in Pashto , is completely wrong. As Traveller said , that even though Urdu numbers are used quite often but people do know the Pashto equivalent as well.
Just because your cousins were unable to do so , does not in any way prove that everyone else is like that too.

Even though I don't use them that often , but I can count in Pashto .

In Peshawar , there do live people who are non-Pashtuns but have picked up the Pashto language. So if such a person doesn't know how to count in Pashto , don't be surprised.
Also if I'm not wrong , you are either from Khost or Paktia. It might be that in your dialect the numbers sound different from that of the Peshawar region.

dialect does not really make that much of a difference in numbers. Besides you guys ran away when asked the question.
