.. physically they are more of a Mediterranean Caucasian people.

..the Greek historian Herodotus mentioned a people called Pactyans living in the same area..The Arians carried Median bows, but in other respects were equipped like the Bactrians. Their commander
was Sisamnes the son of Hydarnes..The Pactyans wore cloaks of skin, and carried the bow of their country and the dagger. Their commander was Artyntes, the son of Ithamatres..The Utians, the Mycians, and the Paricanians were all equipped like the Pactyans. They had for leaders, Arsamenes, the son of Darius, who commanded the Utians and Mycians; and Siromitres, the son of Oeobazus, who commanded the Paricanians.

Well you have an inferiority complex with white people, dude

Why do you want to be like them?
      Pashtuns aren't white !
Pashtuns are iranic people, just like persians, baloch, tajiks, kurds....
And i have seen very dark talibs ( they were very brown ) so in average, in a city like peshawar for example, people are brown !

Don't try to be a white ! You are not.

kaish, Gandahara is the region around peshawar, jalalabad area. The area around kandahar and helmand was known as Arachosia. Although there was Gandaharan influence in Arachosia and vice versa especially in the time of Kushans. Look at this map, you can clearly see Gandahara is not Kandahar.

Panini the the great Sanskrit linguist was from the peshawar (pushaputra) which was the capital of Gandaharan culture.

There is no such thing as white race. White doesn't even make sense, since the so called whites themselves are different each other. Italians and portuguese look different from Germans and Scots. Many chinese are whiter in complexion than Italians but it doesn't make them white or european. White is simply a term to designate europeans. Caucasians are people of similar bone structure and facial features which north indians and pashtuns are also part of as are europeans.

The DNA tests posted in this forum showed that pashtuns had upto 20% south indian admixture. That could explain the variety in colour in pashtuns. Majority of pashtuns I would say are light brown and indians dark brown.
Pashtuns tan very easily especially those working outside all the time such as farmers. I think Iranians are whiter than pashtuns but they look more semitic while pashtuns and tajiks look more reddish brown.

I don't know what is it with Indians and colour complex, maybe a result of colonialism?

Picking just one photo or one person doesn't really explain the whole story.
Indeed pashtuns can be darker than tamils in some cases. The whole region is mixed and there is no pure race or people.

DNA tests have shown pashtun having 10% nordic (north european) and about 10 (greek, macedonian) admixture. But that was just one study on pashtuns of peshawar.

Pashtuns don't consider themselves white nor like being white as in european colour. Being white is subjective anyways. For Indians Aishwarya is white but for Europeans she is dark. For pashtuns usually we prefer "Ghanam rang", which means wheat colour. You need to get over this whole white dark thing.

I know that, Kandahar name is rooted from Ghandara. It was a Ghandari, who founded the city. I didn't get this from Internet or anything. I took a history of south Asia class in a University before, with a Ph. d in South Asian studies professor. I believe his words as I have met him, than I dodgy Internet website.

I don't know what you think you, or other Indians look like, but they do not look like these people generally. The skin color isnt so relevant but that pic could be a tan or other. If you think Indians are lighter skinned than Afghans you've been watching too much bolly drama.

I have never heard of a Ghandari founding the city of kandahar. All I know is Alexsander the great ordered a city to be built in Arachosia by his name. Alexander founded many cities by his name such as Alexandria in Egypt. Its not just one dodgy internet website as you put it. There are several books and other references which say the same thing.

pashtuns pronounce it as kandar, not kandahar. and Alexander is known is sekandar in pashto. se-kandar, could very well have become kandar later on. anyways its not a concrete fact but its a better theory in my opinion than Gandaran because all ancient accounts mention Gandara as being the peshawar valley and surrounding areas. Kandahar is a long long way from peshawar.

lol The guys in his pic are not even pasthuns. This is Taloqan in northern Afghanistan which is mixture of mostly tajiks and uzbeks with very few pashtuns.

                            Badmash,

It's definitely a dodgy Internet information, made by estimated guesses. Like I said, what are the credentials of those authors who are making those guesses? I don't think they are P. hD's.

Mr Alex made his way into modern day Afghanistan, by way of Bactria in the North. He had a tough time in controlling the people, Alex lost more men and assets in Afghanistan than other places he "conquered." naming a place into Greek name, and having the people call it by that, are beaten and conquered people. Afghans weren't beaten and conquered.

kaish, I can't be bothered to argue that its not dodgy internet information. There are several books where its mentioned that Alexander founded kanahar. Those books aren't written by any Tom,D!ck and harry. These authors are also professors at universities. Anyways. I will look up your professor's claim and you can look up what i said.

jalalabad was also founded by Mughal emperor, jalaluddin muhammad akbar. its common

i think it might come from alexandropolis. The cities in the area were renamed.
