Dear PF members, dear friends!
Some times here we came back on the discussion of the origin of the word Afghan and somebody told me it may be connected to Armenian Aghvan(meaning
Alpanian(it was once a state on Caucasus called Alpania, some Alpans do exist till ow(Lezgi, Tabasarani, Kryz, Rutul, Agul, Tsahur, Udi...).
However I would avoid to make any claims if this theory may be right or not!
But , I would like to discuss another issue.
One of my friends is a famous Lezgian writer and philologist.
Already over 20 years he studies his peoples history and language - he has been even to the places where ancient Alpania was bordering with Armenia and found that the Armenian dialects of that region have a lot of Alpanian words and that the tales of that region are quiet similar to their tales.
What does it have to do with Pashtuns?
Nothing!
But!
He told me one interesting fact.
He told that during Arab conquers of nowdays Afghanistan and later during Mongolian conquers many Alpans were setteled on the territory close to Kandahar.
He told that only the last wave of resettlement included 30.000 families that have been deprived from their homelands and brought to Kandahar.
May anybody have an idea what happened to those Alpans? Do You have in Your historical memory any recordings of such facts?
I would really be interested to hear Your opinion!
Best greetings to everybody!
