  • Gedrosia component is 100% west eurasian ? How can say " 75% west eurasian " ?

    Comment

    • Gedorosia seems to be 90% west eurasian, it might be around 10% local south asian. I am not 100% sure about, will have to do more research

also I didn't inlude the other small amounts, you can just check the spread sheet

      • Gedrosia is 100% West Eurasian component. See fst distance table and statements of dienekes. Gedrosia component is probably from Northeastern Caucasus and has a small amount of paleolithic Central Asian input (16%) which also ultimately originated in West Asia. Gedrosia was brought to Central Asia with Indo Europeans at first step and at second step with Baluch people which moved from West Asia into Balutchistan/Pakistan. Thats why its so huge among Balutch and people who are mixed with Balutch (like Brahui and Pashtun).

        • ^ Gedrosia is west eurasian but I doubt indo europeans have much to do with it, indo europeans themselves did not even come to south asia, it was the indo aryan(aryans) that did.

^ and even indo aryans probably make a small part of Gedrosia, simply because if you look at the spreadsheet I linked, even south indians (tamils) have a very high amount of Gedrosia compnent, this doesn;t make sense with what you are saying because (south indians) are suppose to be dravdian speakers and their mixing with indo aryans should have been minimal.

My guess is Gedrosia is a very old component, may be even over 10000 years old, it may represent the first west eurasian migrations towards south asia

These samples were collected from Peshawar: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...ldWxwVmc#gid=0

I will post the highest numbers in pashtuns

            Northern European: 13.3%
            South Asian: 22.9%
            Caucasus: 13.9%
            Gedrosia(Balochistan) 42%

^ btw the Gedrosia component is also of west Eurasian origin but it is a very old component that came very long ago, thats why it is known as the Baluchistan component

SO basically over all these 22 samples from Peshawar show that pashtuns are good 70% west eurasian, with the rest being mostly south asian
I find this sampling misleading as most Pashtuns from Peshawar are mixed with other indic groups such as panjabis and sindhs. The sampling would have been better if it had been done in a tribal area where less mixing would have occurred.

            • ^ this may be true, but to be honest I think every one in the region is mixed with indics to some degree, since indics were the earliest populations in the area. A good example would be Bursho people of Hunza. Looks wise they are one the most (european) looking people in the region, however as you can see in the spread sheet, they are 23% south asian, slightly even more than (Peshawar) pashtuns.

^ so this really tells us that Looks are often misleading

But over all yes I think the best proxy for pashtuns would be the tribals. Unless they already tested the pashtuns of tribal back ground in Peshawar, I am not sure

what is meant by indics? are indics one people then what about aryan invasion theory and why are north and south indians different in terms of language and physical features?

                Comment

                • ^ by indics i mean the original south asians who lived in south asia before any sort of invasions or migrations that took place from west eurasia/ west asia, this includes the famous indo aryan invasion / migration.

Todays south asians are a mix of those original south asians and the people who came from west eurasia and west asia over the last 10000 years.

The reason northern south asians look different from south indians is simply because northern south asians are more mixed with west eurasians/ west asians than the people of south india. so over all south indians like Tamils are actually more closer to the original south asians who once lived all over south asia

so speakers of Dravidian languages are closer to original indians? makes sense.
I read once that indus valley was the home to dravidians. intresting....

                    Comment

                    • ^ this is where it gets tricky, genetically yes present day tamils and other south indians are much more closer to the original south asians. however the original Dravdian people themselves were actually probably a west asian people also, who lived in present day southern Iran

I think the Dravidian were one of the first people who came to south asia from west asia, and yes most likely indus civilization may have been related to them, though there are many different theories about them

the south asian (dna) you actually see in people is actually even older than Dravidians, since Dravidian themselves came from west asia and were not natives to south asia. The original Dravidians also probably didn't look like present day Tamils, they probably looked like more closer to Iranians

Thing is, samples from Peshawar will differ from samples in Swat or Waziristan, for instance Peshawar is and has been mixed with many peoples over the ages - therfore these samples cannot be held as an average on Pashtuns.

Indo-Aryans are a branch of Indo Europeans.

Mixing has become nothing unusual in South Asia. Though South Indians have also Gedrosia, they have considerable less of it than North Indians.

possible but take in account that such components are just "models" to show people the relationship between populations. some Irish populations have around 9,5% Gedrosia. I am sure to some extend this component was also introduced by Indo-Aryans. The relationship between Gedrosia and Caucasus is similar to that between West and East European of former v3 admixture. Thats also the reason why Dienekes often puts them simply together. Gedrosia is an component with ultimate origin in East/Southeast Caucasus and was introduced into South-Central Asia by the original Balochi people who came from Northwest Iran and later mixed with African and South Asians there, while "Caucasus" has its origin in Northwest Caucasus.

True but you have to take in account the other admixtures. While the Brahui and Baloch have most of the Gedrosia component, yet they also have less Caucasus, Northeuropean and significant more Southwest Asian and even African(!) admixture.

Pathans might have 10% more South Asian yet they also have 2% less African and 18% more Caucasus and North European than Balochis. The Balochis are related with Kurds but mixed to some extend with natives of that area. still Balochis are one of the most West Eurasian groups in South-Central Asia even if the Pashtuns are a bit more.

The big picture is always important. If the Balochis were entirely Gedrosia without significant other influences they would have looked more West Asian, yet they have other significant influences.

Good point. The original Dravidians were West Eurasian genetically and were one of the first waves into South Asia. Later when the Indo-Aryans moved in. They pushed some of the original Caucasian Dravidians further South were these Dravidians mixed with aboriginal Weddoid people and became what they are today. Than this new mixed Dravidians also mixed with the new arrived Indo-Aryans and the North Indians we know them today were born.

                              In short.

North Indians = Indo-Aryan + original Dravidian + Weddoid aboriginal Indians = ~65% West Eurasian

South Indians = original Dravidian + Weddoid aboriginal Indians = ~40% West Eurasian

I highly doubt that, as the Irish and Welsh where Celtiberians and the Irish are one of the most homogeneous peoples in Europe. Celtic culture is very Indo-European indeed and Druid in Sanskrit means one 'immersed in knowledge.' Celtic Druidism had close ties to both Middle Eastern and Indic religions.
