It would be useful if you do decide to pay for a genealogy test to have your mtDNA tested rather than yDNA.

If you do get it done it's much cheaper in the US or Canada than the UK and I suppose you could just swab a cotten bud inside you mouth pop it in a plastic bag and post it off to them and they will email you the results.

why the mtDNA test rather than yDNA test. We are classed as pukhtuns depending on whether our father is a pukhtun. Anyway yes i will be getting it done when i have some time. i'll be selecting the premium package that checks both the mtDNA and the yDNA. i feels its important to check both sides, as we all know it is a scientific fact that we get our genes from both parents not just the father.

      thanks

Yes the mtDNA is important and much can be gathered from it. Tajiks mtDNA gene pool has nearly equal proportions of eastern Eurasian and western Eurasian haplotypes. Whilst the yDNA is predominantly western Eurasian. So maybe Pashtuns are similar to Tajiks.

never heard such a thing. I have never met an Assyrian looking like Greeks and just some Armenians who could. Assyrians look Arab an are from South- Central Iraq some mixed with Armenians but genetically they are Southern Iraqis and Kurds from North. this is how Assyrians look like.

I am Pashtun and my Y-DNA is R1a1a, I haven't tested my SNP's yet. I've always wondered why many Pashtuns have blue, gray, green eyes, and blond and red hair? Is this due to our ancient roots from Eurasia? My grandfather had gray eyes, which made me ask this question.

^ yes Pashtuns including other people like dardic people came from the Caucasus regions at some point probably 3000 years ago, but pashtuns also do have local south asian dna as well

Pashtuns and other northern south asian/central asian populations like dards, Hunza etc.. have 80-85% west eurasian dna, but they also have 15-20% ASI, which is native (south indian) dna, ASI were the first inhabitants of the south asia region.

Same way a south indian (Tamil) guy for example would be 70-80% ASI (south indian) and only 20-30% west eurasian.

So most likely when they came over the place was already populated by people, and I am assuming they intermingled with them.

Yes it was most likely populated by the people who had high (ASI) south indian in them, then Pashtuns and other must have intermingled

Some people even say that indus valley civilization might be a dravdian civilization, if so, they probably had high (ASI) south indian in them. It is possible that Pashtuns were part of the aryan migrations to the region that occured some 3000 years ago, though that is yet to be determined who exactly indo aryans were

BTW - Do you have a place where I can go reference the Automosal results?

I've also noticed that Punjabi's also have a high percentage of Hg R1a1, so they probably share the same ancestry as the Pashtun R1a1. With this, I am assuming that the Punjabi's and Pashtun's share a similar ancestry, however what point in time did both cultures evolve into two separate groups and language?

I am not sure but there is a project called Harappa ancestory project where you might be able to

Harrapa project basically compares all the component you may have, there is currently only one pashtun guy there and he is only half pashtun, other half being english

yes south asian, especially northern south asians generally share the same Ydna ancestory as pashtuns, but pashtuns mtdna is defiantly more west eurasian then a punjabi or sindhi guy for example, that's why over all pashtun west eurasian dna is 80-85%, while a punjabi or sindhi guy would be generally be between 60-75% west eurasian depending on the caste. Jats usually show the highest in Punjab around 75% west eurasian.

Pashtuns and Dardic people also show higher northern european in them compared to south asians from the plains

Now Karachi, may I ask you one thing, since you have seen the results of genetic tests of many Pashtuns, is there any indication that the Pashtun people are related to Ancient Semitic peoples of present day Palestine/Israel?

Having Western Euroasian genes would contradict claims of Pashtuns being Jews/Arabs?
