I think there should be better resources out there on Kakar's rather than having to rely on what someone on wikipedia has posted. Or oh well- we are who we are. I'm still following my theory on Islam not being in that region prior to those tribes picking out names. Or even that people traveled and took different names and followed different religions. Just because you're a pashtun or a Kakar does not mean you have to follow one religion."Do not lose hope in adversity and complain that God singled you out for punishment, remitting others guilty of worse sins. Your present state could very well be His intent to elevate your spiritual station. Or He could just be testing your faith. Everyday that you persevere, you grow closer to perfection. Thus, your present despair may be the beginning of an infinite blessing". - Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani.

Pashtun Kakars of Afghanistan/Northern Pakistan are Muslims
Whether Kakars are originally Muslim or not is irrelevant; the current Pashtun Kakars are entirely Muslim, even if nomially and/or being swayed by other belief systems. Any Muslim Kakar who decides to abandon Islam for another belief system would be an extremely recent event.
There are no hereditary Hindus amongst the Pashtun Kakars at the current time.
There are no ethnic Pashtuns who are currently Hindu amongst the Pashtuns either. The does however exist Pashto-speaking Hindus in Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan; this however is not the same as ethnic Pashtun Hindus.
The current Hindu population in Afghanistan are not natives to Afghanistan, but imported migrants that came during the time of Mughal Rule and later on with successive rulers/regimes as laborers and merchants. The evidence that they're not native is the fact that Pashto-Speaking Hindus are by and large fluent in Siraiki; which is a Punjabi dialect which originates in Multan, Punjab and became developed as a language within the last 500 years.
While it might be argued that Pashtuns in Pre-Islamic times were Hindu/Buddhist or some other sort of South Asian belief system. The evidence supporting this is circumstantial at best. There are other evidences which indicate that Pashtuns being a ethnographically defined "Iranian Peoples" that they were possibly a Zoroastrian sect and/or followed a fusion of Zoroastrianism and Gnosticism known as Manicheanism. Current archeological reports suggest that Pashtuns did not always inhabit the Arghandab Valley of Kandahar but migrated there in mass somewhat later on in history.
The existence of the word "Kakar" amongst the Hindus is purely coincidence; as the word Kakar also exists amongst the Kurds, Jews, Arabs and Assyrians/Chaldeans. Furthermore as someone stated the word that derived from Sanskrit is "Kak-Kar" not "Ka-Kar". I'm not sure but I believe "Kakar" in Pashto relates to a young child, sort of like "Kakay" in some dialects. Kak-Kar amongst the Hindus refers to pluralization of the letter K.

lol your a journalist and yet you cant read plain english lol sorry what i said was that kakar was alive only a thousand years ago but he was muslim yet there are history books that say kakar history is 2000 years old so this means there were other kakars who were not muslims kakar is just a name nothing else .Originally posted by JasmineWhat you are saying does not make sense.
You said Kakar history goes back 2,000 years. Islam is only 1400 years old. How were Kakars Muslim? If Islam did not even exist at that time?

thank you unknownprince you are intelligentOriginally posted by unknownprinceJasmine,
95% of all Pashtuns are Muslims. As for the Hindu or Sikh Pashtuns, well they have all left, and since they have adopted other ways of life and customs, they are no longer Pashtun.
An atheist can not be a Pashtun for your information since being an atheist violates Pashtunwali. A born Muslim obviously can abandon Islam, and become either an atheist or Christian or whatever. Those people break then break away from the Pashtunwali most likely.
Now I am not saying the above. It is not my opinion, it is a matter of fact.
As for the history of the Kakars, it most likely follows the same pattern as the history of other pashtun tribes.

I think Kakar girl is generally right in this regard and knows her kabaa'eel lineages. Simply having the last name does not gaurantee that one of these hindus is actually a Kakar tribal descendent. Think of the various folks in India that utilize the last name Lodhi or Durrani and actually admit that their surnames come from serving the military regiments that the Afghan invaders sent there. Think also of the fact that the word "malik" comes from arabic, but there are thousands of hindus with the surname malik.
Also, some of the tribal names repeat within subgroups. For example, there are Barakzai Durranis/Abdalis, and Barakzai Kakars, and even Barakzais in the NWFP region.
I think little if no textual evidence exists to support any lineage of the sons of Dani leaving Islam. If someone incidentally leaves Islam later on, that doesnt provide evidence that the original tribal ancestors or maliks were non muslim and that the lineage continued.
The other clue is where tribal lands are for each group. For example, we have lands near Sher e surkh that the Popalzai gave us and you can actually trace back descendents and cousins etc. according to whose land is next to yours. The Wazirs and Mehsuds have a similar system. This is one reason why pashtoons love to say Zar, Zamin, Zan and never want to sell their land unless absolutely necessary. It provides a link to the rest of the tribe. If any of the Kakar elders had a hindu or nonmuslim their child, we would have seen this show up in the way that their tribal lands around Kandahar are arranged. After all, no rural Pashtoon will ever leave inheritence to a child if they willingly leave Islam, per the injunctions in the Quran. That doesnt mean that someone cannot take the land by force, but in general I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a strip of land owned by any Kakar hindu that allowed us to link him to other Kakars based on his nassl (line of ascent)."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

sorry by the way you are talking you does not seem to be a muslim, why because you are saying that "pashtuns were forced into islam" a very offending remark on islam, no one forced anyone for islam on anybody, since it was a religion of truth peoples and ccommunities followed, if by chance Islam were to be forced than from france to burma(myanmar) there would have been not even a non muslim(kafir) in India the muslims ruled but never forced the people to become muslim if the muslim rulers have given 5% interest to make the people muslim then India would have been a muslim country, they were mostly interested in ruling not interested with indian race,Originally posted by Aseer JaanKakargirl,
There are Kakars in Kandahar as we speak who are Pashtuns and Hindu. have you ever visited Shaidaan Chowk or Herat Darwaza in Kandahar? visit them or visit the Hindu temple in Kandahar. You will find many Kakar hindus. Pashtuns were forced into Islam. We did not accept Islam because we studied it. I am a proud Muslim but to say we were Muslims from day 1 is wrong. Our Pashtun culture is older than the Quran itself.
during islamic invasion of iran when the people were interested to embrace islam, those muslims rulers who were just interested in jaziya tax does not wanted people to become muslims but rather were interested to collect jaziya tax from them.
I don't know how many jat/khatri hindus with kakkar family name are there in afghanistan or pakistan, but they are not pashtun kakars, don't impose jat/khatri hindus on pashtun kakars, please dont force them to accept.
"Our Pashtun culture is older than the Quran itself" this reflects point of yours which again condemns Islam, and now directly attacking the quran which is our holy book. first understand pashtun are a race community which we are proud of next Islam is our religion which is more important then being a pashtun or not and quran is our holy book which you cannot find its contemporary in this whole universe, our culture was based on what religion before islam is different, because we pashtun were good people so thats we accepted Islam which was a truth no one can find in this world nor till the end of this world. Please dont confuse us say proudly yourself that you are a non-muslim or an uneducated illitrate muslim

Why confused
see before Islam came the tribe kakar was pashtun and there religion was based on pashtunwali and not on hindu customs, when Islam came kakar and other pashtuns tribes became muslims because pashtunwali concept nears the concepts which are defined in Islam, so they became muslims, there were some turks who were ruling as hindushahis during islamic period about 7th or 8th century AD and they never became muslims and pashtuns drove them from peshawer region and occupied it fully so they know the plus/minus points of pashtuns and since pashtuns were known as great and wise people they wants to use their surnames to impress the foreigners that they are also from pashtuns, so their worst deeds can be hidden in the veil by posing as pashtuns, if there are kakar pashtun hindus then they should be following pashtunwali and their lineage should take them atleast to any tribe atleast 200 years back, here also they may confuse us. so dont get bother there are people who wants an image which should give them a new lifeOriginally posted by kakargirl View Posti know my history aseer jaan im not confused about my history as my family has the shijjrah which goes back a thousand years so i know who i am but people on here are confused who are they where do they come from kakar had 18sons and 6 adopted ones each tribe comes from one of his son i know where my tribe goes back but kakar was a muslim and edris said the kakar history goes back over 2000 years and hes right so this kakar was only alive a thousand years ago was there more kakar named pashtuns in the area at the time is what we are asking now and i do know there are hindu pashtuns and sikh pashtuns i know all that iv seen there women when i was in kandahar when i was 15

Who are you to make someone non pashtun cause he is not a Muslim?
We have been muslim for the past 143X years only what about before that? any idea? and Pashtunwali is pre islamic so being in another religion clearly doesnt violates these ancient codes.
Please everyone should accept that a pashtun can be muslim or whatever other religion.
