I just wanted to know why we walk down the aisle, with the Quran carried over the married couples head. Since its a custom i personally do not like, since i simply think its improper towards the Quran, i just wanted to see what others thought of it.

Even if its a very Islamic wedding, with all Islamic values incorporated and respected, i still do not think it is right. I know its a thought of protection, but should it really be carried on top of the head. It does not mean that the Quran should not be present this or that, because still the Nikkah will be taking place that is given the circumstances, that is not my point.

If there is a an Islamic significance, to carry over ones head for protection, what are the sources?

If its solely based on Afghan culture, i get it then. Still i am not going to do it.

I just wanted to see if someone else thought the same as me regarding this custom, whether its an Islamic valued wedding, or just a party party wedding. Thats all. I guess the poll speaks for itself

It is simply a matter of custom.
Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

[61:8] They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with the breath of their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers hate it.

[61:9] He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, even if those who associate partners with God hate it.

        Yeah from what i know.

At my one of my cousins wedding, the bride and the groom (my cousin) was walking down the aisle. And the brides sister was holding the Quran. And instead of carrying it over the head, she carried it right behind the bride pointed low.

I remember, my family was pissed off. My uncle was furious

          Laila Khore,

did you know that it is forbidden to sit in front of the Quran, when it is being used? Therefore, walking in front of it has the same value, for it is being used for a purpose.

That is why is has been more than 11 years that I have not been to an Afghan wedding. I used to feel heart broken because of all the garbage that I used to see every time.

^ So does it not make sense to wait till the bride and groom reach the stage, sit down, then do what they normally do with the Quran (read a verse from a Surah, or whatever is said to be done).

Yeah, in some Afghan weddings i regret going to. There was one, the arous's mother is hijab posh. But she was wearing those suit skirts, up to her knees, with tights......with a damn hijab on! uffffff

First of all, men and women should be separated. This means that the bride and groom don't walk in together.
The groom is on the men's side and the bride on the women's side.
When the precession is about to start, you ask everyone to be silent, then the Quran is recite. A du'a is made, and then food should be served.

At some point during the wedding the groom can, if they find it appropriate, to visit his bride in the women's section. There, if they wish, they could probably exchange rings and cut the cake there.

A real Islamic wedding is no more than 2-3 hours.
