Dawezai jana! it qualifies a Punjabi Sikh, living with you for being a Pakhtun. How do you look at a Hindki living in Pakhtunkhwa, speaking Pashto. Do you really ignore Lineage?

Dear Ijaz Yousafzai saib, if a person speaks Pashto, follows Pashtunwali and shares the same political, economic, social and cultural interests with Pashtuns, how will he/she remain a Punjabi or a Sikh then? The religious connotations are totally out of context anyway. The person who has to qualify as a Pashtun has to posses all the attributes that I have mentioned. Merely speaking Pashto or having a -zai suffix or even having Pashtun origin (may bhi Pathan hoon; man Pashtun asthum) (who checks on blood anyway!) should not be enough to make a person Pashtun.

We, for all practical purposes, need to discourage those "Pashtuns" who are not bothered by losing their language and culture and can still confidently claim that they are Pashtuns just because of their origin.

          Pashtunwali key islam um dy.
          1. Isteqamat - Trust in God (known as "Allah" in Arabic and "Khudai" in Pashto). The notion of trusting in the one creator generally comports to Islamic idea of belief in only one god (tawheed).

I agree with the attributes you mentioned for qualifying to be Pashtun, however we should not ignore the basic ingredient of the Lineage.Pashtun is an emytological term and not merely a socialized or politicized term.Pakhtun remains Pakhtun irrespective of his geography, political belief and economic environ. Even a Pakhtun(ethnic), remains Pakhtun in solitude on a lost island, CAST AWAY.

Pashtuns are a multiracial people. Although, I agree that lineage is an important ingredient of ethnicity but by defining Pashtun in somewhat narrow etymological context we are, in a way, outcasting a number of [practicing] Pashtuns that are not Pashtuns by origin and accepting those as Pashtuns who have lost all connections with their people. To accept lineage as the only requirement for a person to be Pashtun Pir Rokhan Baba, Ikramullah Graan and Mia Iftikhar would cease to be Pashtuns while Shah Rukh Khan, General Ayub Khan and King Zahir Shah will be perfect Pashtuns.

The etymological interpretation of the term Pashtun may be important for those who have lost their Pashtun-being and cultural, social, political, and economic connections with Pashtuns however, I believe the connotations of ethnicity are more social than etymological.

Pashtun is Pashtun. Pashtun are part of the reconised Pashtun tribes.

You can not accept others with using Pashto/Pashtunwali as an excuse to hide the fact that Pashtun are a well established ethinic group.

If your part of a pashtun tribe then you are a Pashtun, if you one of those who just woke up one morning and said to yourself ohh iam a pashtun some 40 generations ago and dont know the tribe then your not a pashtun.

                Kind Regards

Malgariya, Dawezai lala provided the perfect definition of Pashtuns. All those people who have common interests with Pashtuns, such as Hindkowans and Kohistanis are all Pashtuns.

Pukhtoons are divided into two categories.

Qalang (domesticated): Those who live in urban centers, and are not necessarily part of any tribes.

Nang (sovereign): Those who live in the qabael belt. They form the tribal federation.

                          Dont dilute our people.

                          Its as simple as that.

Wrayan, Dont divide Pashtun on location. All Pashtuns are same wheather they are in Settled areas or Tribal areas.

The only difference in Tribal areas from Settled areas, is that in the tribal areas they are ruled by FCR and No rights to political freedom nor vote whole the settled areas are ruled by the laws of Pakistan.

This makes absolutely no difference upon Pashtuns.

                          Kind Regards

Dont make the same mistake as Afghans do by saying Tajiks and Hazaras are also Afghans but then tell us Afghans equal Pashtuns.

Ok this is a very interesting conversation. As far down from all my forefathers, the fathers that came before my father. This story was related. We Pashtuns (from all tribes) were originally from the 10 lost tribes of Israel (the Jewish tribes that had to flee Israel due to persecution). My grandfather relayed this story to my father. My grandfathers father relayed this story to him, and so on and so on. I think you get the point.

There is another story that has been relayed to my father through his forefathers. Two brothers, Amrid and Afrid left Afghanistan a LONG time ago, and sailed the world. Amrid discovered America, and Afrid discovered Africa. Hence, the names given to the two continents (Amrika and Afrika). You will not find stuff about this on the internet, but Im sure your fathers have told you this. If not, then I assume their forefathers were embarrassed to mention that we are the original Jews. This is something to be very proud of because now I can say THAT I DID not evolve from APES for certain lol.

One thing is certain, we do not originate from Iran (meaning we are not Aryans). Research is being done on the 10 lost tribes theory, and so far there is a lot of evidence supporting it. Yousafzai means sons of Yousaf. afridi, sons of ephraim.

                                check this out

We have a legitimate claim to palestine. if we become more aware of this, this changes a lot of things israelis, they wont like this !!!
