this has nothing to do with americans.. just because of the incident that occurred in panjwai doesn't mean we ignore the **** that has been happening in the rest of the country all these years. awareness towards a good cause in a society is something one should always encourage regardless of who it comes from. just because you don't like soldat doesn't mean you discard his attempt at doing something positive for afghans. no one said that every afghan woman hates her husband or is being abused by him but the majority are being mistreated with no where to go because the society as well as their families do look down at them if they choose to walk away from the abuse.
if the rest of you don't think that is true then stay in your lala land and let the rest of us take care of the faults we see in our society.

                          @Wawrina, firstly, please type properly.

Secondly, fine, there's a war in Afghanistan and NATO is a cruel occupier. What about the Pashtanay in FATA and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa? Their husbands and fathers are alive. Why are they worse off than Sub-Sahran African women in most cases?

Instead of progressing like the rest of the world, Afghan society has regressed into the dark ages in the last four decades. While Saudi Arabia is building technology-cities and universities with co-education, while Punjab is sending its daughters to the West to become business professionals and scientists, our "traditional" people are telling us to shut our women indoors.

Soldat is correct when he says that women are treated as commodities by many Pashtuns. Most are barely educated (even while the brothers attend school) and then they're married off at the ages of 14 and 15. That makes 50% of Pashtun society disabled, paralyzed and dependent on the other 50% for their rest of their lives. This also makes women open to abuse because a woman who cannot support herself financially will tolerate anything her husband and in-laws do to her because if she runs away, she will have to spend the rest of her life on the streets.

Where does NATO come into all of this? It just doesn't make any sense.

King Amanullah, Bachaa Khan, Zarteef Afridi and others spent their lives trying to convince Pashtuns to educated their daughters and treat them with the dignity and kindness that they deserve. But, thanks partly to our clergy, we vilified these men and look what it has landed us.

Look at the statistics for yourself:

                          - In Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, the literacy rate for women is 31%. However, in Abbotabad (where Hazara people live), the female literacy rate stands at 61%. Why is that?

                          - In Chitral, Abbotabad, Haripur, etc, where non-Pashtuns comprise a majority, the enrolled number of male and female primary-school students are almost equal whereas the difference is much greater in Pashtun-dominated regions (88402 male and 52160 female students in Bannu, 58988 male and 39392 female students in Buner, etc).

                          - In some cases, almost twice as many boys are enrolled in primary schools in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa than girls. Are every two boys being born for every girl?

                          - It gets much worse at the Middle-School level and above. For instance, in Battagram, there are 300 girls and 1300 boys enrolled in middle-schools, 3597 and 390 at the high school level and there are no enrolled female students at the college and university levels there. The story isn't much different in the other districts.

So not only are very few girls ever sent to primary schools but most of them drop out by the 5th grade. The 31% literacy rate shows women who can read and write Pashto, Urdu or English. They're mostly girls who have studied till the 5th or 6th grades and were subsequently made to work at home by their families.

And if this is the traditional Pashtun attitude to women's education, it gets much worse when it comes to women working. However, instead of realizing this, Pashtun society is becoming Talibanized. So Pashtun women will continue to be amongst the most downtrodden and wretched in the world for at least the foreseeable future. And NATO has nothing to do with any of this.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

                            LawenayZalmay

If I had the money I would pay for these Western born confused Pashtuns a ticket to visit all the IDP camps in Pakhtunkhwa, I would even pay for DrBarakzai to visit too since he thinks the poor, starving Maseeds who are being kicked and hit by Pakistan Elite Police units to stand in line are going to topple the Afghan government in his imginary morphone intoxicated mind.

Lawanayzalmay, problem with these Western born or those living in the West Pashtuns is that their parents provide a false image of the ground realities of what the Pashtuns are going through, they tell them Pashtuns are ghariatmand they never show theri women to anyone but they ignore the fact that most of the worst forms of domestic violence upon women are done by Pashtuns, plus what is ghairatmand about giving a young 10 year old child bride to a 60 year old man for status and money, they never tell them about those realities, or how our people are treated in Pakistan, big strong Pashtin is told to guard the gates of Punjabis, the big strong Pashtun sits on the chaman of the political agent begging for money or some job to do, they think Pashtuns are untouchable, unbeatable and invisible, its due to this false information and dishonesty our people continue to suffer.

Also Lawanayzalmay, a very dear and close friend of mine who works for a charity for IDPs in DI Khan, told me criminal gangs and those who do people trafficing for the sex trade in Pakistan, are stealing/kidnapping young Pashtun girls from IDP camps to be used in other countries and within Pakistan especially in places such as Hera Mandi and Karachi.

Our bigharata people, who are trash and stupid, sit back and ignore what is happening to our people, they would rather worry about their 5 times namaz that our sisters being raped by dirty perverted monsters.

                            Its a shame!

Afghanistan2010, Talib commander Mohammad Dost took two Hazara women as concubines, we dont need your Talib view of women rights, hopefully one day an American soldier takes your female relatives as concubines so you can feel how it feels when your own lovers in the Taliban do it.

I know its out of order what I said but these applogist Talibs living in the West where Mummy and daddy gets free benefits, free housing and a free income to keep such retards alive fustrates me, I thought its the Muslim code not be hypocritical, I assumed Allah gets angry when you become an hypocrite, so why are you a hypocrite?

Secondly, obviously most Afghans will never take this issue seriously they would rather hold hands with little boys, abuse them, and then get forgiven on fridays, its sad how our womenfolk are ignored and treated so badly.

Wake up....save your women from burning themselves, save them from domestic abuse stop blaiming them for your issues with deen.
