  • the superstitions in afghan culture

I want to know about the superstitions, the supernatural, that exist in our culture.

Part of my family is from Nuristan, from Landai Seen, Barg-e-Matal area. There are many accounts of supernatural and tabboos:

Fairies [paris] - living on high mountains and would take/lure lost people and shepherds
Spirits [Jinns] - living in remote uninhabited areas, on trees, near water

Shamans [Diyars in Kom dialect] - these people used to carry out exorcisms (over three generations back when this place was Kafiristan)

These accounts I have heard when sitting together in evenings.

In the Pashtun side of my family there are plenty of stories of nazar, and ways of averting it (by burning black peppar or by using surma)
    There are mullas who exorcise
There are plenty of events where (mostly) women/girls get possessed and then the mullas do some exorcise
there are people who cast spells

Please tell me what stories have you heard.

why are there more jinns in Afghanistan than other countries?

Is it because of all the brutalities that happened there like when the Hazaras would kill hundreds of innocent people and throw them a single well.

As a kid I was told in Kabul there are old scary women (boodeys) who kidnap children that walk alone and I can't remember properly but I think they either eat them or chop them up and sell their body parts...:S

To advise others is an easy matter, the difficulty is accepting advice -- since it is bitter for those who follow their
                own inclinations and desires

                  What does it mean ?
