LOL...next time you see him shave all of his hair off just to be sure

To advise others is an easy matter, the difficulty is accepting advice -- since it is bitter for those who follow their
      own inclinations and desires

Greetings. Appreciate the information given in this thread. Anyone familiar with the various superstitions surrounding the visiting of shrines? Doing a project on Afghan culture. Thanks.

I was checking threads of torkham and found this topic. I would share one of the superstition that is unique to our area. Our region lakki marwat is part of thal desert and summer season here is very hot and a very hot wind blow locally called as "lu". If at "mashpashin" or at "gharmay" you walk around outside for too long, you would get sun stroke. So our whole population get into sleep from gharmay to mazdigar, you would find not a single body outside at streets. But children are hyperactive, dont sleep at gharmay and want to play outside. So to keep them in homes at gharma, our elders have created a superstition "dhanra" a female creature who walks during gharma and would catch any children she find and then feed on her/him. According to folk talks, those women who dont clean themeselves , gradually turns into "dhanra", a children eating monstror...

I think this one is not a superstition. In our village the activities after evening begins to stop and at "maskhotan" after isha prayer people go to sleep. There is central cluster of houses and then at periphery houses are apart from each other with considerable distance. At "maskhotan" if you walk to another village or to the houses at periphery of same village and if you have enemity with some then you usually carry a gun but in normal routine you carry a long wooden stick with you because you may encounter a jinn, pairay in any form and when you raise stick at him pairay would disappear...

This made me laugh! I have heard this before, in fact when i was a little kid, this is how my aunt would make me take a nap. There was a slight difference in ours though.

Me and my entire family follow this, but I don't think its in just afghans because I've seen people of other different cultures do this.
