Nikkah is to be established in the house of the bride where here family is. Not somewhere else.
I dont know which nikkas you have witnessed but all pukhtana nikkas that i have witnessed are in direct conformity with the quran and sunnah. Our culture is not far from Islam it self. You compare any culture in the world to Islam and you'll realise how distant their cultures are from Islam. I can not speak for rare individual cases but as a whole the marriages are very Islamic.

The only un-Islamic nikkas that have taken place are those that live near punjabis and therefore their culture and traditions have been replaced. same goes for the pukhtana that live in afghanistan , those who have allowed their culture to be replaced with the iranian culture that the local farsibaan have picked up. even their wedding are similar to english weddings.

also Azad Khel mentioned that the nikka takes places after the women goes to the in laws house. Well this is the first time i have ever heard of such a tradition. maybes it is practised where there is little knowledge of Islam in remote areas. Nikka is always performed prior to the girl leaving for the in laws house but if the laws of purda are not violated there is no harm in consummating the nikka at the in laws house but this is more common in punjabi weddings where the nikka takes place on the wedding day with no consideration for purda prior to the nikka.

About selling daughters!! you need to be careful what comes out your mouth. you have made it out like its the norm. I have heard of cases where some have sold their daughters but this is the result of decades of war and poverty. The prophet s.a.w said help the poor at every opportunity for poverty drives one to the extreme.

I read this thread... and couldn't get my head around it.

Nikah is read at the...girls house..always.

Then the Ruhksati takes place later.

No, Nikah is read at the boy's house after the rukhsati but we do not let the boy or the girl come in front. We probably take one man from the girl side and one from the boy side to confirm their willingness for the nikah and as a shahadah as well. This is how we do. The boy disappears for for a week or so LOl. and this the nicest way.

We do nikkah at engagement (kojda), so the boy and girl are free to get to know each other until marriage and be comfortable with each other. In Islam only Nikkah is the important part, the wedding cermony is just cultural celebration of the contract of marriage.

Do you mean they can meet each other after the nikah is done before the rukhsati ? If not, then how can they come to know about each other ?

yes, when Nikkah is done, it means they are legally married in Islam.

so yes they can meet and do whatever they want.

what are you talking about? why should they be hanged when they have done Nikkah which means marriage contract has been signed willingly infront of witnesses in the Engagement (kojda). It happens mainly in the west but sometimes also in Afghanistan. It didn't use to be like this but now we do it like this in the west. Its better Islamically I think.

I know azad khel, the thread starter, he lives in buner and is not a westren pashtun. He is right nikkah takes place at boys house after rukhsati, any pashtun who live in homeland knows about this tradition.
Among punjabis it is opposite, nikkah takes place a girl's house and after that rukhsati takes place, which is i think much better than pashtun's.
