      Adam Khan,

Congrats! I'm eager to see what you find out. If you don't mind me asking, what tribe(s) is your family from? Also, whenever you get your results, be sure to let us know what you find. There is an ancestry project called Harappa that is looking at Autosomal DNA of Pashtuns as well and I will give you more information about it so we can compare each others should we match paternal or maternal ancestry.

      Keep in touch!

Im a Yousafzai from Swat, from what i've seen on here there's already data on my tribe so im guessing I should be pretty much the same as those results right?

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

            • Very excited to hear that other Pashtuns are taking the genography tests available out there.

I took the National Geographic (Version 1) test several years ago and the results were definitely intriguing. I follow updates on my haplogroup and about 16-18% of the males in Kabul have the same haplogroup as me. This makes sense as that's where my ancestors came from several generations ago.

Looking forward to seeing what other people find!

That's awesome! Which test did you take specifically? And what are your goals? Maybe I should create a new topic of Pashtun genetics and then tally the results everyone finds out here. I'm sure we will find out we represent basically the same patterns seen on most of the research articles out there.

Did you get your paternal or maternal haplogroup identified? Do you remember which haplogroup you belong to? J? G?

What paternal tribe are you from? Q is not just Siberian, Q is found all over Central Asia, from Turks to Native Americans. Your paternal ancestry is one of the most amazing human stories of all time.

Yes, it's definitely a fairly widespread haplotype. It also makes sense that it's common enough among Pashtuns since we are such a mix of different people.

A lot of people say we're really homogeneous, but science doesn't suggest that. It suggests that we may definitely have had an Iranic stratum but that several other people also became part of our gene pool. Especially when the hordes would travel around all over Asia and pick up new members.

How are you Pashtun if you name is shammar? isn't that a south arabian tribe?

No wonder your test results came out differently!

Haha, no bro, my name isn't Arabian. My name has evolved over the years from Shah Maar to Shamaar. It's another word for dragon in Pashto, or literally King Snake.

My test results point to a North or Central Asian origin, but as Midnight pointed out, Haplogroup Q is fairly widespread now.
