True, this is the type of Pashto which is used in Pashto media in Afghanistan. I am ghilzai and we speak the same dialect at home. Most people divid pashto into South ش and north خ but they they miss out on wazirwola and ghilzai pashto. It sounds like this

We Kandaharis don't accept this "standard" dialect.
The real and original standard Pashto is Kandahari Pashto and the Kandhari/Quettawal media and poets, musicians, etc. only uses Kandahari dialect which is the most prestigious .

The rest of Afghanistan and KPK uses the munga dialect but we Kandhar and Quetta people only speak our own pure Pashto.
Marwats Wazir Khattaks Bannusi and others of KPK who speak soft dialect always change their accent to match Peshwaris but we never do that

Pashto alphabet is based on Kandahari Pashto

If the Kandahari dialect of Pashto really is the most prestigious dialect, then it really should be considered as the Pashto to use as standard. I heard the "kh" sound came first though (e.g. Pakhtas), is there any way to know for sure? The Pashto alphabet may be based on Kandahari, but that could just be because Kandahar used to be the capital and the ruler based the alphabet off his Kandahari dialect.

Words like doshman which come from Persian become dokhman in you guys accent which means that the original is still doshman hence Kandahari Pashto is original Pashto and of course all rulers and kings are Kandahari, we are from the Barakzai dynasty after all ahahaha

Doshman is a loanword, so it doesn't count.

How do we know that it was Pakhto first and then became Pashto later?

For West Germanic, there was a documented consonant shift north of the Benrath Line. The original dialect is known to have been the north (low) West Germanic consonants and then there was a consonant shift in the south. Is there any similar consonant shift that has been proven by scholars to have originated in the south? Are there any words that are not loanwords where this consonant shift can be observed?

Doesn't the Ghilzai dialect (I am Ghilzai) usually pronounce it "kh" rather than the southern way of pronouncing it as "sh".

This is accepted as a standard dialect because it is the best of both worlds, of the north and south dialects.

NO. we pronounce it as ښ which is neither "khe خ" nor "she ش". Most non Ghilzais can't pronounce this letter as in their dialect it is either she or khe. Ghilzais pronounce the words as they are written in Pashto alphabet. For example the word ښادى is pronounced as خادى by northeners and شادى by southerners but Ghilzais pronounce it as ښادى. the way it is written. ښ sounds closer ح so it is between the two dialects hence called the middle dialect. Some ghilzais do live close to other pashtuns do use she and khe depending on where they live.

Not sure how to describe it but I pronounce it as a "Kh" but with the middle of the tongue pushed slightly upward. When you pronounce خ, there is something that vibrates (I think it's the tonsils) in the throat, but the ښ is pronounced the same way but without that thing vibrating, kind of like a soft خ.
