According to Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eye By Tamim Ansary page 11 Kandahar was originally called "Iskandar" which is how "Alexander" was pronounced in the east, but the "Is" dropped away and "Kandar" softened to "Kandahar". Alexander himself took most of Afghanistan with out any problems.

Herat alone was totally eradicated by the Mongols, even though Herat was the very first to surrender before the Mongols entered the region, they say it took seven days for the whole of Herat to be eradicated by the Mongols.

The British entered Afghanistan easily, and invaded twice, and successfully divided the Pashtuns from Afghanistan and brought them into British India, to this day, that line is still in effect. I didnt see any major victory from the British a large scale, the British fled, because there was nothing there for them to use against the Russians, as bickering tribes brought no value to their intentions.

Its not the people who bring empires down in Afghanistan, its the region, and the unstability, look at how the Durrani empire broke down, this a problem we must accept and face to resolve.

For people to say Afghans are untouchable, undefeatble and un-invadable, is mere nonsense, take this example, would ever see a German Citizen in Pakistan being hit with a stick to wait in line for a packet of rice? No you wouldnt, because Germany is a strong nation and would respond, but we Pashtuns get hit everywhere we go, spat on, and insulted.

My point is not that Afghans are brave fighters, but the fact is, we never speak of the truth and ground realities, our society is plagued with backwardness, women have no rights and dont deny that, we spend most of our time, fighting eachother due to tribalism and land.
    First thanks for the elaboration.
Second be very careful when you talk about pashtun fighting skills. We have a long history of wars, against each other and against non-pashtun agressors. We might not have modern weapons but pashtuns are in fact fierce and fearless fighters.
We have a tradition of guerilla warfare, in fact our babies are born with weapons. Take a look at our culture Pashtunwali and you will find an old warrior culture. Slogans like Tura, Badal, Ghag, Nangyalai and Ghairatman etc aint nothing but ideals of a man living a tribal warrior life.

Third you have the nerve to come here and to declare that Pashtuns are not brave fighters etc, mane what are you talking about? Pashtun tribes have fought for their independence for centuries and they have maintained their sovereignity until today which is a) their semi-independent status in the Paki state and their freedoms in the Afghan state. The reason why their are living like thousands of years ago is in fact their resistance and fighting against colonial powers otherwise you would dress, talk and walk like an englishman today.

Fourth you are disrespecting our forefathers, your grandfathers and greatgrandfathers shed their red blood for their children to maintain their culture and to be independent. They gave their life for resistance and fighting against the British, the Russians, the Moghul and Persians. Otherwise Kandaharis would be shiites today and speak some gay persian dialect.
The fearless and brave Pashtun fighters are the reason why Afghanistan has never been a colony, its their resistance against colonialism, they have to sacrifice their lives for their culture and traditions, go to Afghanistan and see thousands of green shaheed flags on the roadside and tell me Afghans are not brave fighters!

Honestly, there is less discrimination in Afghanistan between Pashtuns and the other ethnicities that live there when compared to the hidden discrimination we see here in the west between Pashtuns and Tajiks, etc. Afghans, regardless of their ethnicity, only wish for food and shelter. They've seen too much, and through the wars have gained appreciated and respect for one another, because the blood of Pashtuns and the other ethnicities have been spilled on the soil they were trying to protect. Most of them all just have one common goal now and that is to survive, provide food for their family, and to have a better Afghanistan. Although, many Pashtuns fear that they're language is losing strength in Afghanistan, and to combat this there should be more Pashto literature and appreciation in schools, and the media. The Afghans here in the West who are racist have nothing better to do, they have an abundance of food, are sheltered, and they have no knowledgable topics to talk about. Back home, at least now, I've noticed that people are becoming more accepting of each other. What I do notice however is that Pashtuns discriminate between themselves, which I find quite odd.

I dont need to convince you since your mind is already up and your supportive of Pakistan, but Zia ul haq saw the opportunity and invited the Americans to the region.

Al Qaida, does exist, I have seen their carnage with my own eyes in Waziristan.

Pakistan is a threat to Pashtuns as they are our neighbours, America is not, for America to indulge in the region, they must have support and their support came from the Pakistanis.

America invaded Afghanistan, and due to this, Pakistans plans have failed. Otherwise, Afghanistan would have become a province of Pakistan.

Well...to some extent this is true that pakistan was dreaming of ISLAMIC EMIRATE OF PAKISTAN...n trying to absorb afghanistan...Gen zia ul haq accepted refugees on account of same base... Afghanistan b4 was a proxy of russia. Both US n pak had different intentions. One wanted to have a bigger state...other wanted to have a strategic depth to divide n weaken the russians.Pashtuns mostly r simple minded ...caught in their. Not to mention the KSA role to send funds for so called jehad.

Afghanistan have been invaded and occupied many times, throughout the ages, Afghans are not untouchable nor undefeatable, its the land that sucks the occupier in, not the people.

Alexander conquered Kandahar very easily, so did the Arabs, the Persians under Darius, the Mongols too, they occupied Afghanistan very easily, turned the inhabitants into slaves, and the only reason why they fled was because of the bickering between their leaders, the turks, the British, and Pakistan, the Pakistanis were clever, they used Afghans as proxies to do their dirty work. Look at how the British divided the Pashtuns very easily! all they had to do was pay a king to keep his mouth shut, and millions was Pashtuns were divided, even at present, you do know, that whole groups of Talib fighters are slaughtered in the 100s, thats not an victory nor an acheivement, we live in a different world, due to Pakistans borders, American nor Nato can enter them as ground units, otherwise, those would have finished the Taliban long time ago, it took them only two weeks from air attacks, and the Taliban were overthrown, it was not hard at all for them! We are not invisible, we are beaten in Pakistan with sticks, MQM slaughter our people very openly, where is our warriors or fighters as you guys like to boast about, throughout Pashtun history, every resistance has led to inner fighting, and most of the time, Afghan kills Afghan!

Look at the wars between the Durranis and Ghilzais? how many times have they fought eachother, or what about Khushal Khan Khattaks wars with the yousufzai? we are merely just proxies of other people and ourselves, we have never been a strong diginfied nation, but a society of tribalists. this has to change!

BMX is a child, he thinks Pakistan had no role in the Soviet war, as if all those tunnels, and arms depos were sent by god himself and grown on trees.

Our people know only to fight, thats all, they never use their brains, and spend most of the time killing their own tribal rivals or their own family members.

Pakistan doesnt really need to do anything, all it did, was Al-qaidafy Afghan society, scaremongered them with lies of Afghan women wearing skirts, and how Islam is loosing ground in Afghanistan, armed and protected a few social rejects, allowed the yanks to meddled in Afghanistan through their soil, and Walah, you have Afghanistan under your thumb.

I am just being honest! our own people are the main problem, take the case of king amnaullah, who went against him, who was shami pir, who funded this?

                  Very much true..

                          Wrong.

Proof that Muslim birth rates are declining:

The reason they're declining is because Muslims are becoming less impoverished. Less poverty= Less birth rates.

So, that puts the "Eurabia" claim to rest.
