Either that or bigotry...bigotry makes you hate your self, who you are, where you come from, makes you an outcast, to the point where you don't wish to see your face in the mirror. You can't blame many though, it is pressure after all, because the Muslim identity in particular is no longer convenient now days. Many self hating Jews, Negros, and Asians try so hard to fit into cultures (mostly Anglo-Saxon) to feel accepted, they too went through this phase. This is something I studied a while back. This happens all the time when there is a dominant culture that can make people feel inferior.

Though one particular group I admire a lot are the Hispanics. Oralay homez, viva la raza!!!! No matter what those guys are proud of their ethnic and religious identity. They are never shy of their beliefs, their heritage, their people and they don't go about moaning and whining how some Spaniards brought Catholicism to their peoples centuries ago....something most ex-muslims do now days, just dumping everything on AYRAB....lulz...because of their pride you see Spanish culture thriving forcing even the so called most advanced and sophisticated people to learn and adopt to them. Cuz you gotta be proud esse, give to the putoz like you mean it vato.

I think that man as individual and as a whole has a duty to find his place within himself and in society. If God is trying to do this via religion then I can see the purpose of religion, otherwise, social contract theorists are also trying to establish the same.

With respect to religion, it is so hard when there is no authority, everyone is an authority; with respect to social contracts it is possible because there is authority, which is people themselves. Because in a social contract everyone wants to be an individual, everyone caters to themselves and society as a whole, where as in religion, it is dictated how your identity should be. See the contrast?

Since, there is a lack of authority, why should I do what the "clergyman" tells me? With respect to God, alone, I don't have a problem, if I am allowed to worship Him in seclusion.

someone I know is going through this. He is hanging around with some liberal people, and these people are filling his head with ideas. He is starting to read self-help books.
