    DAVID AND GOLIATH

We all know the story of David and Goliath. There was a giant who was bullying and harassing the children in the village.

One day, a 17-year-old shepherd boy came to visit his brothers and asked, "Why don't you stand up and fight the giant?" The brothers were
terrified and they replied, "Don't you see he is too big to hit?" But David said, "No, he is not too big to hit, he is too big to miss." The rest is history.

    We all know what happened.

David killed the giant with a sling.
    Same giant, different perception.

Our attitude determines how we look at a setback. To a positive thinker, it can be a stepping stone to success. To a negative thinker, it can be a stumbling block.

Great organizations are not measured by wages and working conditions, they are measured by feelings, attitudes and relationships.

      FACTORS THAT DETERMINE OUR ATTITUDE

Are we born with attitudes or do we develop them as we mature? What are the factors that form our attitudes?

If you have a negative outlook on life because of your environment, can you change your attitude? Most of our attitude is shaped during our formative years.

There are primarily three factors that determine our attitude. They are:

      1. environment
      2. experience
      3. education

These are called the triple Es of attitude.

        1. Environment
        Environment consists of the following:
¨ Home: positive or negative influences
        ¨ School: peer pressure
¨ Work: supportive or over critical supervisor
¨ Media: television, newspapers, magazines, radio, movies
        ¨ Cultural background
        ¨ Religious background
        ¨ Traditions and beliefs
        ¨ Social environment
        ¨ Political environment

        2. Experiences
Our behavior changes according to our experiences with people and events in our life. If we have a positive experience with a person, our attitude toward him becomes positive and vice versa.

        3. Education

It refer to both formal and informal education, not just academic qualifications. Knowledge strategically applied translates into wisdom, ensuring success. I talk of education in the broader sense. It makes the role of the educator vital. A teacher affects eternity. The ripple effect is immeasurable.

We are drowning in information but starving for knowledge and wisdom. Education ought to teach us not only how to make a living but also how to live.

                    Do you agree?
i completely agree to what u said Afghanprincess.....not barely but pessimists never succeed......

the usual mentality of human being is that when we plan to do something the first thing that comes to our mind is 'what if it doesn't work' and that says it all...whether u are going to succeed or not......

cause there is something known as subconscious mind..... if u say this again and again ur subconscious mind is getting a negative message and hence we start doing everything against positivity and definitely we are not going to succeed........

talking about confidence... Self confidence is definitely what plays a major role in being successful......if you are not confident about yourself, you are not confident about the work you are doing or you are going to do......
then tell me can one succeed if one is not sure of what one is going to do?..... no ways at all.......

faith in oneself is important and we should keep reminding ourselves that we can really believe in ourselves.....

Shlombay.....no one can encourage us more than ourselves........... believe in yourself........

if u think u can do it.............. believe me u can really do it....
and if u think u cant u have already lost it before trying .....its all in our mind.......

HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE PEOPLE WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE?

Just like an absence of ill health does not equal good health, an absence of negativity alone does not make a person positive.

People with positive attitudes have certain personality traits that are easy to recognize. They are caring, confident, patient, and humble.

They have high expectations of themselves and others. They anticipate positive outcomes. A person with a positive attitude is like a fruit of all seasons. He is always welcome.

Thank you very much, Spogmai, for this thread! It's appreciated!

Just to add, yes, attitude IS extremely important. It plays perhaps the most important role in whether you'll get a certain job or not. Every single job I've had so far has been not because of my experience ('cause none of the jobs I've held have had ANYthing in common) but because of my attitude, my passion, my enthusiasm. Sometimes honesty works as well: Just tell the folks, "I've no experience in this, but I'm HIGHLY interested in it, and I'm willing to give it my best."

And so on. So, yes, positive attitude - definitely important.

Qrratugaii..... very true... As its said "Attitude makes a difference".... its your positivity, belief in yourself that really works.....

it happens a lot of times that even after being positive things don't work.... but it doesnt mean we should give up...

because the difference between a loser and a winner is that a winner never gives up even after failure.... and failure doesn't mean you are a loser....you become a loser when u give up.....

Thank u Jasmine... i have read a few books on being positive and it really helped me in changing my attitude...

and i dont mind at all telling you why i started it here.....

i have a read a lot of posts here where our great friends are talking about improving the state of pakhtuns, pukhtana women especially, reviving our culture and many many more contributions here.....

a lot of strategies planned and proposed my members here which is highly appreciated.....

i really felt handicapped, sitting so far from my people, my land...feeling and thinking i cant do anything for my people and my culture......

so this idea came to my mind.... execution of these proposals and plans especially when u r starting something from scratch requires a lot of positive attitude......

so i thought why not help with whatever i have..... at least by reading the post and some discussion if attitude of members improve then nothing like it and may be positive change in attitude will help in better execution of these strategies.........

and believe me positive attitude is contagious.....

                              what do u say?
