This is where you are bieng misled. You dont need to screem and yell like those Lunatic feminists you see in the west with their short hair and boyish looks. You can develop a trust and respect for pashtun women by awareness, not by developing groups and being deceived by western ideologies, Not all Pashtun men treat their women badly, this is a misconception told you, everywhere couples are mistreated, you find pashtun women who beat up pashtun men if they dont get their own way, lets not just blaime men here for everything.

i didn't mention screaming and yelling anywhere in my post... fighting for freedom doesn't necessary mean pulling someone's hair...Originally posted by makeenMaseed View PostThis is where you are bieng misled. Feminism is dangerous and counter productive. It will only stir more hatred for women in regards to Pashtun Society.Originally posted by InjaleyI think its societal meaning of it, In a Patri-archal society its hard to digest that a women is running around saying they also want to walk around topless.
Could you imgine, Pashtun women walking around topless and dating boys openly!!! well there are some here who actually support that and there is one word for such people and its Bigharata

I completely disagree. How many feminists do you know who hate men? Certainly, some do, but it's definitely not all. I don't know of any myself, to be honest, and I'm actually a part of an active feminist group where I live and at my university.Originally posted by Gulmina View Postfeminism starts with fighting for women's right and ends with hatered for men.
Same here.Originally posted by Gulmina View Posti am for feminism but only if it is in the mos positive form.
They use many different strategies, kana, not just one. It started mostly with women fighting for their right to speak, and every woman involved in the earliest feminist movement was married. Even today, most feminists I know are married, and some have even changed their last names to their husbands' last names! (I found that shocking, frankly speaking. But as long as they know what they're doing and they know the implication of the change, it's all good with me.)Originally posted by Gulmina View Postthe strategy feminists use to defend women's rights is wrong.....
You do know that there are many male feminists, too, right? :pOriginally posted by Gulmina View Postthey shouldn't treat men as their enemies,
All the classes I've taken on women's studies, feminist studies, and gender studies, this is exactly what they teach; the feminist authors and scholars write just about this -- clarifying their stance over and over, trying to clear up the misconception that feminists hate men. Again, since many feminists are men, our saying that feminist hate men makes it seem like men feminists hate men, too, which is far from true. The male feminists I know are married as well -- and entirely by choice.Originally posted by Gulmina View Postrather befriend them to be able to win this battle of genders...
The reason why some women (not necessarily feminists) are lesbians has to do with their past. If you read several autobiographies of lesbian scholars and authors, you'll see for yourself why they chose this lifestyle. Certainly, it's not something we should adopt ourselves just because they adopted it, but I don't think it's fair to conclude that feminists are lesbians just because they hate men.Originally posted by Gulmina View Postthis hatered leads to many turning lesbians...
So, what happens is many a times, they've been raped, and repeatedly so. Some by their fathers, some by their step-fathers, some by their mothers' boyfriends, some by their uncles, some by their grandfathers, and so on. (Note that it's rarely a male stranger who rapes them; in most cases, it's someone they know and are even close to!) This happens during their childhood, and while they don't know what homosexuality means or what it means to hate anyone or to distance themselves from anyone, they grow to believe that the same thing will happen to them again if they get close to another man. So they avoid male friends, male family members, male relatives, and instead get closer to females, be they their mothers, aunts, female friends, female cousins, etc.
To many of us, this might be very unreasonable and not a good justification for someone to become a homosexual, but since we're not in their shoes, we shouldn't pass judgments or make any assumptions. If we've never been raped or molested, or have never had any other extreme difficulties in life, we should avoid deciding whose lifestyle is good and whose is bad. To some people out there, OUR lifestyle must be disgusting, too, but we don't care, right? Then why should the people whose lifestyle we don't like care what we think of theirs?
I'd recommend that we actually talk to lesbians ourselves and ask why they are the way they are. There are several forums, groups, and networks online about them and by them, and they would appreciate an opportunity to be allowed to speak anyway.
I recommend this not because I think we should all know and appreciate lesbians; I don't really care what people think of them, in fact. BUT if we're gonna hold disucssions on them and their lifestyle and choices they make, then perhaps it might be more fruitful for our discussion to actually survey them ourselves before believing what others tell us or just developing and strengthening our misconceptions and stereotypes about them.
I compleeeeeetely agree! And you're correct.Originally posted by Gulmina View Postfeminism doesn't mean u have to be part of some affiliated group or a toy to government... a woman can be feminist in her own home with her own husband, father, brothers and other male figures of her family... fighting for her rights and freedom.
Feminism is a name given to a certain set of beliefs about humans. If it didn't have a name, if this label didn't exist, I doubt anyone would mind; but it's just, we humans sure love to give names and labels to every idea that comes along!
I have a blog post on feminism that you might wanna read when you have time. Here's the link.
I tell you one thing - most people who hate feminism don't know ANYTHING about it at all. They think it's women wanting to dominate men (an idea that intimidates the hell out of their ignorant minds, of course), or that women being naked in the street, or women getting drunk in bars, and so on. None of this is true if you actually study what feminism means.
So let people simmer their little minds in these misconceptions and stereotypes, and nothing they say affects feminists; feminists just pity their ignorance, that's all, and we thank God we're not like them.
That's true as well, and I totally agree.Originally posted by Gulmina View Posti don't think this is something very negative that pasthoons shouldn't take seriously... lets be true to ourselves pashtoons do treat their women very unfairly... why say only pashtoon let's just say afghans as a whole... this is about time our men realize that the 'thing' they have married are actually HUMAN BEINGS... u see!Last edited by Guest; 05-16-2010, 12:36 PM.

You're smart enough to express your different views even if someone disagrees with you. Good job, and I like seeing this in PF members. Let people disagree all they want; it's good for them in the long run because they'll finally learn how to express themselves in a more civilized manner, AND they'll also get used to hearing an opposing perspective. We certainly need this. Differences shouldn't divide us. Why should we be forced to suppress our differences just because we don't know what being united means? And why should we adopt a different perspective when nothing's wrong with our own? Why don't they adopt ours instead, if one side has to submit to the views of another?Originally posted by Gulmina View Posti didn't mention screaming and yelling anywhere in my post... fighting for freedom doesn't necessary mean pulling someone's hair...
So, yes, if you're going to be as smart as you are and say what you have to say even when people disagree with you, khwage khorey, then be prepared to have certain members yelling at you and even calling you names
You just ignore them, which is something I'm in the process of doing, and they'll eventually realize how silly they're being and will at last move on.
But you, you stay strong. And when you're feeling attacked, you let me know.
The "oh well" is a good response from your side. That's correct - not everyone knows how to respond positively to a different perspective. It's a skill that many people lack, unfortunately. Consider yourself lucky for having learned it!Originally posted by Gulmina View Posti thought u will be smart enough to understand my response... but oh well
And I forgot to add: Also be prepared to have people make a LOT of assumptions about you - and to hear that you're brainwashed, are stupid, let the media fool you, are a westerner, and so on. But their comments get kinda redundant with time, so you'll just have to ignore them after realizing that they've nothing constructive to say to you and that talking to them is a waste of time for you.Originally posted by Gulmina View Postoh and... i am not being mislead... u don't know me so don't assume things about me
Yes, it's the negative connotations that make many people hate feminists and feminism. And thanks for saying! Many people will just say things about feminism and feminists without knowing what they're talking about, and you, you come here and say that you don't like the sound of it perhaps because of the assumptions against feminists. Manana.Originally posted by Gulmini_Mayan View PostI don't like the sound of feminism. I am not sure why, maybe just holds a negative connotation.
This is a very interesting way of looking at it, and I'm going to have to agree with you. It's almost obvious now that you mention it, but I don't know why I never thought of it this way.Originally posted by InjaleyI think its societal meaning of it,

Feminism is just an ism.
Like Hinduism, Communism, Racism, Liberalism, Capitalism, Progressivism, Sikhism, Facism, Fundametalism and any other ism you can think of.
Most of these isms are completely man*-made and can be completely unpicked.

something only makes sense to you if there are a bunch of other people already backing it up?
i don't need a reference for every time i feel like making a point.
educational systems expect a reference from you because they want you to follow their system and think inside the box only. how else would they grade you?

No, not everything needs a source because certain things are just a matter of observations and experiences only.Originally posted by DaZahroJaam View PostQruatu

You should know very well by now that I'm completely against the idea of thinking inside the box, sweetums
Being with people who can't think outside the box is like being locked in a prison of ignorance, and that place is not for me.
However, other things, like grand generalization needs support from authentic sources. I know of a lot of lesbians who do not call themselves feminists. Some do, but not all -- unless the lesbians you know all call themselves feminists, of course.
It's just like how a lot of people have the exact same views that feminists generally hold, but they'd go, "oh God, no, I'm so not a feminist" (and they tend to say this because of the negative view that feminists hold among the masses).
So, yeah, your saying that "all lesbians are feminists" is not true at all and needs to be backed up, unless it's your personal observation or applies only to the lesbians you know.
By the way, what would you call all gays (male homosexuals)? What are they, if all lesbians (female homosexuals) are feminists?

you mean to say that you know women who are sexually attracted to other women but do not believe in women having the same rights as men?
