YouTube - SOVIET AFGHAN WAR DOCUMENTARY Part 1/5

Is this the one made by al-Jazeera ?

    I remember seeing Kruchkov interviewed. That's a
rarity, so I expect it is from the same source.

Now I have a computer where I can watch videos in this day.
    But !
I turned on the one about the Shahid and the nasheed belted out
full volume, heads were turning !
There was no way to turn down the volume, so I
have to wait til I get home I guess.

I wouldn't mind seeing this again anyway.
    IF it's the same one.

          ^It WAS really funny!
I'm in this very sedate Business Center
          and you know how
          distinctive the nasheeds are...
          I love the sound,
but I knew I could not risk keeping listening, so I had to shut
          the video off.
          [Always some problem!]

          GYE:
          Yes, I am.
I have tons of published articles.
Not just on Afghanistan war against the Soviets -

I did a lot of work on that to get the truth out -
but also on Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan,
          and Silk Route to Kashgar.
These were the places I was interested to see myself,
so I wrote articles about them to educate
          americans.
I have so many articles, but there seems to little
interest here or I would have posted some.
A big problem too is the need for some order
in posting them, like some sub-category
could be created for PF journalists' articles, I hope.
          Are you interested in journalism?
I didn't start the video to see the CNN logo.

                        Re Manzereh's remark:
I think the documentary left something to be desired.

Possibly Afghans were not, but Hafez Allah Amir - surely was who invited Soviet army.

But the irony is - Yuri andropov personally distrusted Hafez Allah and set this proposal on judgement, claiming that "HafezAllah is hiding his real desires from us". One vote of supreme bureau decided Hafez Allah's fate and was decided to oust him. Depictions in the film is not true.

USSR had special unit, composed by people, who looked like afghans and It was trained in special conditions, it was called Muslim battalion (Despite there was huge atheist propaganda in there and also christians with southern appearance - Georgians, Armenians, Aissors and buddhist Qalmukhs). castle of Amin was took over and Amin killed. Set in his stead Karmal. My close relative was able to see Karmal in Orientalistic university, in Moscow, in 80-s. Evgeni Primakov was in favor in that times and he managed to held conferences with such people for students - Karmal, also Mustafa and Mas`ud Barzani, Jalal Talabani and so on.

So, that relative describes Karmal in very negative way, he was very dependent to instructions and never showed any initiative, was almost always drunk, in contrast to Hafez Allah, possibly that decided his fate.

By the way, the USSR soldiers who went in Afghanistan, were assured of their fair internationalist mission. I have old paperlist, which was delivered to any USSR soldier upon their arrival in Afghanistan, with some elementary phrases, on one side is russian meaning, on another transcription of pashtun phrase - There are two vey interesting ones - Jashne engelabe saur-ro tabriq miguim (Congratulations to the day of april revolution) and mo baroe komak be afganistan dust omadim (We are here to help friendly afghanistan). When soldier read those, he felt that he is there to help the people, who's most high value was april revolution.

And in soviet union people was absolutely ignorant what was going in Afghanistan! Only military personnel and party high positioned people knew.

And also word about Soviet soldier's interview, where he said "we realized americans were not there" - it is not also true. Soviet soldiers were told that they were fighting for southern borders, International obligation, to help afghan people. US was never mentioned in soviet preparation propaganda to soviet soldiers.

Soviets destroyed villages (Kishlaks) not with Airforce, but with divisionary and regimental artillery (MLRS-s, Grad was most common but also other types)

When government insisted not to open the coffins, always inside was wooden mock-man, dressed in military uniform, because the soldier was killed in such manner, that body was unable to recover (He died in high mountains or fell into deep canyon, or was hit by RPG, or was burnt into BTR and so on), so command sent such mock-coffins to prevent parents of soldiers from protesting.
