Once a person becomes alcholic he dont care about prayers and other faraiz of islam. wine is called "um-ul-khabais" because it opens the pathways & doors to other sins.
Now either you are lying or me is lying.[B]

I enjoy my Scotch once every two to three weeks.

"They -- again, all those who "matter" -- say that Muslims *should not* drink, but if they DO, it's okay."Originally posted by Roshina View PostDrinking is like one of the most common thinks in Arab, (Muslim) African, and Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt and Morocco.
Anyone who thinks that drinking makes you a non-Muslim, please define "Muslim." I mean, what MAKES a Muslim a Muslim? Is "no drinking" one of the 5 pillars of Islam? I ask because according to many Muslims, the 5 pillars define a Muslim. Feel free to disagree with this, but then don't forget to give us your definition of Muslim. And then also tell me if killing someone else, intentionally, makes a Muslim not-Muslim, too, or lying or cheating or cursing and so on. Geeez, if that's the case, I don't think there exist any Muslims in the world. ALLLLLLLLLL of them do something that Islam doesn't allow.
By the way, according to Muslim jurists (on a consensus, or ijma', meaning "alll jurists who *matter* agree on this) the Quran says that drinking has more harms than benefits (and some of them refrain from saying that it's "haraam" completely because the Quran doesn't explicitly say that; they also don't call it "sin" because the term used for "Sin" in the Quran in the verse on alcohol doesn't actually MEAN sin; that's just how it's translated and interpreted, though it really means disadvantages).
What's important about their consensus is this:
They -- again, all those who "matter" -- say that Muslims *should not* drink, but if they DO, it's okay. Their drinking does not make them un-Islamic or non-Muslims. What makes them heretics (not necessarily "non-Muslims" or "kafir") is when they disagree with the "scholars who matter" (who are a tiny group of Arab men of the 9th and 10th centuries) by saying that "drinking IS allowed in Islam"
So, unless you wanna be labeled a heretic by these folks and be damned to hell BY them in the fatwas they issue against all "heretics" (who are to be killed ACCORDING to them), don't say that drinking in Islam as acceptable
And don't admit that Muslims drink, lest all who drink shall be killed!
Also according to the fatwas on alcohol and drinking, Muslims who drink alcohol are to be lashed I believe 30 times. Interestingly, the first time I heard about this HAPPENING was last year in November during Ramadhan when a Malaysian woman was seen drinking in a Malaysian bar (or beach, some sources said). The government decided to lash her 30 times (some sources said 6 only, but it depends on which source you're reading) or so but only after Ramadhan ended because they believed it's not nice to punish Muslims in the holy month.
She was visiting from Singapore and was supposed to be leaving Malaysia soon, but the brave woman that she was/is, she decided to stay and fight for her right NOT to be lashed when *Muslim men* were never lashed for drinking and were always seen drunk throughout Malaysian bars. ANNNND on top of THAT, she also demanded to be lashed *in public*, not behind private bars in a jail, to prove to the world how unjust and in fact un-Islamic and inhumane the Malaysian government is. That's what I call gut, man. That's what I call confidence.
I didn't follow the story, but I heard that the government later decided not to lash her.
The story is all over the web. Just type in "Malaysian woman/model caned for drinking," or something like that.
How do you justify that stance when the flow of ayahs clearly associates it with "Satan's handiwork" and INFAMY and sets it right alongside of idols? Note also that the traits bestowed on it are that gambling and drinking turn you away from God.
"O ye who believe! Strong drink (khimr) and games of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan's handiwork. Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed. (90) Satan seeketh only to cast among you enmity and hatred by means of strong drink and games of chance, and to turn you from remembrance of Allah and from (His) worship. Will ye then have done? (91) Obey Allah and obey the messenger, and beware! But if ye turn away, then know that the duty of Our messenger is only plain conveyance (of the message)."
This decider verse in Maidah associates it with Satan... last time I checked Iblis and his acts were not the to be the trendsetters for Muslims.
Also, is Abdullah ibn Masud, who learned Quran directly from the messenger of God and was annointed as one of the 4 most knowledgable on the Quran "a small Arab man?"
Narrated 'Alqama from Bukhari:
While we were in the city of Hims (in Syria), Ibn Mas'ud recited Surat Yusuf. A man said to him), "It was not revealed in this way." Then Ibn Mas'ud said, "I recited it in this way before Allah's Apostle and he confirmed my recitation by saying, 'Well done!' " Ibn Mas'ud detected the smell of wine from the man's mouth, so he said to him, "Aren't you ashamed of telling a lie about Allah's Book and (along with this) you drink alcoholic liquors too?" Then he lashed him according to the law.

I dont drink because I dont see a point in drinking, its not good for health and I hate the taste of liquor/ bear. I dont mind using some wine to cook with, like for deglazing and stuff.

That's fine. I have no issue at all with your religious views as you are open and honest about them. God himself has given you the right to not lift a finger in prayer. Its your intricate, fiction generating, benevolent empire backing ideologies that make no sense in the real world.Originally posted by Baygham View PostNow we know where Mullah omar gets his guidance. all I will like to say on the matter is ..... with all the blah blah blah posted by the taliban of this forum, I have yet to see a post on anythign saying Drinking is haram.. it's been stated as to be "refrained from in order for us to be successful" but I have not seen anything in the Holy Book saying explicitly its denied. Mansookh Ayats stated that "You should not enter a majid in an inebriated state." I agree that was done to ease into its disliked state and therefore did not want to aggitate the muslims at the time by an out right declaration of it being haram but again, nothign explicit on its banning... its bad for us but so is pork and its haram(although there has been debate on that too as trichinosis which is why it was declared haram is no longer a threat).
Personally, I stay away from what is haram and enjoy what is not. I eat McBurgers, KFChicken, TacoBells and all that Allah has provided to me along with the other educated muslims. Zabiha is a sunnah a preferred process, food from the people of the book at the time of its revelation of our Holy Book has been declared permissible except what is explicitly haraam and I do not see anywhere where it is written that we cannot have meat that is not Zabiha, although I cook Zabiha at home. I do not want to start another debate here.... that is my prefference and I will be liable to Allah and no one else, especially on this forum for my actions...From the creator of www.pakhtun.com and its web forum Da Pukhtano Majlas the complete Pakhtun website!!!
