  • Do you drink alchol?

or have you ever drink it by mistake?
Many of us live in the west where drinking is normal, even in islamic republics of pakistan & iran, drinking takes place in underground parties, so i guess that many westren muslims may have experience of tasting it.
Most importantly what r your personal views on alchol drinking?

*Instead of lying dont post a reply here if some one wants to conceal it.

a muslim who drinks should worry about things far from the possible threat of his privacy being invaded and he/she who does not drink should be proud of the fact that he/she doesn't drink it. i don't see why any one would be offended by the question.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

Still, it is not what comes to mind when I am in the company of my Turkish friend or if I share a meal with his family.

Drinking is like one of the most common thinks in Arab, (Muslim) African, and Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt and Morocco.

Anyone who thinks that drinking makes you a non-Muslim, please define "Muslim." I mean, what MAKES a Muslim a Muslim? Is "no drinking" one of the 5 pillars of Islam? I ask because according to many Muslims, the 5 pillars define a Muslim. Feel free to disagree with this, but then don't forget to give us your definition of Muslim. And then also tell me if killing someone else, intentionally, makes a Muslim not-Muslim, too, or lying or cheating or cursing and so on. Geeez, if that's the case, I don't think there exist any Muslims in the world. ALLLLLLLLLL of them do something that Islam doesn't allow.

By the way, according to Muslim jurists (on a consensus, or ijma', meaning "alll jurists who *matter* agree on this) the Quran says that drinking has more harms than benefits (and some of them refrain from saying that it's "haraam" completely because the Quran doesn't explicitly say that; they also don't call it "sin" because the term used for "Sin" in the Quran in the verse on alcohol doesn't actually MEAN sin; that's just how it's translated and interpreted, though it really means disadvantages).
What's important about their consensus is this:

They -- again, all those who "matter" -- say that Muslims *should not* drink, but if they DO, it's okay. Their drinking does not make them un-Islamic or non-Muslims. What makes them heretics (not necessarily "non-Muslims" or "kafir") is when they disagree with the "scholars who matter" (who are a tiny group of Arab men of the 9th and 10th centuries) by saying that "drinking IS allowed in Islam" So, unless you wanna be labeled a heretic by these folks and be damned to hell BY them in the fatwas they issue against all "heretics" (who are to be killed ACCORDING to them), don't say that drinking in Islam as acceptable And don't admit that Muslims drink, lest all who drink shall be killed!

Also according to the fatwas on alcohol and drinking, Muslims who drink alcohol are to be lashed I believe 30 times. Interestingly, the first time I heard about this HAPPENING was last year in November during Ramadhan when a Malaysian woman was seen drinking in a Malaysian bar (or beach, some sources said). The government decided to lash her 30 times (some sources said 6 only, but it depends on which source you're reading) or so but only after Ramadhan ended because they believed it's not nice to punish Muslims in the holy month.

She was visiting from Singapore and was supposed to be leaving Malaysia soon, but the brave woman that she was/is, she decided to stay and fight for her right NOT to be lashed when *Muslim men* were never lashed for drinking and were always seen drunk throughout Malaysian bars. ANNNND on top of THAT, she also demanded to be lashed *in public*, not behind private bars in a jail, to prove to the world how unjust and in fact un-Islamic and inhumane the Malaysian government is. That's what I call gut, man. That's what I call confidence.

I didn't follow the story, but I heard that the government later decided not to lash her.

The story is all over the web. Just type in "Malaysian woman/model caned for drinking," or something like that.

I walked into a Tavern today, the second time in my life (that is the worst wording ever). The first thing that hit me was the stench, not new though. I've experienced that drunken smell along the bars and pubs around the city, where walking from one store to the other feels like your pulling the entire worlds weight with you. Today, my second visit to the tavern almost reminded me of a semiotic analysis of a movie where the character steps into a dark room and the viewers, if smart enough can figure the plot. The only thing that was different was the fact that I was not wearing white, but black (the usual with me). My eyes uncontrollably scanned the entire place within seconds while I stood there convincing the manager for an interview. The smell, getting stronger. I was lucky, it was ten in the morning, so only one customer, and that too for a chat, else it meant some news for my not-so-close peers ...

... Okay, I'll get serious in another post maybe.

I do not justify alcohol at all whatsoever. I clearly stated that MMMMMMMANY Muslims -- most of whom are quite pious and other-wise practicing Muslim, mind you-- drink alcohol. Most who drink will openly say that drinking is "haraam" (because, as I said earlier, to NOT "admit" that is to be a heretic), but they'll say they do it just because. So your calling them atheists means absolutely nothing. Your attempts of imposing your PERSONAL definition of "Muslimhood" on other Muslims is futile, k? They prolly just laugh at you for calling them non-Muslims, but just as you don't care what THEY think about YOU, they don't care what YOU think about THEM either.

If so, do a little reading, my friend.

I doubt your claim Qrratu. A practicing muslim do not drink. Once a person becomes alcholic he dont care about prayers and other faraiz of islam. wine is called "um-ul-khabais" because it opens the pathways & doors to other sins.
Now either you are lying or me is lying.

Right. It's not like some will actually TELL you they drink, lol. I have a couple of friends from Pakistan who, mind you, wear hijab and we had a long discussion ON the hijab and they claimed it's mandatory.... AND they drink alcohol. They also pray 5 times a day as far as what they've told me, AND they don't eat meat bought from non-Muslim stores/restaurants because they believe it's haraam.

Does that make them practicing Muslims? If not, then clearly, our definition of "practicing Muslims" differs.

My Moroccan and Egyptian friends tell me that alcohol shops, closed during Ramadhan, open a couple of days after Ramadhan is over and they're at their BUSIEST time of the year. Yet, those same Muslims who drink pray 5 times a day, fast all throughout Ramadan, some of them force their girls to cover up form head to toe (I said "some," not all), and so on. Does this not make them practicing Muslims?

Alcoholics are different from those who drink on certain occasions, you know; you're mixing the two. Sure, those who drink on certain occasions MAY become alcoholics, but people's drinking every now and then does NOT make them alcoholics. They *may* become such *with time*.

No one's denying alcohol can open doors for lots of things considered "bad" in Islam. But that doesn't mean Muslims don't drink alcohol.

It's not about lying; it's about observations and experiences and then making conclusions from those. No one said everyone's gonna have the same experiences or even observations; nor would all people make the SAME conclusions from the same observations they make.

it seems a wierd topic, even the poster himself did not say anything about himself, if he is a drinker, ever tried or else. please start from yourself. i see no one has yet confess to drinking, but you can see rude comments, cursing.
then mr. jodigul wrote the who drinks is not a muslim, how can you claim that? is it new fatwa. have you seen arabs drinking? have you ask an arab who drink how he justifies his drinks. they wine(sharab) is haram because its said in the quran, but the rest is ok to drink. so please leave this topic. i ahve seen arabs and other muslims living with an woman, prays 5 times and fasting, they say(mostly wahabi) if one stops praying he becomes kafir.

as for the matter of the topic being discussed, it's a wonderful idea. it's a serious matter than needs to be discussed with the confused members of current generation.

This a very personal question! I agree with an earlier response... what's next...Has anyone had pre-marital sex?...Come on guys, no one here can prove who is a better Muslim. It is not in your right to impose your religious views upon others in the country I live in. I completely agree with Qrratugai. I have been to Morocco, Turkey and UAE (Dubai). Alcohol is openly sold in these nations. Many Muslims drink and most practice Islam as it is written out in the book. Alcohol is a part of some cultures, Serbian Muslims, Africans, Persians and most Arabs drink because it is a part of their culture, it has NOTHING to do with Islam.

For anyone to call them bad Muslims should look at themselves. I have many non-muslim friends who drink alcohol. They are great people and I love them for who they are. Drinking does not make a person a BAD person. Please people evolve, the rest of the world has evolved. If you want to practice Islam, keep it to yourself. No one wants to hear how great of a Muslim you are. According to the teachings of Islam, only God has the authority to judge you.

I almost forgot to answer the question....I actually refuse to answer the question...its no ones business to know what I do....
