    The fact is the Saudis are throwing billions and billions of dollars away in to these conflicts around the middle-east. Everyone knows that this "sudden" Saudi "generosity" is aimed at weaking Hizbullah and Syria. However the Shia are the biggest single ethnic/sectarian group in Lebanon and Hizbullah influence cannot be removed just like that.

    The fact is the Assad government is probably going to win the war whether the Saudis like it or not. The Lebanese army will never be as strong as the ideologically motivated Hizbullah, and the Lebanese army itself consists of many Shias (who support Hizbullah).

    The Lebanese if they are clever will milk free Saudi cash and just pretend they will fight the Saudis proxy war against Syria.

    However the Saudis might also be looking just to ignite a war in Lebanon anyway as Lebanon is a volatile cocktail of different ethno-religious groups.

    Most of these weapons that the Saudis will fund, will be French weapons.

    The French president, Hollande, was in Saudi recently.

      YABRUD, Syria (AFP) - Syria's army has taken total control of the strategic town of Yabrud from rebels after a fierce 48-hour-battle, an AFP journalist in the town on Sunday said.

      "We took total control of the town at 10:00 am (0800 GMT)," an army officer confirmed to AFP as visibly exhausted soldiers rested on pavements lining the streets.

      The Syrian army have taken a key militant stronghold i.e. Yabroud near the Lebanese border.

      16 March 2014, the Syrian Arab Army liberated the city of Yabroud (on the Lebanese border), the last major stronghold of the contras affiliated to the Al-Nusra Front (Al-Qaeda) and to the Islamic Front (Saudi militia).

      More than a thousand contras (rebels) have retreated to Lebanon.

      The liberation of Yabroud foreshadows the end of the battle for Qalamoun and the securing of the entire Lebanese border. This represents an extremely hard blow to the foreign armed groups attacking Syria.

      The contras continue to occupy zones adjacent to the Jordanial and Turkish borders.

      * The Syrian army is about to seal the securing of its flank with Lebanon. What then remains is the Jordanian and Turkish borders.

      Turkey knows that it has lost in Syria as Russia and Iran are breathing down Turkey's necks. Russia is regularly harassing the Turkish coast with military planes.

      Turkey also knows if the Erdogan regime declares war against Syria, Iran will declare all out war against Turkey and they will mobilize the Kurds too. Turkey would be defeated and would lose its part of Kurdistan.

      Jordan is a militarily weak country and the Syrian army could run it over in a short space of time. However the Syrians will look to secure Daraa and the Syrian border with Jordan.

      Syria will never be allowed to fall, ever.

      The Iranians have many options including a mass mobilization of millions of Shias from Iraq and Iran.

      Saudi Arabia has been defeated in Syria.
