for some one who claims to be a scholar i thought you would have rather spent your time learning from a fellow scholar rather than wasting your precious time on people who can only give you their personal opinionsOriginally posted by Dust View PostI understand what you are saying. I will email and post the answer. However, when people are claiming that Islam is right and then they defend their sect, they must have logical reasoning why. So, it should be as valid. Don't you think?
Islam does not require one to follow a particular sect, non of these sects that we see today existed in the life time of the Prophet sw. one does not become a kafir by not following a sect, the most important that we have are the Book of Allah azzawajal and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet sww

He was Ahmedi. He left Pakistan when Ahmadis were declared non-muslims. A very interesting thing to know is that he is the "First Nobel Laureate" in the world!!! Surprise, surprise!Originally posted by Dust View PostAre you talking about Abdus Salam? He was an Ahmadi? What do you mean by liberated?
Need to research on Ahmadis.

Notice how the word "muslim" has been rubbed off and making him the "first nobel prize winner" rather "first muslim nobel prize winner". I came to know about this from one of his best friends Dr.Murray Gell-Mann, another Nobel Laureate...was quite embarrasing, I must say...
According to Nobelprize.org:
And....Abdus Salam is known to be a devout Muslim, whose religion does not occupy a separate compartment of his life; it is inseparable from his work and family life. He once wrote: "The Holy Quran enjoins us to reflect on the verities of Allah's created laws of nature; however, that our generation has been privileged to glimpse a part of His design is a bounty and a grace for which I render thanks with a humble heart."
full editorial:Daily Times - Leading News Resource of PakistanAfter the great scientist was buried in Chenab Nagar, his tombstone said ‘Abdus Salam the First Muslim Nobel Laureate’. Needless to say, the police arrived with a magistrate and rubbed off the ‘Muslim’ part of the katba. Now the tombstone says: Abdus Salam the First Nobel Laureate"O Pakhtuns!, Your house has fallen into ruin, let us rebuild it".
"I want to see my people educated and enlightened. A people with a vision and a strong sense of justice, who can carve out a future for themselves in harmony with nature".

What sect did the Prophet and his companions belong to? There are established truths in Islam that can't be changed or ignored. The fundamentals of Islam. To verify these fundamentals we can rely on early history and works of different people. The truth naturally stands out from the falsehood, because falsehood requires verifiable testimonies which it rarely provides.Originally posted by Dust View PostWell, I believe that you must belong to a sect or a group. Islam is a very rich concept; and, for there to be an absence of organization is totally absurd. It would render Islam nullified.
I believe that there must be authority, hence a sect or a group.
Most of the people on this forum are so intolerant towards one another. There must be a group that is tolerant due to its organizational structure.
The search continues, until then we'll just keep inquiring.
Islam is against sects, it is clearly stated in the Quran. Our greatest reference is the Quran. If any "Islamic" idea, concept, or innovation contradicts Quran, it's invalid. If it's not in the Quran, we rely on the so-called "authentic" hadeeths. However I like the traditional way of addressing "Sunnat" which was very prevalent amongst Pukhtoons before the influence of deobandism, salafism, tablighism. Basically we were thought that Sunnat is not required, you can follow it if you desire, but it is not mandatory. We were doing pretty well with that. Till the neo-prophets arrived and declared hadeeths into divine revelations. Instead of one Prophet, we now have multiple. i.e. Prophet Bukhari and Muslim. As if the concept of Sunnat and hadeeths did not exist before these schools.
There was beauty in that... you see when Sunnat was not made mandatory, in our society those who were genuinely seeking God, grew beards, and lived like the Prophet and his companions. They went on to follow the Sunnat because they were really pious people. The beard was from true intention, their modest means was from true intention. So you knew that when you saw men who dressed this way, lived this way, were indeed from the holies of the holies. You adored them, you admired them.
Now when Sunnat is made mandatory by these zealots, charsi, bangi, drug dealer, warlord etc. etc. you name it is a SUNNATI. People have come to despise the beards, the "SUNNAT", of the Prophet and his companions. The noor is gone. You can't tell a difference between a harami SUNNATI, and a halal SUNNATI.
Remarkable.Last edited by Guest; 10-06-2010, 07:16 PM.

See, for me, as for every other political scholar, we meddle among the laymen in order to get a better understanding of how society works. Hence, my time spent amongst you is not wasted.
Moreover, it is not the scholars, within Islam, who are at each others' throats. It is the people like you, the followers.
Let me give you an example. You said that you don't have to be part of a sect. However, I must follow have the Quran and the sunnah. However, many have the Quran in their home, even Atheists, does that make them a Muslim? I can go and buy all the books of ahadith, will that make me a follower of Muhammad? I think you and I both know the answer to that.
What is left? Interpretation!
Today, on this very website, you have Muslim people who are at each others' throat. Why? Is it because of their own research? I believe not. It is because they follow "scholars." These scholars don't just call themselves Muslim. They have an "iyyah" or an "ism" that they follow. What does all this equate to? Sects!
Therefore, sects are essential, because they distinguish one interpretation from another.
Yes, in essence one must follow what Muhammad did; but who is the authority to say that this is the sunnah and this is not? Therefore, you have sects. Why? Because people disagree. Everyone of the sects claim that their founder is the authority and his interpretation stands.
Do you follow my train of thought?
In essence, whether I ask you or a "scholar" it should not matter. Because I believe that you are not a blind follower of Islam. Otherwise, for if you were a blind follower, someone who is following what their parents believe, then you have no right to say that Islam is correct and ALL other religions are wrong.
Which leads me back to another point I made earlier? Who is the authority in Islam?Last edited by Guest; 10-06-2010, 07:44 PM.

This man brought the Muslims glory and they said they don't want it? But I always looked at him as a Muslim, for that is what he has said. I guess I have to study what his beliefs were in order to understand why.

This leads me to another question: if God spoke, why does He not speak now. It is obvious that the Quran and the practice of the Muslims are at odds with each other.
Does this mean that Bahaism is correct?
Do you follow my train of thought? In other words, why did Islam come in the first place?

You are on the right track, Dust.
Authority can only be established by Allah Ta'ala. If authority can only be established by Allah, then that means that the person has to either be a prophet or a khalifa.
Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) was a prophet and he was the authority sent by Allah as per the prophecies of Hadhrat Muhammad (saw). And, according to the Holy Quran and the ahadith of Hadhrat Muhammad (saw), khilafat would be re-established on the basis of prophethood just as was the Righty Guided Caliphate.
Hope this helps.

Dust;
Same here mate.Wrayun, always a pleasure to have a discussion with you!
This leads me to another question: if God spoke, why does He not speak now. It is obvious that the Quran and the practice of the Muslims are at odds with each other. The Quran clearly states that our direct connection to God, the Prophet of Islam, is the last one:Do you follow my train of thought? In other words, why did Islam come in the first place?
Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah , of all things, Knowing. 33:40
From what I understand God however can still communicate through dreams. But no more messengers, or Prophets. This is something we have understood from the above verse and going through historical records. It is an establish truth we can't argue with. Why it is the case, I don' t know. Maybe the final foundation for humanity growth as spiritual beings was set with Islam, and revelations are no longer needed.
As for the disagreements and sects between Islam, we can see that that was a foreseeable outcome even at the time of the Prophet himself (verse 6:159)
What is in Bahaism that's not already established in Islam? You have to look at what the Bahá'u'lláh brought as per his message. Very incoherent and inconsistent compared to the Quran of Mohammad. What was his divine miracle if any? He like most modern day prophets was a political agent who you can be trace from kith to kin.Does this mean that Bahaism is correct?
On a personal note, the only Prophet or messenger that can come now has to be the one which will bring the reckoning. We have evolved to the point where man can challenge God with man made tools. Man has reached the point where he now thinks that God is obsolete. This goes hand in hand with the belief that Jesus, will return, and when he returns, I don't see how any opposition (i.e. disbelief) can exist. And I don't see how existence as it is for human beings is possible after the arrival of Jesus. Our purpose for this existence would be nullified, and the next step would be to enter eternal truth. ----but that's just me.
