To be completely fair, however, I want to say a few I do like.

I was waiting to see if Pakhtun_Policy would select the one Pir who I mentioned earlier as being special in my humble world view. He did now. He could have picked a more representative picture, though. I have some in my files.
I like too the one from Kashmir and the black and white picture with the script atop it which appears to be from an older era.
    There is no caption -
    Who is it?

I don't like all that feetwashing superstitious stuff. If someone believes in it, fine. But it's not for me.

However, some unappealing beliefs or ways does not mean that some of these Sufis are not very righteous.

How can we form some sort of cross-jurisdictional alliance - or, at least, understanding and concordance - between REALLY GOOD MUSLIMS who have the fierceness needed to fight back against many evils of today ?!

It's IMPERATIVE ! I think it's important to acknowledge any good one sees in other paths so that some kind of cooperation can exist.
But not to endorse every wrong thing that side may be doing.

    1. How can you call compare a Believer ( i.e Sufis above) to a Sikh? How can you compare a person whose tounge is moist with zikr La ilaha illallah to be similar to a Sikh?

    2. The Pir you mentioned earlier on Hazrat Syed Muhammad Ameer Shah Gillani is indeed a Sunni Syyed from Ahlul Bayt and he was from family with Ghause Pak (R.A) . He was a great Walli of his time.

You can read more about him on this site:

    http://www.alameer.org

    3. The picture below is of Hazrat Syyed Shah Mohammad Hassan wal Hussaini Baghdadi Gillani Rahmatullah Alayh. He was Syyed from Iraq ,but mooved to India to spread Islam.A great WalliUllah of his time.

Thank you for following up about especially this Hazrat directly above. Could you check to see from which era he was ? Where is he buried in India, do you happen to know or could find out?

He looks remarkable. By ANY standard of ANY era.

No I am NOT saying Sikhs are the same as Sufis. It was their EYES and the style of posing for the camera perhaps, which were resonant of the mode of Sikh iconography. Which may have been derived from Sufis, as someone maintained earlier.

I still resent Ranjit Singh's behavior, by the way. That upsets me to this day.
So, I am no fan of Sikhs.
Though I am not against any individual ones, I think they have a false melange of ideas. I wouldn't recommend attacks on the Golden Temple of Amritsar like Indira Gandhi's Hindu forces did, though. Let them be.

I will check the other site mentioned to look at, later. I plan to return to this thread.

The Shaikh while giving a speech during the time of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) was explaining the concept of sacrifice. He said the true sacrifice is accepting the truth that our existence is due to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala's essence. A sheep sacrifices itself for a single recitation of "Allahu Akbar" but, we say "Allahu Akbar" repeatedly in our regular prayers - but we don't sacrifice ourselves even once. Whenever you say, "Allahu Akbar", make sure that you remember Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala's omnipresence and that we subsist because of His essense. That's the sacrifice we will have to do everytime we pray.

Noor-e-Punjetan Gausul Waqt Qutbe Zaman Siraj-ul-Awliya Burhanul awliya Shaykhul Mashaaikh Jigar Gosha-e-Gaus-e-Azam RasoolNuma Shaykh Syed ash Shah Muhammad Hasaniul Hussaini Qadiri Bagdadi Jilani summa Madani Radi Allahu anhu

The GrandShaykh was given the title of Rasool-Numa because Hazrat reached to such a level in Wilayat that during Muraqaba he make his Mureed do the ziyarat of Sarwar-e-Konain Sayyedina Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam.. SubhanAllah

Grandshaykh is the only Mashaaikh who has beaten the Deoband master Molvi Ashraf Ali Thanvi with his blessed sandle , you can read about the incident below.

During their first visit to India from Bagdad Shareef Our Grand Shaykh his excellency Noor-e-Punjetan Gausul Waqt RasoolNuma Jigar Gosha-e-Gaus-e-Azam Shaykh Syed ash Shah Muhammad Hasaniul Hussaini Qadiri Bagdadi Jilani Radi Allahu anhu & his elder brother Noor-e-Punjetan Arif-billah Jigar Gosha-e-gaus-e-Azam Shaykh syed ash Shah Abdul Karim Hasaniul Hussaini Qadiri Bagdadi Jilani Radi Allahu anhu were on their way to pay homage to the shrine of Qutbe Deccan Khwaja-e-Khwajegaan Khwaja Banda Nawaz Gesudaraz Hussaini Radi Allahu anhu.

While they were on journey from Hyderbad(India) to Gulbarga Shareef Sajjadanasheen of Gulbarga Shareef got the basharat of Sultanul Awliya Sarkar Gaus Paak Radi Allahu anhu. The sajjadanasheen sahib said today is the day of Eid as the Shaykh of Shaykh is in my house , Gaus-Paak Radi Allahu anhu replied "My two son are on their way to pay homage to your forefather Khwaja Banda Nawaz Radi Allahu anhu i command you to give both your daughter's in Nikah to both of my Son" Sajjadanasheen sahib replied My pleasure Yaa Sultanul Awliya.

In the morning when both the Prince of Gaus Paak Radi Allahu anhu reached Gulbarga shareef , Sajjada Sahib told them about their dream and both the Prince accepts the two Waliya selected by their Grandfather Sarkar Gaus-Paak Radi Allahu anhu.

The Mashaaikh of Qadiri and Chisti order who attended this beautiful wedding were heard saying " This is the best of the wedding of this century , Union of Hasani Prince with Hussaini Princess"

          Allahu Akbar!!!!!!!

From both this wedding came many Wali's who through their Ruhaniyat has make the Moon of Islam shine brighter and brighter.

Noor-e-Punjetan Arif-billah Jigar Gosha-e-gaus-e-Azam Shaykh syed ash Shah Abdul Karim Hasaniul Hussaini Qadiri Bagdadi Jilani Radi Allahu anhu is resting at Chincholi shareef in Karnataka India.

Noor-e-Punjetan Gausul Waqt RasoolNuma Jigar Gosha-e-Gaus-e-Azam Shaykh Syed ash Shah Muhammad Hasaniul Hussaini Qadiri Bagdadi Jilani Radi Allahu anhu is reasting near the feet of Khatun-e-Jannat salamun alayha at Jannatul Baqi Madina Munawwara.

The other Wallis on the picture are his sons.

RasoolNuma Hazrat Syed Muhmmed Baghdadi Closeness to Rasoolullah

In 1355 Hijri Rasulnuma Shaykh Syed Muhammad Shah hasani ul hussaini Qadiri Bagdadi Jilani summul Madani migrated to Madina Munawwara.
Hazrat Sahib stayed there for 10 years and took veil on 15th Muharram 1365 hijri.

Once a god fearing person from South Africa visited Madina Munawwara for Umrah and ziyarate RasoolAllah Salla Allahu ‘alayh Wasallam, he was a true ashiq-e-Rasool. This noble person was given the basharat by Sayyedina RasoolAllah Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam who guided him to Hazrat and beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam said go and take bayah with Syed Muhmmad Bagdadi, who is nowadays residing in Madina Munawwara , Sayyedul Mursaleen Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam further said “Taking Bayah from the hand of Syed Muhammad Bagdadi is like taking bayah from the hand of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani”.

Sayyedul Mursaleen Sayyedina Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam further show him the shabi mubarak of Hazrat and also gave him the address of Hazrat who at that moment was staying in Madina Munawwara.

This Person from south africa met Hazrat and took bayah with his bless hand and he shared this dream with all the chief Mufti’s of Madina Munawwara. All the Sunni grand Mufti’s visited Hazrat and started taking sohbet from him and all of them universally gave him the title of “JANASHEEN-E-GAUS-US-SAQLAIN”, Hazrats fame reached to all the corner’s of arab world and many Shuyukh’s from different parts of Arab countries started meeting Hazrat and took his Sohbet.

Hazrat RasoolNuma Syed Muhmmed Baghdadi VS Ashraf Ali Thanvi Najdi

During Hazrats early day’s in India(Hyderabad) , The Ulema of deoband used to meet him and give him a lot of respect especially Molvi Ashraf Ali Thanvi. Hazrat was not aware of their corrupt belief’s as he hardly understand Urdu as he was from Bagdad Shareef , He only used to communicate in Arabic and Farsi.

Once Molvi Ashraf Thanvi met Hazrat after kissing Hazrats hand invited him for their Ijtema near historical Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad. There was a large gathering and the Molvi’s of deoband came personally to escort Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh to the Makkah Masjid. There was Big stage and the Deobandi Molvi’s throw roses on Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh when he enter’s the venue. Hazrat took his seet and started listening to the lecture(although he could hardly understand what they were saying) , As Mehfil was in full swing . All of sudden Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh left his seet and threw one of his bless Sandal on Ashraf Ali thanvi who was delivering the lecture, and this Son of Haider-e-Karar alayhis ‘salam roared like the Lion of Allah ” You Scoundrel shut up, I can smell the Kufr from your mouth” and threw his other sandal towards Ashraf Ali thanvi. Then Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh ran toward’s Ashraf Ali Thanvi to catch and kill him , before Hazrat could lend his hand on this clown , he and his cronies ran from the gathering. Everyone was stunned with this incident.
Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh went on the stage and asked one of his disciples to bring him a Pen and Paper, He then wrote the Fatwa of Kufr on Ashraf Ali Thanvi himself.

One of his disciple ask him “Hazrat you dont know Urdu. I was listening to the lecture but did’nt find anything wrong in his speech.
Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh replied I did’nt understand Urdu but I could smell the Kufr from his mouth, You were watching his voice I was listening to his heart. All of his word’s from his mouth had the stinking smell of Kufr coming from them.

Note - Hazrat Sahib Rahmatullahi ’alayh didnt understand urdu but with the Fazl of Allah Azwajal and with the Karam of Punjetan-Paak, Gaus-e-Paak & the Power of his Wilayat he smelled the Kufr of Molvi Thanvi

The same day when Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh went to sleep he got the Basharat of Huzoor Sarwar-E-Konain Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam.
Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh narrates that Huzoor Sarwar-E-Konain Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam asked me ” O Syed Muhammad Hussaini we are very pleased with you , Make a wish and it will be granted”
Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh replied ” O my Master Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam I wish for a place near Khatun-e-Jannat salamun alayha’s feet’
Huzoor Sarwar-E-Konain Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam “smiled and replied Granted.”

Hence Hazrat Rahmatullahi ’alayh was blessed to be buried near the feet of Khatun-e-Jannat Sayyediah Fathima Tuz Zahra Salamum Alayha.
The above incident has been noted by many Ulema of Deccan and it can also be found in one of Maulana Arshadul Qadri Rahmatullahi ’alayh Books.

There are thousands of Karamats of this lion of Allah Azwajul and mountains loads can be written on his blessed personality, However these are a few drops that we have shared. Hazrat was blessed with four sons. However he chose the eldest and second eldest to be his Successors. Arif-Billah Hazrat Ash Shah Syed Muhmmed Faisullah Chisti Qadri Baghdadi Rahmatullahi ’alayh was tied with the Chisti Amamah. His Holiness rests at chincholi Shareef, India. His other son Sirajul Awliya Hazrat Syed Muhmmed Abdul Rahim Qadri Baghdadi Rifai Chisti Banda-Nawazi Rahmatullahi ’alayh was tied the Qadri Amamah. He rests at Hussaini Alam Shareef,India. RasoolNuma Hazrat Syed Muhmmed Baghdadi Rahmatullahi ’alayh’s two other sons Hazrat Abdul Karim Qadri Baghdadi and also Hazrat Muhmmed Moinuddin Qadri Baghdadi Rahmatullahi ’alayh both rest in the Husaini Alam Shareef Graveyard.

            No. Thats not the point.

Just like Sikhs worship their gurus and attempt to raise their status likewise do the Sufis and Shi'ites worship their sheikhs and Imams.

When I was young I used to find the "noor" on the face of Indian actress Vijinti Mala always very captivating and enchanting . I wonder if she was a sufi too. What a logic!

The Chisti Sabiree Jahangiri Silsila was brought to South Africa by Janab Ebrahim Madari Chisti Sabiree (May Allah illuminate his grave) in 1944, under the instruction of his beloved Pir-o-Murshid, Hazrat Sayed Muhammad Iqbal Shah Chisti Sabiree (RA). Janab Ebrahim Madari settled in Durban, from where he conducted and spread the Chisti Sabiree Order under the name of "BUZME SHAH IQBAL CHISTI SABIREE OF SOUTH AFRICA", throughout Southern Africa. Here, he also conducted the very first Urs of Hazrat SABIR PAAK (RA) in 1944. Thereafter, it became an annual function.

Sayyid Muhammad ibn 'Alawi ibn 'Abbas ibn Abd al-Aziz Al-Maliki was born in 1947, a descendent of the prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace be upon Him) through Imam Hasan, a grandson of the Prophet. His family were traditional Maliki scholars with an ancestral residence in the Holy City of Mecca. His grandfather was the Qadi (Chief Judge) of Mecca and an Imam of the Haram, the site of the Ka'aba. The Maliki residence was close to the Haram, next to Bab al Salaam, and there our Sheikh was born.

At school in Mecca, his first and most important teacher was his father, the illustrious Sayyid Alawi (1328-1391 A.H.), whose name was rather unusual, since he was an Idrisi sharif. The reason was that our Sheikh's grandfather, Sayyid Abbas ibn Sayyid Abd al-Aziz, son of the great saint Muhammad al-Maliki al-Makki al-Idrisi, had only daughters and greatly desired a son to succeed him as the chief Maliki scholar of Mecca. When he learned that the great Hadhrami scholar and Qutub, the Gnostic Habib Ahmad ibn Hasan al-Attas, had arrived in Mecca, he went to visit him, explained the situation to him and asked him for his prayers. Habib Ahmad answered him that not only would Allah grant his request and give him a son, but that he would also be the most eminent scholar in Mecca. However, because it was to be through the baraka of the Ba-'Alawi sayyids of Hadhramaut, he was to name the boy 'Alawi.

Sayyid Muhamamad Al Maliki, our Sheikh, was a contemporary Meccan scholar of Tafsir (interpretation of the Qur'an), Hadith (the sayings of the Prophet), Fiqh (Islamic law), 'Aqidah (tenets of faith) and Sirah (Prophetic biography). He was the most highly acclaimed and respected scholar (Sheikh) in Mecca.

His father, Sayyid Alawi, taught and lectured in the precincts of the Holy Haram for 30 years until he passed away on Wednesday, 21 April 1971 / 25 Safar 1391, his funeral being the largest seen in Mecca for the previous 100 years. Sayyid Muhammad from his early childhood was authorized by his father to teach every book he studied with him. He also learnt at the feet of such prominent Meccan scholars as Sheikh Sayyid Amin Qutbi, Sayyid Hasan Fad'aq, Sheikh Hassan Masshat, Sheikh Muhammad Nur Sayf, Sheikh Saeed Yamani and many others. He frequented the great scholars and Gnostics of Egypt, such as Sayyid Muhammad al-Hafiz al-Tijani, Sheikh Ahmad Ridwan of Luxor, Sheikh 'Abdal Halim Mahmud the chief religious authority in Egypt (Sheikh al-Azhar), Sheikh Salih al-Ja'fari, and Sheikh Muhammad Zaki Ibrahim, among others

At 25, he received his Ph.D from the esteemed Al-Azhar University in Cairo. His thesis on Hadith (the sayings of the Prophet) was rated excellent and highly praised by the 'ulama (learned scholars) of the time, such as Imam Abu Zahra. During his never-ending quest for knowledge he travelled extensively through North Africa, Egypt, Syria, the Far East, Turkey, Yemen and the Indian subcontinent to gather Hadith, collect manuscripts, visit scholars and saints and benefit from their wisdom.

Apart from the 'ulama of the Hijaz he received "Sanad" or "Ijazah" (lineage of authority to teach and guide) in the theological and spiritual sciences, from eminent savants all over the Islamic world. The great Da'ee (caller to religion) Imam the Qutub, the Knower of God, Habib Ahmad Mashur al-Haddad, Sheikh Hasnayn Makhluf, Grand Mufti of Egypt, Sheikh al-Ghimari of Morocco, Sheikh Ziauddin Qadiri of Madinah and numerous others gave him their 'ijazah.

In 1970 he was appointed professor of Islamic studies at the Umm-ul-Qurra university in Mecca. Then in 1971, after his father's death, the scholars of Mecca asked him to accept his father's position as a teacher in the Holy Mosque, which he did. He was also appointed as chief judge at the international Qira'at (Qur'anic reading) competition in Mecca for many years.

Having succeeded his father in Mecca, he maintained the tradition of indefatigable teaching for over thirty years. Even when he was prevented from teaching in the Mosque by the Wahhabis, who had declared him an apostate, the school which he had started in his own house remained active.

His debates with the Wahhabis are well known. Suffice it to say that they increased his popularity worldwide, for books were written in his defense by Moroccan, Yemeni, Emirates, and other scholars, in addition to countless magazine articles. He was a close friend of King Fahd, who being a reasonable man and an astute politician, invited him to his palace in Mecca many times. Even after the late King had a heart attack the Sheikh would visit him and recite the famous Burda of Al Buisiri. Fahd made it clear that they were on good terms.
As mentioned above, throughout his life, Sayyid Muhammad remained very close to the Ba-'Alawis. In addition to the fact that there were always young 'Alawis among his students, he had also given one of his daughters in marriage to an 'Alawi of the 'Aydarus family. At his home, he also commemorated the anniversary, each year, of the death of the Gnostic Habib Ahmad ibn Hasan al-'Attas. He described the great Gnostic Habib 'Abd al-Qadir bin Ahmad al-Saqqaf, Habib Ahmad Mashhur al-Haddad, and Habib 'Attas Habashi, in Mecca, as others of his spiritual mentors. They in turn were extremely affectionate to him, were always pleased to see him, and gave him their unconditional support. He recited the awrad of Imam Abdallah ibn Alawi al-Haddad regularly and included them in his collection of invocations. As for Habib Muhammad Salih al-Mehdar, he could always count on Sayyid Muhammad to attend his innumerable mawlid gatherings in Mecca, Medina, and Taif. When he spoke, Sayyid Muhammad's words assuaged troubled hearts, uplifted souls, stirred up the love of God and His Prophet in people, and increased their knowledge.

Sayyid Muhammad wrote over 100 books.
In a conference about opposing extremism he pointed out that twenty years before, in his famous book al-Mafahim, he had suggested a meeting to resolve the differences between himself, some factions of Ahl al-Sunnah, and the Wahhabis. Ten years after the conference he wrote a short treatise on extremism and takfir and warned of their dangers. He concluded by hoping that the Muslims had learnt their lesson and that school curricula in Saudi Arabia would be altered and the media used appropriately to reduce the likelihood of terrorism in the future.
He passed away on Friday, the 15th of Ramadan 1425 (2004) in a state of fasting at his house in Mecca, surrounded by his children, his brother Sayyid Abbas and other family members.
His Janaza funeral prayer was first offered at his residence, and attended by many prominent Sheikhs, Ministers and murids from all over the world.
His Janaza was then taken to the Grand Mosque and placed near the Ka'aba to perform the final prayers. The Imam at the time was Subayl who was heard crying as he recited the funeral prayers; even the Wahhabi Imams recognized that a great Islamic scholar was gone. The bier was then lifted to be taken towards Suk al-Layl which leads towards the famous cemetery Al Mu'al'a. The Janaza was followed by a procession of thousands which filled the streets of Mecca from the Grand Mosque to the graveyard. Five hundred soldiers had to be deployed at the cemetery to control the crowds.

The Sheikh was laid to rest next to his father and grandfather, near the grave of his ancestor Sayyidah Khadijah.

Through his influence China will sign an agreement with the West not to use its nuclear weapons. China will split into many different small countries. There will be problems in the Far East, in the Korean Peninsula, and a great power would intervene to stop that conflict."

                              First, for Pakhtun_Policy:

That's an interesting saying of Sheikh Abdullah Daghestani.
I visited his house in Damascus and was shown their photo album.
It was my birthday and this happened unexpectedly.
I wouldn't say anything bad ever about this sheikh.
I know he's on the Naqshbandi lineage of Imam Shamyl, right?
Do you know the exact connection?

Sheikh Nazim claims to be his appointed khalifa, right?
I'm not sure about HIM. Without a lot of research it is too difficult to pinpoint accurately the truth.
                              [Better picture by Faqir AlamM.]

Faqir AlamM - I will look at the video but isn't Martin Lings pretty controversial?

Who is this Yaqoubi above Sheikh Nazim? He appears a Westerner, too, though has Syed in his name.

Tell us a little about yourself, if you don't mind, Faqir, like where you're from or any details you feel comfortable to reveal.

What does the second M stand for?!

And yes Shayk Nazim is his Khalifa. You can see and read the whole Naqshbandi Haqqai chain here:

Shayk Yaqubi is not westerener. He is Syrian Arab and he is from Ahlul bayt and a great Sufi Saint in Syria:
