      ^Quick quick to attack Islam, quick quick to blind oneself with baseless excuses. The problem with you folks is your displeasure with Islam constitutes with what people do now a days. How people justify their actions "now a days" and how many sects there are now a days. Go to the core of Islam and the teachings of Rasullulah (saw) and how he did them. His mercy towards people. No one recognizes story of the Jew that Rasullulah (saw) was worried over even though that person was a Jew and would place trash on the doorstep of Rasullulah (saw). Unhiddentruth, this is a shoutout to you man. Islam is not about the hate that people might make you think and you need only to look into the life of Rasullulah (saw) to figure that out.

      Unhiddentruth, wasn't it your family member who went to AlMaghrib in NY? I'm surprised so to speak...

                Haneef, I know you're a fan of mine and enjoy talking to me but I am aware that half the time you already know the answers to your own questions and only like to prod. Frankly, I don't like to waste my time I never called you a non Muslim, man, chill out.

                UnhiddenTruth, there is nothing more beneficial that I could advise you with right now other than going to an AlMaghrib class and voiceing your concerns over there.

                As for Lewanaye, you only point towards extreme cases and this is the apparent problem as I pointed out earlier. Noone looks at the NORMS but the extreme cases which RARELY happen, and hardly happen now in any case. Obviously, there are methods of self defense, rules and regulations for the correcting of a citizen who is caught stealing, witness after witness for one who is accused of adultery, and guidelines for laying a finger on your wife only after extreme cases ofcourse. Now lets look at any other society, or amreeka, where regardless of their "education", "high techi-ness", and "modraan views of life" the problems of rape, domestic violence, theft, incest, and other horrid circumstances are fully blown. Their "western-ness" and PhD's did not help them and I believe it is safe to say, corrupted them even further in the name of so-called "freedom"

                    I am starting to doubt that the PHD scholar has a PHD.

                    You cant compare one country to another country and say one is better because of so and so. That is not the charteristics of a PHD scholar. You should be more curious into other reasons why one society is peacefull and another one is more violent. Historically the vast majority of wars were fought over aquiring resources for economic benifit. The PHD scholar should know that europe had a very violent past, the main reason it is peacefull today is because there are american troops there to keep the peace. Also europe and america are consuming most of the world's resources while people in other parts of the world(the violent parts) have hardly enought to eat.

                    The phd scholar should also know that if you go inside the developed industrialized society and look at all the violent areas, you will find that people in those areas are the poor ones. While the the Phd scholars that live in the rich areas speak highly of themselves and ridicule the poor by calling them barbarians and backward. Most peope would say that the true barbarians and truelly backward ones are the ones that lack compassion to share their wealth with the poor.

                    Take away their wealth and they will be just as barbaric and backward as anybody else on this planet.

                    Dont blame islam or any religion or any sect just because the system to resolve disputes has broken down in certain societies. Certain societies are taking more than their fair share of resources than other societies, dont blame them for lashing back because that is a natural response and certain people are going to lash back harder than others.

                    You can blame Islam, christianity, democracy, fasicm, nationalism or whatever, but in reality its all about economics. What is the fairest way to share the planets resources, answer that and convince the planet of it and you will receive every noble prize that is out there.

                    When you study Islam, all it does is it gives you inner peace with in oneself. What does Jihad mean? all it means is effort. Jihad is evil but we teach our children to make an effort for this and that and they mean exactly the same thing, how could you be a PHD scholar and not know how ilogical that is. Study the history of suicide terrorism, it has been utilized in many wars for hundreds of years, this is nothing new and it does not just exist in muslim societies, in fact it is new to muslim societies.

                    You are a PHD scholar, you must be more investigative and pursue many avenues in your approach to finding a conclusion and Im not saying my theory is right but it makes more sense.

                    One last thing I would like to add is a Quote from Socrates "to judge the level of civility in a society, one must look at how that society treats its prisoners"

                      Maybe others get your drift here, but I certainly don't. What's wrong with worshiping calves? Why should educated people like brain surgeons not worship calves but it's okay to worship a being we call God?

                      A truly intelligent person doesn't judge others by their preferences or forms of worship -- or their deities. Period. I call that arrogance. The exact same argument we use AGAINST people who don't worship the God we Muslims/theists think they should worship can be used against us by the ones we attack.

                        I haven't seen him worship a cow, as far as I can tell he proclaims the shahada and adheres to the tenants. On the other hand, if you have, please do let us know. Else go repent, take your shahada again.

                        You know if you were to really think about it, you worship a god closer to the hindus, because you are a wahabi/salafi and yo uhave given god Jism, he has a hand, fingers, maybe face, so you guys hvae made Allah sWT into some Ugly looking creature with a few human parts here and there, the rest are missing!

                        so now ask yourself, who worships a statue or statue like creature, the hindus? and the wahabis..
                        Funny how the pot calls the kettle black

                          a more proper question is whats wrong with not worshipping a calf, in other words list me reasons why anyone should worship a cow. God is not a being like a cow, God has 99 names, one of it is the al-alim, all knowing. Nothing exists without god, everything that exists is god. We dont have the capacity to understand such things. How do you measure the beginning and the end of time and space. infinity and negative infinity. What is the last number. if -1 is before zero than what is the first number. It boggles the mind.

                          Well if you worship a calf and then you see me eating a calf, there is going to be problems that is why people criticize others that worship calves.

                            AgnosticPashtana;

                            Weak argument. I said, All Religious countries are associated with violence. Take a look at Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestine, Israel. Let's compare Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to secular Norway or USA.
                            Which country did Afghanistan invade? Both Norway and the US sent troops to invade Iraq over false pretexts and intelligence "failure". Compare crime stats of Norway/US with Saudi (a religious nation), don't forget to take population in consideration. Your argument is weak.

                            Nope. But it was Religious extremists who decided to blow up bombs, kill innocent people, blow a plane in the trade center and I can go on.
                            Were religious people responsible for the Holocaust? What about Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Your argument is weak.

                            I am not here for flaming. Please refrain from such assumption. I am an open-minded woman and I hope to learn from you, just as much as I hope you can learn from me.
                            Excellent. Welcome.

                              unhiddentruth;

                              Many of Islamic ethics are universally accepted ethics. Morality doesn't stem from Religion like I said before. Each and every sect not only disagrees with one another but they also claim that the opposing sect is "Kaffir" or worse terms. In Iran, they don't even consider Sunnis as Muslims. They frown at them. In this board alone, If I were to make a thread saying I am a Shia, I would have many Mullahs attacking me and enlightening me about my kufr. A religion was created to control people. It was sort of an authority, that is why the Bible itself has stories that were taken from books before it.
                              I disagree that morality doesn't stem from "religion". Morals are customs, social norms, they are beliefs, just like religion. Islam claims to be a universal religion in sense that Mohammad was a messenger in a series of messengers from the one true God to humanity. That argument works in favor of Islam. The different sects in Islam are mostly in result of political or cultural differences where scripture and hadiths are twisted to correspond with the prevailing thought not the other way around. For example, those who wish to worship Ali (I'm not saying Shia do) will use the Quran to fit their thinking. Those who wish to worship saints, will do the same. Those who want to make takfir on others, or ban music, will do the same. That doesn't mean that the Quran or Islam condones such things. It's like people using science to disprove or prove God. Science is neither for or against God. It is a technique, a method, used to conduct research and achieve results. Though quite often, religious or irreligious people, paint science as anti-God or anti-religion.

                              Governments control the masses as well but its more clear-cut. A Religion threatens you about fairy tales of which you have no proof of.
                              Government also threatens you if you don't obey laws. Most of which are dictated by other men. Religion makes an extraordinary claim (true or not) that the punisher is the great creator of everything. While submitting to government created and functioned by men no greater then you is just silly. There is a reason for this submission, a sort of rational that we use to justify our bondage and servitude to these man made governments. What are those reasons? Hope you now understand the purpose.
