Don't know about liberals in Europe, but in the US it's the right-wingers who love Putin and Russia now. A lot of white supremacists see Russia as the last bastion of white/European culture (which is extremely stupid, because the official line in Russia is that they are culturally Asian, and Russia has tons of Muslims). American liberals haven't liked Russia even since Putin took over, since he basically redirected the country back towards a hard-line conservative policy approach, after being liberalized by the communists.

As for right-wing authoritarianism taking over in the West being the best for the world, I'm not sure I agree. What's best for the rest of the world is the West's power and influence falling. Actually West doesn't even exist. Its just a complex and sophisticated combination of political, social and economic theories such as liberal democracy, free markets, social liberalism, multiculturalism, individualism, rule of law, and so on. Countries such as South Korea or Japan are de facto and de iure Western. We shouldn't mix up the theoretical side of the West with its ethnic and cultural roots thats what people like Donald Trump, Le Pen or Bannon want to do: bring back the old West, not the current post-Fukuyaman West.
