If God Is Dead... – Patrick J. Buchanan - Official Website

    If God Is Dead…

    By Patrick J. Buchanan

In a recent column Dennis Prager made an acute observation.

“The vast majority of leading conservative writers … have a secular outlook on life. … They are unaware of the disaster that godlessness in the West has led to.”

These secular conservatives may think that “America can survive the death of God and religion,” writes Prager, but they are wrong.
And, indeed, the last half-century seems to bear him out.

A people’s religion, their faith, creates their culture, and their culture creates their civilization. And when faith dies, the culture dies, the civilization dies, and the people begin to die.

Is this not the recent history of the West?

Today, no great Western nation has a birthrate that will prevent the extinction of its native-born. By century’s end, other peoples and other cultures will have largely repopulated the Old Continent.

European Man seems destined to end like the 10 lost tribes of Israel — overrun, assimilated and disappeared.

And while the European peoples — Russians, Germans, Brits, Balts — shrink in number, the U.N. estimates that the population of Africa will double in 34 years to well over 2 billion people.

    What happened to the West?

As G. K. Chesterton wrote, when men cease to believe in God, they do not then believe in nothing, they believe in anything.

As European elites ceased to believe in Christianity, they began to convert to ideologies, to what Dr. Russell Kirk called “secular religions.”

For a time, these secular religions — Marxism-Leninism, fascism, Nazism — captured the hearts and minds of millions. But almost all were among the gods that failed in the 20th century.

Now Western Man embraces the newer religions: egalitarianism, democratism, capitalism, feminism, One Worldism, environmentalism.

These, too, give meaning to the lives of millions, but these, too, are inadequate substitutes for the faith that created the West.

For they lack what Christianity gave man — a cause not only to live for, and die for, but a moral code to live by, with the promise that, at the end a life so lived, would come eternal life. Islam, too, holds out that promise.

Secularism, however, has nothing on offer to match that hope.

Looking back over the centuries, we see what faith has meant.

When, after the fall of the Roman Empire, the West embraced Christianity as a faith superior to all others, as its founder was the Son of God, the West went on to create modern civilization, and then went out and conquered most of the known world.

The truths America has taught the world, of an inherent human dignity and worth, and inviolable human rights, are traceable to a Christianity that teaches that every person is a child of God.

Today, however, with Christianity virtually dead in Europe and slowly dying in America, Western culture grows debased and decadent, and Western civilization is in visible decline.

Rudyard Kipling prophesied all this in “Recessional”:

“Far-called our navies melt away; On dune and headland sinks the fire: Lo, all our pomp of yesterday/Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!”

All the Western empires are gone, and the children of once-subject peoples cross the Mediterranean to repopulate the mother countries, whose native-born have begun to age, shrink and die.

Since 1975, only two European nations, Muslim Albania and Iceland have maintained a birthrate sufficient to keep their peoples alive.

Given the shrinking populations inside Europe and the waves of immigrants rolling in from Africa and the Middle and Near East, an Islamic Europe seems to be in the cards before the end of the century.

Vladimir Putin, who witnessed the death of Marxism-Leninism up close, appears to understand the cruciality of Christianity to Mother Russia, and seeks to revive the Orthodox Church and write its moral code back into Russian law.

And what of America, “God’s country”?

With Christianity excommunicated from her schools and public life for two generations, and Old and New Testament teachings rejected as a basis of law, we have witnessed a startlingly steep social decline.

Since the 1960s, America has set new records for abortions, violent crimes, incarcerations, drug consumption. While HIV/AIDS did not appear until the 1980s, hundreds of thousands have perished from it, and millions now suffer from it and related diseases.

Forty percent of U.S. births are out of wedlock. For Hispanics, the illegitimacy rate is over 50 percent; for African-Americans, it’s over 70 percent.

Test scores of U.S. high school students fall annually and approach parity with Third World countries.
Suicide is a rising cause of death for middle-aged whites.

Secularism seems to have no answer to the question, “Why not?”

“How small, of all that human hearts endure, That part which laws or kings can cause or cure,” wrote Samuel Johnson.

Secular conservatives may have remedies for some of America’s maladies. But, as Johnson observed, no secular politics can cure the sickness of the soul of the West — a lost faith that appears irretrievable.

Ideologues are very very short sighted. They hardly stop to apply their supposed education that the flaunt over the religious huddled masses. Had they thought for a moment and realized that across cultures and historical times, even if one were to think about this in a purely secular and detached way, what we realize is that for whatever reason man has decided to adhere to some sort of control process that incorporates a belief in the supernatural or something above himself.

This may very well be because man has awesome destructive power and capability. He is able to drive species extinct (perhaps one day including his own when we think back to Hiroshima and Nagasaki) and completely alter landscapes and environments.

That thick cerebral cortex has given us this set of abilities to devastate and organize our surroundings and the notion of spiritual or religious oversight may have been developed to avoid conflict, discord, and chaotic unregulated behavior that could have very serious consequences in inter human relationships but also environmental human relationships.

For this reason, their desire to even use legal means to stamp out and impede religion has done nothing but create schisms, bloodshed, war making, and even more misery than what they heap onto the back of religion. This is because the greater conflict in the last century and this one has not just been between Islam, Christianity, and Judaism but fundamental religious strains that are reactionary movements created in response to these militant secularists who want to impose Utopian ideas onto partially agrarian and rural based societies.

In their "I know what is better for you and you better take your medicine" fashion, these crypto minority atheists and secular militants have caused massive amounts of discord and blood shed world round without taking a moment to understand the collective human history and the reasons for why religion may have existed as Mr. Buchanon details above... That is, religion whether correct or not may have been itself an appropriate biological response for this creature with a higher level cerebral cortex capable of taking us into outer space but also capable of developing nuclear armaments.

Such a self control mechanism cannot simply be ripped away from society without consequences if what replaces it is a Frankenstein Hodgepodge of stupid ideas which in turn spawn the mother lode of stupid ideas (i.e. enforced secular militancy at the barrel end of a gun)

The thread was to highlight blind faith. Just like how you know that Hinduism, Christianity, etc. are false beliefs, I extend the same opinion to Islam.

The video I linked shows how there was a guy (Karl) who made wild claims without giving proof and people just blindly trusted him because he claimed to be the messenger of God (Hank). Similarly, Muhammad made wild claims (riding Buraq to heaven, meeting angels, splitting the moon) and people blindly trusted him without giving proof because he claimed to be the messenger of God.

A people’s religion, their faith, creates their culture, and their culture creates their civilization. And when faith dies, the culture dies, the civilization dies, and the people begin to die.
Basically, the nonsense that Pat Buchanan spouted here is "Follow any religion, just don't become irreligious. Follow a religion where head-hunting is promoted as long as you're not an atheist because atheists aren't in touch with civilization/culture".

Lol, they are not a reaction to militant secularism but created by half delusional and half power hungry dictator wannabes to control the masses (in the case of Islam at least).

Well the Hank Video is moronic because it's more a reflection of juvenile Millennial temperament than deep anthropological insight and nuanced understanding. ....but honestly who cares? You'll always have detractors and nay sayers. The best way to shut them up is show the efficacy of your way of thought.

There's a common Internet Atheist phrase

"The Internet, Where Religions come to Die'

But this "death" is more applicable to Atheism, look at everything happening within the Atheism community these days? They're squabbling over ridiculous battles about Which pronoun to use with Transgenders or Or Trigger Warnings or whether Whistling at a woman is a form of rape. LOL

"The Cult of Hank" is just a smoke screen for their own internal social disintegration.

I don't see Atheists as bad people, but on the whole, they lack a back bone, they stand for very little except being contrarian. they lack order , balance, symmetry, firmness, roots, dynamics or overarching unifying principles that really define them. All the things that Anthropology has shown religion has established and laid the foundations for civilization and culture.

This is why a person of a religion, yes ANY Religion, even some Cannibalistic, Head Hunting religion, will have an advantage over Atheists, because they have at least some type of over arching hypothesis that fashions their existential cosmology into something cogent.

Even the name A-Theist, it's not actually a belief in anything, it's a lack of belief, the central idea of Atheism, is lacking.......lacking direction in essence, no framework, no compass....Atheism is synonymous with emotional anarchy.

But one thing is certain that Atheism burgeons primarily when people have things too comfy,, when they're reared in a largely pampered environment, they feel directionless and it makes them feel a lack of anything meaningful in their lives. if you want to combat them, the best thing to do is to use their own squabbles and internal narrative against them.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

a pampered environment decreases survival instincts and is less challenging. The need to have hope and beliefs seems irrational in such an environment since everything is provided in abundance. Sarbani is convinced that it is atheism that has brought the comfy environment instead of the other way around.

So just call it juvenile without saying how its fundamentally different to Islam?

But this "death" is more applicable to Atheism, look at everything happening within the Atheism community these days? They're squabbling over ridiculous battles about Which pronoun to use with Transgenders or Or Trigger Warnings or whether Whistling at a woman is a form of rape. LOL
Those are only a couple White Western right-wing males with a complex. Their actions have nothing to do with atheism. And atheism is doing nothing but growing (in terms of converts).

"The Cult of Hank" is just a smoke screen for their own internal social disintegration.
Nah, it just shows how much of a joke Islam is. Assuming you've watched the video, until you can prove how Muhammad is different from Karl and Allah is different from Hank, you do not have an argument.

Non-religious secular countries are doing pretty well though.

See above. You have no proof for these statements.

Even the name A-Theist, it's not actually a belief in anything, it's a lack of belief
            Yes.

the central idea of Atheism, is lacking.......lacking direction in essence, no framework, no compass....Atheism is synonymous with emotional anarchy.
No, its being a free thinker.

Looks I put an Atheist on the defensive. .......uh oh. Another thing about Atheists, is their sense of confidence is easily disturbed

Which actually alludes to another salient observation; that most Atheists of Third World background have an underlying inferiority complex that motivates their Atheism.. It's all more or less a Third World inadequacy syndrome. They want to march in Lockstep with Europeans to feel acceptance.

                You nailed it.

That's why they say "There's no Atheists in fox-holes". ....it's not meant to be taken literally,. but the point of the phrase is, Atheism only has a positon to germinate when life is convenient. People have things TOO easy, they become lazy and lose any genuine sense of purpose.

so isnt that the other way around, when people have it rough they create a god to have something to belive in and thinking someone out there is watching and helping them? So atheism and theism are just two faces of the same coin?

Ad hominem, great rebuttal. You definitely addressed all my points and sure showed me

Also, you do realize that atheism isn't a European exclusive thing?

So the only reason people become atheist is out of laziness? Lol.

And what about the people that realize Islam is nonsense and convert to another religion?

Just keep telling yourself that you're a mindless robot incapable of morals and reasoning and that you need an alpha to tell you what to do without questioning him once.
