If you're not Sufi than what are you? Because you're grandfather was Sufi.

I come from a Sunni Muslim family that follows Imam Abu Hanifa school of thought.

    who is Ibn Haytham ?

Sufi are SUNNI Muslims, Sufis are just Sunni Muslims that practice Mysticism and Meditation. They're not a special sect.

      We're also Hanafi.

Ibn Haytham is the Father of Modern Optics

Ah yes, I briefly heard about this guy. "The First Scientist guy"
I don't know much about his doctrine.

So what makes you Sufi then?

You just said your grandfather was apart of the Qadiri Order in Afghanistan.
              meaning he was sufi.
Did you renounce then? Or are suffi like Hamza Yusuf clan?

No, in Sufism, you have to be initiated or make Ba'yah I never was initiated, I have no interest to be initiated since it requires a great deal of dedication and sacrifice.

are you familiar with Maulana Ataullah Faizani? He was a Student under the same Pir as my grandfather.

But you follow Sufi teachings & philosophy. Isn't that enough for you to be considered Sufi?
Why do you need to be initiated?

No, I am not familiar with him.

I don't really follow it either, I use it more as a different way of looking at the world. It's more of a conceptual framework than something I "do"

In Sufism, initiation happens so that you understand that you have now taken an oath to "walk the path" and that you won't misuse your knowledge for worldly gain etc. etc.

But how can you be a Sunni Hanafi muslim if you don't reject it?
Or do you follow your own unique brand?

You're mixing up different concepts. Sunni refers to the 'aqidah, Hanafi refers to a specific Legal School, Qadiri refers to a specific kind of Sufi Path.

Hence you can be "all" these things at once, they're just different aspects of one's focus

I don't really "reject" it, I just keep an open mind about things and go by what makes sense to me or appeals to me most.

Like this Khostai guy, he will never be able to go to Khost and talk the same BS that he does online, he is a non-Muslim a disrespectful blasphemer and will get his face smashed in. It's reality, we're hot headed people by nature.
So it was only Pashtuns that killed the multiple cartoonists? Don't be delusional. Simply leaving Islam without blaspheming the religion is enough to get you kicked out of your family's circle and even killed in a couple extreme cases.

I don't think what he wrote has anything to do with it being "only Pashtuns" But yes, quiet apostasy, will not get you messed with.

I agree hiding from killers will help you live longer.

                              • I would very much like an Atheist section to be open on this forum.
Don't why there is so much people opposing it.
