    Prophet Musa alay salam (Moses)

The Early Years of Prophet Musa:

The ruler of Egypt, the pharoah, discriminated against the people of Israel. He oppressed them and killed all their sons. When Musa (alayhis Salam) was born, his mother feared that he too would be killed.*Allah*sent a message to her to nurse him as long as she could, until she feared for his safety. Then she was to throw him into the river. Allah promised that He would bring Musa (alayhis Salam) back to her and that Musa would become a*messenger*of Allah.

It was the family of the pharoah who found Musa (alayhis Salam) in the river. The pharoah’s wife wanted to keep him and ordered that he not be killed. She thought he might be useful to them or that they might adopt him.

Meanwhile, Musa’s mother had sent his sister to keep watch over him from a distance. When the pharoah’s wife was looking for a nurse to feed and care for him until he grew older, the sister approached and offered the services of her mother, without, of course, revealing her mother’s real connection to the child. In this way he was restored to his mother, as Allah had promised. And when Musa (alayhis Salam) grew up, he was given wisdom and*knowledge*by Allah.

One day, when Musa (alayhis Salam) had grown up, he went into the city and found two men fighting, one of whom was an Egyptian, and the other an Israelite. The Israelite asked Musa (alayhis Salam) for help and Musa (alayhis Salam) struck the other man with his fist, thus killing him. Musa (alayhis Salam) was horrified that he had killed a man, and asked Allah for forgiveness, which Allah granted.

The following day Musa (alayhis Salam) again was in the city, when he saw the same man as on the day before, involved in a fight with an Egyptian. Musa (alayhis Salam) was angry at the hotheadedness of this man, but was once again ready to take his side against the Egyptian, who was the enemy of them both. But the Egyptian cried out to Musa (alayhis Salam) that murder was not the way to settle and reform matters. At that moment another man brought news that the authorities were searching for Musa (alayhis Salam) in connection with the murder of the previous day. And so Musa (alayhis Salam) was forced to flee.

Musa (alayhis Salam) escaped to the land of Madyan. There he came to a watering hole where a whole tribe of men were watering their flocks. There were two women there also whose father was too old to care for his flocks himself. But the women were holding their sheep back and could not get close to the water until the men had finished. Musa watered their flocks for them, then settled down in the shade, praying that Allah would send him assistance.

One of the two women whom Musa (alayhis Salam) had helped approached him shyly, for her father had sent for Musa (alayhis Salam) to reward him for helping his daughters. When Musa (alayhis Salam) had told the old man his story, the old man sympathized with him. The old man offered to marry Musa (alayhis Salam) to one of his daughters if Musa would work for him a minimum of eight years. An agreement was reached and Musa (alayhis Salam) stayed in the land of Madyan for the agreed-upon time.

This part of the story of Musa can be found in al-Qur’an 28:1-28.

The story continues, some time after prophet Musa as had completed his contract with his father-in-law. He was traveling somewhere with his family when he saw a fire in the distance. He went to explore in the hope that he might get information or be able to bring back a firebrand for his family to use.

When Prophet Musa approached the bush that was burning, he heard a voice coming from it. The voice commanded Prophet Musa to remove his shoes because he was in a sacred valley. The voice identified itself as Allah, and reminded Prophet Musa to serve Him and to keep up his prayers. The voice told Prophet Musa that Allah had made him one of the chosen ones.

Allah then ordered Prophet Musa as to throw down his staff, which he used as a walking stick and to beat down branches for his flocks. When the staff was flung down, it turned into a serpent. Allah instructed Prophet Musa to pick the serpent up, and it again turned into a stick. The voice commanded Prophet Musa as to thrust his hand under his armpit, and when he removed it the hand was glowing white, yet it did not hurt Prophet Musa as. Allah informed Prophet Musa as that these two signs, the staff and the hand, would be signs for the Pharoah, to show that Prophet Musa had truly been sent from Allah. Allah wanted Prophet Musa as to go to the Pharoah because the Pharoah and his people had strayed far from the acceptable ways of Allah. He also wanted Prophet Musa as to lead the children of Israel away from the Pharoah’s influence.

Prophet Musa as pointed out that he had killed an Egyptian and that he himself would be killed if he returned to Egypt. He was also unsure of his ability to communicate with the Pharoah. He was not a good speaker and asked for the help of his brother, Harun , who was much more eloquent. Allah reassured Prophet Musa as on both counts. He promised that Prophet Musa would come to no harm at the hands of the Egyptians. And He agreed both to aid Prophet Musa in addressing the Pharoah and to send along Harun to help out.

In this manner Prophet Musa as was called to prophethood, and set out to free the people of Israel from their bondage under the people of Egypt. Insha Allah in the next issue we shall tell of his meetings with the Pharoah.

You can read about this part of the story of Musa as in the Quran 20:9-36, 42-48; 26:10-17; and 28:29-35.

Prophet Musa as ,Haroon as and Firaon/Pharoah of egypt.

Prophet Musa as ad his brother Harun as had been called upon by Allah to deliver a message to the leader of the Egyptians, Fir’awn (Pharaoh), who considered himself a god and insisted that his subjects worship him.

Prophet Musa as told Fir’awn that he, Musa, was a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds and that he had clear proof of it. Therefore, Fir’awn should let the people of Israel go with him. Prophet Musa as showed Fir’awn the staff that turned into a serpent and the hand which turned shining white when placed under his arm. Fir’awn consulted with all his chiefs and they decided that perhaps Musa as was just a very good magician. They called together all their best magicians to compete with Prophet Musa as. The magicians were promised a reward if they won.

The magicians went first in the contest and they were good, really good. They made their ropes and sticks appear to run in front of their audience. Prophet Musa as was afraid that he couldn’t surpass their skills, but Allah told him not to be afraid. When Prophet Musa threw down his staff, it ate up all that the magicians had made. When the magicians saw this, they bowed down and proclaimed their belief in the Lord of Prophet Musa as and Harun as.

Fir’awn was not very happy about this turn of events. He threatened to cut off the hands and feet of the magicians and to crucify them. But the magicians would not change their opinion. They were convinced by the clear proofs which Prophet Musa as had shown to them and they told Fir’awn that he could only end for them their life in this world. For those who believe there would be another life after death, in gardens beneath which rivers flow.

Following this there began another period of persecution against the followers of Allah. Fir’awn had all of their sons killed. Prophet Musa as had to encourage the children of Israel to continue strong in their belief in Allah and to pray to Allah faithfully.

Whenever good fortune befell the Egyptians, they took credit for it. When misfortune came, they blamed Prophet Musa as and his people.
They failed to see that everything, both good and bad, comes from Allah. Allah sent all kinds of hardships against the Egyptians- famine, loss of fruits, floods, locusts, pests, frogs, and blood- as signs to them. They would promise to free the people of Israel if Musa would pray to his God for deliverance from the pestilence. But as soon as the hardship had been removed, they would go back on their promise.

Finally Prophet Musa as was instructed by Allah to lead the followers of Allah away by night. When they came to the sea, the waters parted so that they could pass to the other side without getting wet. However, when Fir’awn and his armies pursued them, the waters of the sea closed in on them and they were all drowned. In this way did Allah punish Fir’awn for leading his people away from Allah.

Insha Allah in the next issue we shall relate the conclusion of the story of Musa as , when we tell what befell the children of Israel after they left Egypt. You can read about Musa and Fir’awn in al-Quran 7:103-137; 20:49-79; 26:16-67; and 43:46-56.

Prophet Musa as,Haroon as and children of israel.

When prophet Musa (alayhis salam) and his people fled from the Egyptians, their trials were far from over. After they had safely crossed the sea, they came upon some people who were worshiping idols. The children of Israel asked Prophet Musa (alayhis salam)*to make an idol for them, and he had to remind them of all that Allah had done for them. How could he make another god for them when their Allah was the only true god?

Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) was summoned by Allah to Mount Sinai and he put his brother Harun(alayhis salam) in charge while he was gone. When he arrived at the appointed site, he asked to see Allah. Allah said He could not show Himself directly to Prophet Musa (alayhis salam), but Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) should look towards the mountain, and if the mountain remained in one piece, then Musa would see Allah. When Allah showed His glory on the mountain, it became like dust, and Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) fell down in a faint. When he had recovered his senses, he asked Allah’s forgiveness and declared his unquestioning belief in Allah. Then Allah spoke with Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) and gave him tablets containing His commands and explaining all things. Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) was to carry the tablets back to his people and convey to them the words of Allah. He spent forty days on the mount, communing with his Lord.

Meanwhile, the people of Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) gathered together all their jewelry and gold which they had carried from Egypt. They melted it down and made it into the form of a calf, which they wished to worship. When Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) returned from the mountain with his tablets, he was angry and grieved to see the golden calf. Thinking that Harun (alayhis salam) had approved the actions of the Israelites, an angry Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) grabbed his brother by the hair and dragged Harun towards him. Harun hastily explained that the people had not listened to him and had even threatened to kill him when he opposed their activities. At this Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) prayed to Allah for forgiveness for both himself and his brother. He also prayed for mercy for those who repented of their evil deed in making the golden idol.

The ultimate destination of the people of Israel was the land of Canaan. Continuously they rebelled against Allah, and continuously Allah forgave them. When they were thirsty, Allah commanded Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) to strike a rock and from it sprang twelve springs of water, one for each of the tribes of Israel. When they were hot, Allah provided clouds to cover the sun. When they were hungry, Allah provided manna and salwa. Yet they were never grateful. They even complained about the sameness of the diet and asked for more variety.

At last they came to the land of Canaan. But because the people of Canaan were very strong-looking, the Israelites were afraid to invade their land. There were only two men who were willing to join Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) and Harun (alayhis salam) in an attempt to drive the Canaanites out. They counseled that if the proper gates were attacked, they could easily gain entrance. And once they were inside, they would easily be victorious if only they would put their trust in Allah. But the people of Israel would not budge. They told Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) and Harun (alayhis salam) to go with their Lord and fight, while they, the people, would sit and watch. At this Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) gave up trying to persuade his rebellious people. And Allah decreed that because of their behavior, the children of Israel would be condemned to wander in the wilderness for forty more years, before they would be allowed to enter the land of Canaan.

You can read about the story of Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) and his people in the wilderness in al-Quran 2: 51-61; 5: 23-29; 7: 138-162; and 20: 80-98.

Prophet Daud as (david) and Suleiman as (Solomon)

Dawood (alayhis salam) and his son, Sulaiman (alayhis salam) were not only prophets, but also kings of the people of Israel. They were both known for their strength, wisdom, judgement, and devotion to*Allah.

Before Dawood (alayhis salam) became king, Talut (Saul) was the king of Israel. When he set out with his army to fight Jalut (Goliath) and his forces, he tested his soldiers by telling them not to drink from a river which they were crossing. Only a small sip of water out of the hand was allowed. But only a very few men passed the test. With that small band of obedient soldiers, Talut prepared to meet the larger and stronger army of Jalut. The men put their faith in Allah, knowing that size and numbers were no match for a steadfast faith in the*power of Allah. Dawood , who was a very young man in Talut’s army, killed Jalut. After that, Jalut’s army fell apart, and the small band of Israelites was victorious.

Dawood (alayhis salam)*, besides being brave and wise, was known for his wonderful voice, which he used to sing the praises of Allah. When he sang, the mountains and valleys and all of nature seemed to join in. It was to him that the holy book, Zabur, was given by Allah. It is a book of songs praising Allah.

Allah also showed Dawood (alayhis salam)*the art of making iron, so that he was able to make suits of armor to protect his soldiers.

The*prophet Muhammad*صلى الله عليه وسلم used to say, according to the traditions of Sahih al-Bukhari (Vol. 4: 631), that the most beloved fasting to Allah was that of Dawood (alayhis salam), who used to fast on alternate days. And the most beloved*prayer*was that of Dawood (alayhis salam). He would sleep the first half of the night; then he would pray for one-third of the night, before going back to sleep for the remaining one-sixth of the night.

Dawood (alayhis salam) was a wise and just judge of disputes which arose in his kingdom, but his son Prophet Sulaiman (alayhis salam) surpassed him in the ability to provide a fair judgement.

In one tradition (Bukhari, Vol.4; 637), there were two women, each of whom had a child. One child was stolen and devoured by a wolf. Each woman claimed that it was the other woman’s child who was taken. They brought the case to Dawood (alayhis salam) and he judged that the older woman should have the remaining child. Then they went to Prophet Sulaiman (alayhis salam). He called for a knife, so that he could cut the child in half and give half to each woman. But the younger woman, who could not bear to see her child cut in half, cried out that the child belonged to the other woman. Prophet Sulaiman (alayhis salam)*then gave the child to the younger woman.

In another story, referred to in the Quran (21: 78) a man’s flock of sheep strayed into a farmer’s field at night, destroying the crops that had been growing there. The case was brought before Dawood (alayhis salam), who awarded the flock of sheep to the farmer as restitution for damages. But Prophet Sulaiman (alayhis salam) suggested another solution, which would repay the farmer without ruining the herdsman. Prophet Sulaiman ruled that the farmer would keep the sheep and use their milk and wool, until the herdsman had restored the damaged field to its original condition. When that had been done, the flock would be returned to the herdsman.

Both Dawood (alayhis salam) and Sulaiman (alayhis salam), although powerful and rich, never ceased to acknowledge that all their gifts were from Allah. They remained obedient to Allah and used their power to follow Allah’s will.

You can read about Dawood (alayhis salam) and Sulaiman (alayhis salam) in the Quran 2:249-251; 21: 78-82; 34: 10-14; 38: 17-26, 30-40.

                Dawood (a.s.) in Taloot's army:

The few who were left in Taloot's army stood and faced the Palestinians, who were priding themselves on Jaloot, their strong leader. Once war commenced, Jaloot marched onto the battlefield and challenged the Bani Israel. But due to his awe and terror, none in the Bani Israel had the courage to face him. There was a young boy in Taloot's group, Dawood (a.s.) who was accompanying his three brothers. Dawood (a.s.) did not come with the intention of participating in the battle. Rather he had been sent by his father along with his brothers so that he would inform him about their victory at the earliest.Dawood (a.s.) was appointed as a Prophet among the Bani Israel after Shamueel (a.s.). Dawood (a.s.) asked one person, 'If someone vanquishes Jaloot, how will the king reward him?' The man replied, 'Apart from bestowing him with innumerable gifts, the king will give him his daughter's hand. His family will be honoured and respected.'

Until that day, Dawood (a.s.) had never participated in a battle and in fact, had no exposure whatsoever to warfare. However, he still approached the king and expressed his desire to fight Jaloot. Taloot refused to grant him permission and informed him of Jaloot's strength compared to his own weakness. But Dawood (a.s.) replied fearlessly, 'I think of myself capable of fighting this war. Just a few days ago a lion had attacked the Rock of sheep of my father but I countered it and killed it.' The king made Dawood (a.s.) wear the armour and sent him to the battlefield.Dawood (a.s.) felt uneasy in the armour and he removed it and went to battle Jaloot unarmed. He did not have any weapon with him except five stones, which he had picked in the jungle, a small stick and a sling.

After arriving in the battlefield, he loaded a stone in his sling, aimed it at Jaloot and flung it at him, taking Allah's name. The stone hit Jaloot on the forehead and Jaloot fell on the ground. Dawoood (a.s.) advanced towards Jaloot and severed his head from his body. He carried the head to Taloot. When Jaloot's soldiers saw this sight, their hopes were frustrated and they all fled.

As per his promise, Taloot married his daughter to Dawood (a.s.) and appointed him the commander of his army. Gradually the discussion of Dawood's (a.s.) greatness and excellence increased among the people. With these discussions, love and affection for him increased manifold in the hearts of the people.

Miracles*of Dawood (a.s.) Allah bestowed numerous favours on Dawood (a.s.) in addition to the kingdom. Apart from prophethood, knowledge, kingdom and a divine book like 'Zaboor', he was also blessed with a good voice. When he was engaged in Allah's worship, the birds of the mountains and forests rushed towards him and joined him in divine remembrance in their own language. Even the mountains prayed along with him.

Dawood's (a.s.) miracles mentioned in the Holy Quran are:

The mountain glorified Allah, the Almighty, along with him.
The birds too glorified Allah along with him.
Allah made iron soft as wax for him, without any furnace and tools. Allah bestowed upon him the knowledge of constructing the armour. In fact, the armour was invented by him.
Allah granted him a huge, stable and secure kingdom.
Allah granted him the Zaboor, which he recited with pleasant recitation. In this manner he invited the people towards Allah.
(These miracles are explained in Surah e Yunus (Sura no. 10) and Surae Hud (Sura no. 11))

                    Dawood's (a.s.) wailing and worship.
Dawood (a.s.) used to fast very frequently. To the extent that all his life, he fasted on one day and ate the next day. Some traditions quote the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) ,Dawood (a.s.) grieved and wailed out of Allah's fear in such a way that it was as if two streams (of tears) were continuously flowing forth from his eyes. Others traditions state that the vegetation and plants would turn green on being watered continuously by his tears.
(Qasasul Quran by Hashim Rasooli vol. 2).

How black magic started in Babylon – The history and story of Harut, Marut, Prophet Sulaiman as, and the devils:

The events in this post are based on two Quranic verses of Surah Al-Baqara and Ibn Kathir’s writings.
Harut and Marut (mentioned in the Quran in Surah Al-Baqarah) were two angels who are known to be behind bringing black magic to this world. Quran clarifies the misunderstanding related to their role. They are mentioned in connection with the events that took place during the time of Prophet Solomon / Sulaiman (alaihis salam) the wise prophet and king, who came after Prophet Moses / Musa (alaihis salam). Allah’s revelation in the Quran about Sulaiman (alaihis salam) also clears the misconceptions that the Jews had about him that he was “just a sorcerer or idolator who was carried by the wind.”

                      Prophet Sulaiman’s powers:

Allah had bestowed Prophet Sulaiman (alaihis salam) with certain powers over mankind, Jinn and all other living creatures. Satan wanted to deprive him of this power. One day, as it was his practice, before going to answer the call of nature, Sulaiman (alaihis salam) gave his ring to a woman called Al-Jaradah. Satan took advantage of this opportunity, came in the form of Sulaiman, and took the ring from her and put the ring on. As Allah had decreed to bless the holder of the ring to have many powers, much mankind, the jinn and all devils submitted to Satan. Later, when Sulaiman came seeking his ring from the woman, she accused him of being an imposter. Prophet Sulaiman endured this with patience as he knew that this was a test from Allah the Almighty.

How black magic and fortunetelling became widespread?

With Satan having new powers, the devils were now free to do whatever they wished. It was at this time that they wrote books of black magic and buried them underneath the throne of Prophet Sulaiman (alaihis salam). Black magic and fortune telling came to the earth through these devils who (after having the new powers) would eavesdrop on the descending angels about matters decreed in the Heavens. The devils would then come down to inspire the soothsayers with it, and the latter would add to it many lies of their own. People would then believe them and regard them as trustworthy. The people started writing down these matters and the word spread among the Children of Israel that the Jinn knew the unseen.

Later, when Allah restored to Prophet Sulaiman (alaihis salam) his kingdom, and all those who had strayed away came to follow the straight path once again, Allah the Almighty informed Sulaiman (alaihis salam) about the magic that had become commonplace among his people. This then drove Sulaiman to quickly seize and gather all these writings and put them in a chest and bury them under his throne. All the devils who tried to even approach the chest were burned alive. Prophet Sulaiman took an even harder stance declaring that he would behead anyone who claimed that the devils knew the unseen.

Asif was Sulaiman’s scribe. He knew the Greatest Name of Allah and used to write what he was ordered to by Sulaiman and then bury it underneath the throne. After Sulaiman’s death, a devil came in the form of a human being to the people and said: “I will lead you to an everlasting treasure that will never run out.” He was referring to the writings of Prophet Sulaiman that were buried under the chest. The Satan led the people to dig under Sulaiman’s throne. To provide credibility to his word he also offered to be killed if he was not correct in his claims. After the people dug out all the writings, the devil told them that it was these writings that had given Prophet Sulaiman power over mankind, the Jinn and the birds. The devils altered these books by adding magical and blasphemous writings. The devils wrote about different types of sorcery meant to fulfill different desires.

For example, the devils wrote about how people could get some wishes fulfilled by standing facing the sun and saying some words, and how they could get other wishes fulfilled by standing with their back to the sun and repeating some other words. They wrote this in a book and sealed it with a ring bearing the inscription found on Sulaiman’s ring and titled it with: “This is what has been written by Asif Ibn Barkhiya by the order of King Sulaiman Ibn Dawud: from the treasures of knowledge.” Then, they buried it under Sulaiman’s throne.

It was rumored and circulated that Sulaiman had been a sorcerer. Satan established himself as an orator and said: “O people! Sulaiman was not a prophet; he was only a sorcerer! Go and seek his sorcery in his dwellings and luggage.” And he led them to the buried “treasure”. The people said: “By Allah! Sulaiman was a sorcerer who subjected us through his magic.” But the believers from among them said: “Nay, he was a faithful Prophet.”

Quran’s verses and explanation on the reality of black magic

During Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.S.) time, the Jews kept these writings and disputed the prophet (s) regarding them. They would ask Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.S.) about matters from the Torah. They said: “Muhammad confounds the truth with falsehood: he puts Sulaiman with the prophets while he was just a sorcerer who was carried by the wind.” When they asked him about sorcery, Allah the Almighty revealed to the prophet (s) the following verses:

"They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Harut and Marut, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, “We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us).” And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah’s Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew.
                      · And if they had believed, and guarded themselves from evil and kept their duty to Allah, far better would have been the reward from their Lord, if they but knew!"

                      Quran (Surah Al-Baqara, Verses 102-103)

Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.S) informed the Jews of this narration and they left defeated and humiliated. Regarding the angels Harut and Marut mentioned in the verses, Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) elaborated that: “The angels Harut and Marut used to warn anyone who came to them to learn magic and would say to him:“We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us.They knew what is good, what is bad, what is belief and what is disbelief and thus they knew that magic was associated with disbelief.Ibn ‘Abbas continued: “However, if they could not dissuade the person, they would tell him to go to a particular place to learn magic."

                      Allah the Almighty says:

“…And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife,…”(Al-Baqarah, 2:102).

i.e., the people learned from Harut and Marut the magic by which they would cause separation between man and his wife though the man and wife might have affinity and affection for each other. Separation between them is caused by the cunning of the devils as transmitted in Imam Muslim’s Sahih from the Hadith narrated by Jabir Ibn ‘Abdullah as said by the Prophet (S.A.W.S.):“Iblis places his throne upon water; he then sends detachments (for creating dissension); the nearer to him in rank are those who are most notorious in creating dissension. One of them comes and says: “I did so and so.” And he says: “You have done nothing.” Then one amongst them comes and says: “I did not spare so and so until I sowed the seed of discord between a husband and a wife.” Satan goes near him and says: “You have done well.” Al-A’mash said: “He then embraces him.”

The dissension between a husband and wife can be created through magic by the devil making each of them imagine something bad — a view, or manner, etc. – about the other. Allah the Almighty says:

“But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah’s Leave”(Al-Baqarah, 2:102).

The lesson from the story is that magic is for real and Allah has provided Satan certain powers to harm mankind, especially those who believe in Allah and His message of truth. To prevent us from Satan’s plans and mischief, Allah has also provided us with many verses and adhkar that we can find in the Quran and Hadith. We should, therefore, be regular in reciting those Azkar to avoid getting in the traps of Satan all satanic activities.

Prophet Suleiman (a.s) and the hoopoe bird(Hud hud)

Prophet Suleiman (a.s) had a very large army of men, jinn and birds. One day, he was checking the army. “And he looked amongst the birds and he said: “Why can’t I see the hoopoe bird or is he absent?” (Sura Naml, Verse 20)
hoopoe bird has the duty of searching for water when the army needed*it.On*that day, it had left without asking for permission to do so and Prophet Suleiman (a.s) decided to punish it if it came back without a good excuse for its absence.
When the bird came back, it explained to Prophet Suleiman (a.s) what it had seen: “… I come to you from Sheba with sure news. I found a woman ruling over the people, she has been given many blessings and has a mighty throne! I found her and her people worshipping the sun instead of Allah…” (Sura Naml, Verses 22-24).
When Prophet Suleiman (a.s) heard about Queen Bilqis and her city in Yemen, he was very surprised and decided to find out if what the bird had said was true.
He wrote a letter to her asking her and her people to accept Allah (S. W.T) as their God and to stop worshipping the sun. Then he sent the hoopoe bird to take the letter to the Queen and see what her answer was.
When Bilqis read it, she did not know what to do and asked her ministers for advice. Her commanders told her that they were willing to follow her decision.
Queen Bilqis knew that an ordinary king would be greedy for power and try to take over her land. She decided to test Prophet Suleiman (a.s) to see if he was a true prophet of Allah (S.W.T) or if he just wanted her wealth.
She sent a group of men with gifts of gold, silver and other treasures to Suleiman (a.s) as a gift from her. When Prophet Suleiman (a.s) saw all this, he said: “What? Will you try to help me with wealth? What Allah has given me is better than what He has given you and your gifts look valuable to your eyes (not mine).” (Sura Naml, Verses 36-37)
The envoy returned with all their gifts to Sheba and told Queen Bilqis all the wonders that they had seen and heard.
When Bilqis heard of the grand kingdom of Ptaphet Suleiman (a.s), she realised that he was a prophet of Allah (S.W.T) who had been granted such great powers by Him.
She decided to go to him and see his kingdom for herself. When Prophet Suleiman (a.s) heard of her intentions, he wanted to show her some of the favours Allah (S.W.T) had given him, so that she would believe and accept one God.
He said: “O Chiefs! Which of you will bring me her throne before she arrives?” (Sura Maml. Verse 38)
One of the Jinn offered to do it before Prophet Suleiman (a.s) stood up from his throne, but one of his ministers, Asef Ben Barkhia said: “I will bring it to you in the blink of an eye!” (Sura Naml, Verse 40)
Queen Bilqis’s throne appeared infront of Prophet Suleiman (a.s) before he opened his eyes, even though the distance between the two kingdoms was great as Bilqis ruled over Yemen and he ruled over Palestine.
Prophet Suleiman (a.s) thanked Allah (S.W.T) when he saw this! He then ordered that a palace should be built whose floor was made of clear glass. The floor itself was to be laid over a large pool of water, so that when a person walked over it, it looked like he was walking on water!
When Queen Bilqis arrived, he welcomed her into this palace. As she entered the huge doors, she saw the floor and assumed it was water. Gently lifting her skirt so that it would not get wet, she put out her foot to step into the wondrous room.
Prophet Suleiman (a.s) saw this and smiled. He told her she did not need to do such a thing and explained that the floor was made of glass and it only seemed that the water was on it.
Queen Bilqis was a clever woman and as soon as she heard this, she realised the lesson he was trying to teach her. She understood that she had been mistaken in worshipping the sun when there was a Being who could not be seen but who was much greater than the sun – Allah (S.W.T)! Immediately asking for forgiveness, she surrendered to Allah (S.W.T) saying:”I surrender with Suleiman to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.”(Surd Naml, Verse 44)

                          PROPHET SULEIMAN:

Prophet Suleiman is known as "Suleiman the Wise" because Allah Almighty gave him special powers. His wisdom which showed at an early age was highly admired.

Suleiman as, the son of Prophet Dawood as, was born in Palestine. His father was the Prophet and the Ruler of that area.During Prophet Dawood's reign the kingdom flourished and the people were very content.

Suleiman was unique in that he had a special upbringing. He was raised in the household of a Prophet who was the Ruler of a thriving nation. He was endowed with an exceptional mind and a keen sense of observation.Allah gave him the Hidaaya, meaning special spiritual care and guidance.

                          WHAT DID SULEIMAN OBSERVE?

Suleiman as had often watched his father, Dawood as hold court—his father would sit on his throne.Dignitaries of high level respectfully stood offering suggestions or discussing matters of importance with the king.

Suleiman as had a very keen mind. He recognized that Dawood's as people were pleased with the rule and highly satisfied with his father's decisions. This was true not only in the court,

but also in the streets of the towns.Suleiman understood that the people's happiness was because his father was extremely fair in his judgment, the way only a Prophet can be.

                          AN EXAMPLE OF HIS OBSERVATION.

It was a special day for Suleiman as (Solomon). He was about eleven years old and present in the court of his father. Suleiman as was standing at a distance as the court proceeded as usual.

Two people, very angry with each other, came to the court for a judgment. One of the two was a farmer who worked hard growing crops on his land. The crops were maturing and harvest time was soon approaching and to his dread this farmer discovered a large flock of sheep invading his land and quickly destroying the crops. He was distraught and extremely upset over his loss. So, he demanded immediate compensation, for he held the shepherd responsible for the destruction.

As emotional as the farmer and the shepherd were, and when the two men finished telling their complaint, Prophet Dawood waited before passing judgment. He felt sympathetic toward the farmer because of his loss and was disturbed with the shepherd for letting the sheep ruin the crops.

Prophet Dawood as then delivered his judgment, a very simple and direct judgment.Prophet Dawood said, "The flock of sheep must go to the farmer to compensate for his loss. The shepherd will be left with no sheep."

Silence fell upon the courtroom. The stillness was then broken by Suleiman, the eleven year old, who wanted to speak.
When he started to talk his father and the court dignitaries turned toward him in surprise.Despite his age Suleiman as boldly stated that he disagreed with his father's decision! He felt a different solution would be more fair to both the farmer and the shepherd. His suggestion was that to compensate for his losses, the farmer would keep the sheep for one year, to benefit from their milk and wool.
At the same time, the farmer would also plant his land and wait for the crops to grow. In so doing, the shepherd would only lend his flock of sheep to the farmer rather than losing it completely. The solution therefore would satisfy the two sides, as the losses and the compensation were equitable.

A smile drew on Prophet Dawood's as face, since he immediately sensed that his son's judgment was very reasonable. It was much better than his own judgment and impartial to both sides. The people in the court felt the same way.Prophet Dawood as then said, "Yes, your suggestion is better.Let us carry it out." This example shows us how wise Suleiman as was even at a very early age, and how understanding his father was.

DID PROPHET SULEIMAN BECOME A RULER?

Suleiman as became a Prophet and a ruler too. When his father, Prophet Dawood died, the new ruler was Suleiman as. He was known to everyone to be righteous and fair-minded, and was loved and admired for these qualities.Suleiman as was noted for his wisdom and high character.

Under his rule his nation prospered even more because he was such a good administrator.

Allah gave Suleiman as special powers not only to understand people well but also to understand the instincts of animals. He could understand their ways, habits, and mode of communication. In other words, Suleiman as could understand the "language" of the animals.

As a Prophet and King, Suleiman as had a powerful military that was well trained and well equipped, and the forces were very well administered under him.Suleiman as had to fight a number of battles, none for revenge or lust of power, rather for the cause of the Almighty and righteousness.

However, with the passage of time Suleiman as became preoccupied with horses as well as worldly affairs.Sensing this, a bad governor of one of the northern provinces revolted against Suleiman as. The revolt spread and a fierce war erupted with the governor leading the forces against Suleiman. The governor was not a true believer in Allah.

Suleiman as and his forces could not stand in the face of the enemy since the enemy was too strong and powerful.Suleiman as lost many battles and the enemy even captured Jerusalem the capital.Suleiman and his army were left with only a small territory of the country.

Having a keen mind, Suleiman as had a jarring feeling similar to a sudden awakening.Suleiman felt that Allah was testing him, since he was paying more attention to his worldly affairs lately instead of concentrating on work for Allah. He prayed to Allah, powerfully so, asking His help and guidance.Suleiman as became ever more determined to tend to Allah's work.He felt revitalized and confidant as if by magic his vigor was renewed and his strength was back.

Suleiman ascollected his shattered forces and infused enthusiasm among them toward serving the Almighty. With the renewed energy the forces went to battle with a zeal hard to match. They fought hard and won, the victory was theirs for the sake of the Almighty, and Suleiman regained his throne. The kingdom was once again united, and Suleiman as the Prophet was set to work for Allah in an ever more determined manner.

                          SULEIMAN as BUILDS A MASJID:

Having much wealth, being wise and a good administrator, Suleiman as began to rebuild a masjid al Aqsa for the worship of Allah Almighty. Thousands, if not tens of thousands were employed including the best of craftsmen. (Surah 27:Ayah 17-19).They worked very hard and step by step the beautiful masjid was rebuilt as a masterpiece and a beauty to behold. It took a number of years before it was finished.

What a beautiful feeling it was to glorify and worship Allah (swt) in the new masjid (Al aqsa)!
The building was huge, magnificent in design, and very attractive. The masjid gave a sense of awesome depth and grandeur with many arches supporting its high ceiling. It was adorned by many ornaments.Even the floor did not escape detail as it consisted of special glass to make one feel like walking on water.

The masjid became a central theme, and he who worshipped in it was struck by its beauty and splendor. This was especially true of Balkees, the Queen of Sheba.

                            WHO IS QUEEN BALKEES?

Quite famous, Balkees was a queen of the land called Sabaa or Sheba (now Yemen). She ruled a rich and powerful country. Her throne was famous for being magnificent and renowned for its splendor.

Alas, Hud'hudHud'hud is a hoopoe, a special species of bird.See Surah 27:Ayah 20) noted that the people of Sabaa' were worshipping the sun, the moon, and the stars. This mode of worship was not unusual in these ancient times.

But Balkees was a queen of remarkable intellect and was endowed with good sense. She was fair, and reputed to consult her trusted ones.

                            WHAT DID HUD'HUD DO?

Having left the land of Sabaa' Hud'hud headed for Palestine, to tell Prophet Suleiman asabout his discoveries—of Balkees and her countrymen worshipping the sun, moon, and the stars.

It was distressful to all, especially to Prophet Suleiman as, to hear what Hud'hud had to say.Having heard of the upsetting news, Prophet Suleiman as sent emissaries to Balkees, with a firm but friendly message. The message was frank and to the point—it called Queen Balkees and her community to the belief in the Oneness of Allah and to follow His directives.

                            WHAT DID QUEEN BALKEES DO?

For some time Balkees had heard about Suleiman's as faith, the Oneness of God and the remarkable teachings.Although the faith was appealing, yet everyone in her country continued to worship the sun as their giver of life!

But now, having formally received a request toward the Truth from Prophet Suleiman as, Queen Balkees held a council. The matter was serious, and though appealing it had to be thoroughly discussed. After much deliberation the council decided to send gifts to entice Prophet Suleiman as and gain his friendship—jewelry, gold, and precious stones. They wrongly thought Prophet Suleiman was interested in material riches, little did they realize the seriousness of Suleiman's religious call.

Prophet Suleiman felt very offended once he found out about the gifts from the Queen. He assumed Balkees has misinterpreted his message, and to correct any confusion, arrangements were made for the Queen of Sheba to visit Prophet Suleiman as.
"Let her come and see," was the suggestion, "Let her council and dignitaries be the guests of Jerusalem, we will answer all their questions." (Surah 27:Ayah 39)

                            DID BALKEES VISIT SULEIMAN?

Balkees and her council lost no time in preparing for the trip to visit Suleiman as.The journey was very long and tiresome as Jerusalem was more than 1500 miles north.Traveling on camels, wind storms, and meager food caused their traveling to be difficult and lengthy. The terrain was mostly vast desert with occasional rugged mountains dispersed along the way.The journey took a few months, and the travelers were weary before reaching Jerusalem. Finally, Balkees and her court set foot in Jerusalem safe and sound.

They received a warm welcome."A nice way to be received," the impressed Balkees thought. The host country under the leadership of Prophet Suleiman as welcomed everyone very warmly.

                            WHAT DID BALKEES SEE?

Having rested for a short period Balkees and her court were anxious to see the famous palace as they heard so much about it, the grand palacewith masjid build by Suleiman as.They wanted to see its beauty, its architecture, and everything in it.

A very large crowd gathered to welcome the Queen. She, along with King Suleiman aswere at the head of a long procession. The people were excited and curious. The procession proceeded slowly and it finally arrived.

The palace with masjid was a delightful surprise, it was simply magnificent. It was majestic, elegant, and so beautiful.it was big and well proportioned, ornate and refined. Its majestic elegance forced Balkees to gape at the surrounding beauty.

The queen climbed some steps and as she went inside she was startled! She thought she was wading through water and reflexly raised her garment exposing her legs! This was regarded as very undignified, especially for a queen. Queen Sheba, out of embarrassment, became red in the face.

Seeing what happened, Suleiman as immediately explained to her that the palace and masjid s floor was made of glass in such a way as to make a person think he is walking on water!* (Surah 27: Ayah 44) This, he proclaimed, was one of the wonders of the palace.

Queen Sheba felt better, and continued her enjoyment of the masjid and palace, admiring its design, high ceilings, mirrors, bronze statues, and rugs. The palace and masjid she felt, was an inspiration for anyone who wanted to worship the Almighty.

                            DID BALKEES WORSHIP?

The occasion being proper, Prophet Suleiman as lost no time to tell Balkees about Allah and His religion islam. He discussed the high morals the religion requires, and how it encourages goodness and prohibits evil.Suleiman as discussed the Hereafter with her, and the rewards of those who believe in God, please Him, and abide by His teachings.

Balkees, the Queen of Sheba, was open-minded and she listened well. The discussions went on for a number of days, and eventually excellent results emerged. Not only was she impressed by Suleiman as, but more so by what he told her during their meetings. This was also true of her entourage, those who came with her from Sabaa'.

The journey proved wonderful as Balkees the Queen, along with her escorts decided to accept and follow islam. They became believers, believing in Allah and following His Directives, and living within its bounds of ethics.

DID THEY GO BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY?

Queen Balkees and her entourage returned to their country and the whole population listened to their story.Happily, the people decided to change and believe in Allah. They wanted to learn and follow His Commands. Thus, Prophet Suleiman as, in an indirect way, changed a whole country by encouraging its Queen to become a believer.

Allah (swt) endowed Suleiman with the power to understand the instincts, habits, customs, and mode of communication of animals—so he could easily understand their language. (Surah 27:Ayah 17)

Allah also gave Suleiman the power over some atmospheric happenings, such as wind matters and other natural phenomena. (Surah 21:Ayah 81)

Among these phenomena Prophet Suleiman as communicated with the Jinns. The Jinns are beings, not seen, who are either good or evil. When the Jinns heard that Queen Balkees had decided to visit Jerusalem, one of them offered to Suleiman as to bring her throne in less time Asif a companion is said to bring her throne to Jerusalem within the blink of an eye. This type of power is mysterious to our senses, but is mentioned in the Holy Quran. Why did Allah (swt) specify Suleiman as in this favor, no one knows, but it is the Wisdom of the Creator. (Surah 27:Ayah 17)

Prophet Suleiman as died of old age, after which the Israelite government never reached the heights of glory as it did during his times or the times of his father, Prophet Dawood as.

One of the greatest Prophets was to come later, to bless the people with Allah's teachings, and to correct numerous misconceptions and false ideas that crept into the religion. His name was Prophet Isa (Jesus) as.may Allah's blessings be with him.He was called the Messiah, or Christ, meaning "The Good Teacher, the Anointed one."

Unlike the Christian views, we know isa as as only a great Prophet, whom Muhammad (pbuh) called a brother.Jesus/isa as was a Prophet like many others before him, and he is held in great reverence for his Prophethood. He was the exalted teacher, the outstanding one for he taught the substance religion, in its deep and pure meanings.Unfortunately, Christians adopted twisted teachings of paul in christianity of its true form and ultimately deified him (made him into a God).Much confusion resulted from Christians until, by Allah's grace, Muhammad (pbuh) was sent to distinguish with the Prophethood, to deliver Allah's refined law and Message..islam.

                              Uzair as (Izra)

In the name of Allah, The Most Merciful The Most Compassionate. Pace and Blessings be upon our master, the most noble Prophet Muhammad. We praise Allah (SWT), thank Him, and seek His help, guidance and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah (SWT) from the evil in our souls and the sinfulness of our deeds. He whom Allah guides, he is the rightly guided; but he whom He sends astray, for him you will find no guiding advocate.

Uzair (Ezra) (AS) is a Prophet that has not been mentioned in Quran but in few occasions. In spite of the fact that his story is not a famous one, it is highly significat. Let us now read in Surat al-Baqarah what can be translated as, or like the one who passed by a town while it had tumbled over its roofs. He said: "oh! How will Allah ever bring it to life after its death. So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up (again). He said: "How long did you remain (dead)? He (the man) said: "(Perhaps) I remained (dead) a day or part of a day."
He said:"Nay, you have remained (dead) for a hundred years, look at your food and your drink, they show no change; and look at your donkey! And thus We have made of you a sign for the people. Look at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh. When this was clearly shown to him, he said, I know (now) that Allah is Able to do all things."

Uzair (AS) is one of Allah s (SWT) Prophets who came after Musa (AS) (Moses), Dawud (AS) (David), and Solaiman (AS) (Solomon). We mentioned before that the People of israel excelled in arguing and disputing and they have never changed. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that Allah (SWT) sent many Prophets to them, that once a Prophet dies, He would send another to them. Therefore, the Children of israel did not live one day without a Prophet since Yaqub (AS) (Jacob) till Isa (AS) (Jesus). It was Allah s (SWT) mercy to send them so many Prophets. Many of them believed that sending many Prophets was due to their favor with Allah (SWT). On the contrary, this was because they were a nation so far away from Allah (SWT).

Furthermore, the Prophet (PBUH) said,"Among the nation of Bani israel who lived before you, there were men who used to be inspired with guidance though they were not Prophets, and if there is any of such persons amongst my followers, it is Omar."

Omar Ibn Al-Khattab narrated, Once a Jew said to me, "O the chief of believers! There is a verse in your Holy Book, which is read by all of you (Muslims), and had it been revealed to us, we would have taken that day (on which it was revealed) as a day of celebration"
Omar ra Ibn Al-Khattab asked, which is that verse?
The Jew replied what can be translated as,"This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, And have chosen for you Islam as your religion."
Omar ra replied, 'No doubt, we know when and where this verse was revealed to the Prophet. It was Friday and the Prophet was standing at Arafat (i.e. the Day of Hajj ).Consequently, our Umma (nation of Islam) is sustained by the perfection of religion as Allah (SWT) set rules to set Muslims firm in their religion and too make them close to each other. For example, the daily five prayers gather Muslims five times a day in Masjids, the Friday prayer gathers them in a weekly meeting, and both Ramadan (Muslim holy month) and Hajj (pilgrimage) unites them every year. Hence, these are permanent rules to keep this nation integrated and unified.*

Uzair (AS), who was sent to the People of israel, as one of the many Prophets sent to them. It was strange indeed when Uzair (PBUH) grew up and lived in a town different from the one he was meant to make dawa (call to Islam) in.
Observe how Allah (SWT) ordered Yunus (AS) (Jonah) not to leave his people, while he ordered Uzair (PBUH) to move to a different town. You see, Allah (SWT) wills what He wants, while we are to implement His orders. This is why we read in the verse what can be translated as,or like the one who passed by a town, to indicate that the town is not his place of birth. Moreover, the story of Uzair (PBUH) differs from that of other Prophets, since all Prophets were sent by Allah (SWT) to their own people, now hath come unto you a Messenger from amongst yourselves unlike Uzair (AS). The Prophets mission, including Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was to start with their neighbors and relatives. However, Allah (SWT) ordered Uzair (AS) to move to another town to make dawa. So, Uzair (AS) mounted his donkey, taking his food and water, to the place Allah (SWT) commanded. Now I want to clarify the greatness of making dawa as you leave your home to help a brother or a sister in Islam.

The main aim from narrating the stories of the Prophets here is to encourage you to make . Did anyone of you try to make dawa after what you have learned about what the Prophets had to go through? Nuh (AS) spent 1000 years in dawa.
O my Lord! I have called to my People night and day.Yunus (AS) left his people angrily and went to different people, and that is why he was imprisoned inside a whale s belly. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spent 23 years and bore all the sufferings for the sake of dawa. Yet, do the people present here right now consider dawa (calling to Allah (SWT)) their main goal in life? How do you address people when you make dawa? Do your words match your behavior? One may say: I do not know enough to make dawa. To him I say that it is not necessary to be a scholar as long as you can talk about the little that you already know.

Uzair (AS) arrived to the appointed town and was stunned to find it empty; no life no plants, and no animals, simply nothing! He wondered why he was sent there in the first place. Allah (SWT) described the town as: tumbled over its roofs .Contrary to the norm, the roofs in this case collapsed first only to be followed by the walls, due to the immense destruction in the town. I thought about the questions he must have thought of then:

1- He must have wondered if he is in the right place. But he knew that he followed Allah s (SWT) description precisely.

2- He must have wondered where the dwellers of the town are and thus decided to look for them. He could not find anybody, nor could he question Allah s (SWT) orders, so he did not go back.
He put his absolute trust in Allah (SWT) and knew that since he was sent to this town, then Allah (SWT) would give life back to it. Compare his attitude to our condition nowadays. He trusted Allah (SWT) and followed his orders. On the other hand, the whole world nowadays is lost, and Allah (SWT) has promised us in this verse saying what can be translated as, Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the land. Thus, the earth is for Muslims, so do you trust Allah (SWT) and his promise, like Uzair (PBUH) once did?

Furthermore, the Prophet (PBUH) mentioned that to his sahaba (companions) saying: Who entered Paradise?
Abdullah bin Umar raised his hand replying:, O messenger of Allah, So Umar bin Alkhattab put his hand on his head (a mark of discredit) Then the Prophet (PBUH) said: Who drank from the rivers of Paradise Abdullah replied: , O messenger of Allah Umar, his father, then wished he were not in that gathering in the first place (he was embarrassed). After that, the Prophet (PBUH) asked: Who ate from the fruits of Paradise?Abdullah raised his hands replying: O messenger of Allah. The people then looked at him and the Prophet (PBUH) smiled and said:
"You said the truth, tell them how you did Abdullah". Abdullah said:"O messenger of Allah, I had entered paradise, drank from its rivers, and ate from its fruits ."when you did.Which kind of certainty was that do you think; certainty of sight, or definite knowledge?

Therefore, Uzair (AS) was positive that Allah (SWT) would give life to that town due to his deep belief in Him, and he wanted to strengthen that belief by acquiring ˜certainty of sight as he watches the town being brought back to life. How far do you trust Allah (SWT)? Are you confident that He will forgive your sins? Are you positive that He will bring victory to Islam in Palestine by liberating Al-Aqsa Masjid? Do you have Uzair s (PBUH) conviction who resolved not to go back (leave the empty town) due to his trust in Allah (SWT)?

Uzair (AS) wanted to see Allah s (SWT) might with his own eyes. Hence, he went to the top of a mountain taking his food and his donkey in order to watch Allah s (SWT) miracle in this town. You see conviction gives you strength and closeness to Allah (SWT).

Thus you are never overcome with fear, you are certain of victory, certain that Allah (SWT) will reveal the truth and annihilate lies, and you are ever proud of being a Muslim. Accordingly, faith keeps you away from despair and moves you to make dawa in order to help people. Thus, Uzair (AS) wanted to watch the way life will be brought to that town. However, Allah (SWT) sometimes teaches us that things do not necessarily take place as we want them to. For example, sometimes we wonder how Allah (SWT) will bring victory to Muslims in Palestine, so we start imagining certain scenarios in our minds. Yet, Allah (SWT) will bring victory in a different way than we envision in order to assure us that He is The Able as we are given little of his knowledge.

                                Continue...

"Or like the one who passed by a town while it had tumbled over its roofs.
He said: "Oh! How will Allah ever bring it to life after its death?"
So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up (again). He said: "How long did you remain (dead)?"
He (the man) said: "(Perhaps) I remained (dead) a day or part of a day".
He said: "Nay, you have remained (dead) for a hundred years, look at your food and your drink, they show no change; and look at your donkey! And thus We have made of you a sign for the people. Look at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh". When this was clearly shown to him, he said, "I know (now) that Allah is Able to do all things." (Surat Al-Baqara:259).

When Uzair (AS) reached the center of the town, he saw its livelihood. He passed by people and asked them, "Have you ever heard of a man called Uzair (AS)?
                                They answered,"
He was a good man who lived in a near town and died 100 years ago".
He said," I am Uzair". They denied him and accused him of lying.
Finally, they recalled that there was a woman who had been living during Uzair's (AS) time and who knew him quite well. The woman was still alive, yet, she was blind. They realized that they could ask her to describe him, so they said"
This woman knows Uzair (AS). Let us bring her here so that she may describe you (Uzair) (AS) to us. If you are as she describes, then we will believe you".

The woman began to describe him and the people found Uzair (AS) to have the same features as she related. Nevertheless, they said, "We need more proof". They said: "
Uzair (AS) had memorized Al -Tawrah (Torah) completely; if you are indeed Uzair(AS), recite it, for it had been completely burnt by Bukhtu Nassar (Nebuchandnezzer) all but one copy, kept in heart by Uzair(AS), remained. If you are he himself, recite Al -Tawrah for us."

Uzair (AS) began to recite it and started the Dawa role for which he had come to that town 100 years ago. The people began to be guided and cry as they were deeply affected by the magnificence of what they heard. Hence, Allah (SWT) fulfilled what He commanded “Uzair (AS) to do, which was the Da'wa, and the people turned into believers with the help of Uzair (AS).

How Glorious Allah (SWT) is, Who dominates the whole universe! The purpose of this story is to increase our trust in Allah (SWT). Allah (SWT) mentions this at the end of the Ayah, what can be translated as, "
When this was clearly shown to him, he said, "I know (now) that Allah is Able to do all things." Everything is in the hands of Allah (SWT); if you are oppressed, and you've been committing sins for a long time, pray to Him sincerely to remove such sins from your heart. Be certain that this will be realized in a moment. This teaches us to seek Allah's (SWT) help in all our life aspects, as He is The Most Able.

It is worth mentioning that the word "Look" is repeated several times in this Ayah. Allah (SWT) wants us to look at everything around us to witness His ability and dominance. In addition, the word "Know" is also repeated. The goal behind this is great; namely, it is mentioned to ascertain the certainty in His knowledge and absolute ability

sigpic"When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!" (2.11)

And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people (followers of Muhammad Peace be upon him , Al-Ansar and Al-Muhajirun) have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?" Verily, they are the fools, but they know not."(2.13)
