Jews and Christians are certainly kafirs (disbelievers). They disbelieve in the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and they disbelieve in the Qur'an. How can they disbelieve and not be considered disbelievers? That's a very strange thing to say.

The Qur'an Majid says: "Whoso desires another religion than Islam, it shall not be accepted of him; in the next world he shall be among the losers" (3:85). And it says: "Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings" (98:6).

Do you know the difference between "wa la tankihu" and "wa la tunkihu"?

Muslims are prohibited from marrying non-Muslims:
Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But God beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise. (2:221)
The only exception to this prohibition is a Muslim man's marriage to a Jewish or Christian woman, and it has conditions. That permission is given by another verse in the Qur'an. But marriage between a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim man (Jew, Christian, or other) is prohibited by the Qur'an and Sunna. Another verse in the Qur'an says:
O ye who believe! When believing women come unto you as fugitives, examine them. Allah is Best Aware of their faith. Then, if ye know them for true believers, send them not back unto the disbelievers. They are not lawful for them (the disbelievers), nor are they (the disbelievers) lawful for them. And give them (the disbelievers) that which they have spent (upon them). And it is no sin for you to marry such women when ye have given them their dues. And hold not to the ties of disbelieving women; and ask for (the return of) that which ye have spent; and let them (the disbelievers) ask for that which they have spent. That is the judgment of Allah. He judgeth between you. Allah is Knower, Wise. (60:10)

These, brothers and sisters, are the dangers of the "Do it yourself" approach. Reading translations and other books does not qualify one to interpret primary texts and deduce legal rulings. Our duty as non-scholars is to follow qualified scholarship. The schools of law (madhhabs) have been a source of guidance for Muslims for more than a thousand years. The greatest minds of Islam have contributed to the formation of these schools, and the vast majority of the umma has agreed on them as valid sources of sacred law.

Well, the question should be why she can't.

You might be an amazing person, dearest hindupashtun, however, there are certain laws that guide those who want to seek Allah.
Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

[61:8] They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with the breath of their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers hate it.

[61:9] He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, even if those who associate partners with God hate it.

Don't worry, very soon your idealogy will be cluttered as well since atheists and Qadiyanis are dispensing advice on Islamic issues.

Why not ask a qualified Islamic scholar in your local mosque instead of half way crooks?
O'faithful hearken thy vezir, for he promises them another Gandamak and for the ancestors of Hari Nalwa a similar fate has been sealed. We shall shake the foundations of their inner sanctums, written in gold and immortal will remain this endeavor of Afghans.

There are decisive texts from the Qur’an which refer to the prohibition of such marriage. For example, Allah Almighty says:

“And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al Mushrikun* (atheists) till they believe (in Allah Alone)” (Al-Baqarah: 221)

And “And never will Allah grant to the disbelievers a way (to triumph) over the believers” (An-Nisaa’: 141)

*Jews and Christian can be described as Mushrikeen, since they do not believe in Allah alone; Christians deem Jesus (PBUH) to be the son of God, and Jews take Ezra (PBUH) to be the son of god.

I just wanted to point out khoray, that Islam has been here since the beginning. It is the Qur'an which came later. (Which is what you may have meant.)

what a hypocracy on one hand the jews and christaians are called the people of the book when it favors the men, on the other hand when it comes to women the same is called kafir, their holy books are considered rubbish and written by human. prophet Mohammad married 18 time only few of his wives were mulims.

                          LOL, Jasmine.
I'm here. Sorry for the late response. Was busy.

Yes, that's a huge double standard -- and not the only one.

I have posted my views on this same topic in this same thread ... previous pages. The MOST important thing you must know is that the Quran never tells women they can't marry Jews or Christians; it only tells men that they can but never tells women they can't, and it tells BOTH men and women that they are forbidden from marrying "disbelievers" until they believe. It never tells women ALONE that they cannot marry disbelievers. Who's anyone to tell us that that means "women are forbidden from marriage to Jews/Christians," Jasmine? While the argument that once upon a time women were too stupid, too ignorant to be given in marriage to anyone who didn't have the same beliefs -- because, clearly, women are easily led astray by men since women are just intellectually inferior to men, remember? -- we don't buy this argument today because it's been proven to us that women are JUST as intellectually strong as men are. Moreover, we know that children are raised mostly by the mother, so whatever the religion of the mother is, the children are more than likely to be the same. But we're told that women can't marry Jews/Christians because the men will force women to change their beliefs. Sorry, I don't buy this reason either.

Anyway, since saying more on this would be repeating myself, lemme give you reference to the posts in which I've explained this, and you can let me know if you've any questions.

                          ~ Post 1: http://www.pashtunforums.com/88767-post2.html

~ Post 2: http://www.pashtunforums.com/89042-post13.html (This is a response to anyone claiming that the Quran tells us we can't marry disbelievers. BUT! Those who quote this always leave half of the verse Guess what that verse says... it starts off telling MEN first not to marry disbelieving women until they believe! THEN it tells women not to marry disbelieving men until they believe. Do you see how people try to fool us?)

~ Post 3: http://www.pashtunforums.com/89566-post53.html (How people misquote Quranic verses to pitifully attempt to justify their claim that the QURAN forbids women from marrying Jews and Christians. The term the Quran uses is "mushrikoon," which literally means polytheists. But if God REALLY meant Jews and Christians by this term, then why would it use the Ahl-e-Kitab for them in one context when it's telling men they CAN marry their women, and then use "mushrikoon" when telling BOTH men and women NOT to marry them?)

Jasmine Guley, the Quran is extremely unclear on many, many issues. And I'm happy you asked this question because it shows that you're thinking. Don't you EVER fall for what people tell you about what you can and can't do! Clear it up with the Quran, and if it's not in the Quran, you should ask questions like, "Who said this then? And why? And WHENNNN?" Hadiths are important when it comes to the ambiguity in the Quran, but you must never accept anything without thinking about it. The first thing should be: Why does the Quran NOT specifically tell us that women can't marry Christians and Jews? Does its not saying it clearly mean something? What could that be?

~ Post 4: http://www.pashtunforums.com/89542-post51.html (An explanation for why once upon a time -- or even today, in some societies -- women were forbidden from marriage to those who were unlike them ... even though men could do it.)

You see, this whole thing about how men can marry non-Muslim women but women can't marry non-Muslim men is exactly the same as how some Pashtuns tell us that a Pashtun woman must not marry a non-Pashtun man but a Pashtun MAN can marry a non-Pashtun woman :S Why? it has to do with power, Jasmine. Power, authority, dominance, superiority, and anything else that could lead to a man's feeling inferior to a woman.

                          k, I hope it's clear now.

It's funny that we come and tell each other what we can and can't do when it's been a major topic of debate since the beginning of the 7th century! It's even funnier that we try to justify things that are not actually justified by the Quran itself. As humans, we find excuses for things to be continuously shoved down our throats even though they're the most obvious illogical things/guidelines possible.

If something has a double-standard it means that it is flawed, correct? If so, then why do Muslims adhere to Islam?
