Honor killing in name of islam ?

Present day pakistan , many are willing to accept a male member of their family falling in love , dating and even marrying his lover but when it comes to a female member of our family doing what she wants to do with 'her' life , we suddenly feel a loss of honor . We would even beat and kill anybody dating our females .Pashtuns specifically are well known for over-possessiveness and honor killing . I want to know why does our honor to lie in the sexual feelings of our females ? Apart from that if your sister were to fall in love with somebody and they'd date then what would you do ?
PS I mean only a debate here and do accept my apologies if I've unintentionally offended any of you
