  • Morality is not tied to any particular religion

as salaamu aleikoum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

for the infidels, disbelievers and enemies of theism and Islam in particular, I would like to provide this opportunity to make a case for their arguments in a sensible fashion.

So please, make a case for your argument. And please, refrain from copying and pasting from other websites such as wikipedia.

we are moral because we now certain actions have consequences based on our religion.
Well, you can find atheists with morals as well.

Atheists do good for the sake of doing good.

Theists however may do good either for the sake of rewards or to avoid punishments.

I'm afraid that I totally disagree with that statement. Morality comes from within, morality has to do with individuals... and moral values are relative and ever-changing in most cases. If indeed morality comes from Islam, why do we find more corruption and frustration here than we do in the West?
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

The response to the poll so far says it all! Only one person so far has said that morality is tied to religion.

I agree with PashtunQueen. Morality has nothing to do with religion.

For a religious person morality is absolute and doesn't change over time. An example is homosexual relationships, while muslims always maintain it immoral, non religious people change their opinion over time which is mainly affected by what society things and is greatly influenced by those in power.

On major issues like stealing, murder and paodophilia both religous and non religous agree that these are immoral acts but on issues like abortion they don't agree usually. So who is to say abortion is moral or immoral?
That is where Islam comes into effect. Those who lack religion are confused about morality.

Holland is one of the least religious countries in the world. Yet, many of its laws and morals in dutch society are rooted in christianity.

Same with USA, Britain & Germany.

all the extreme expressions of immorality are relatively new. Pornography was very rare in the past. It has become more prevalent now ever since religion is supressed to private life.

Several ways to look at this.

One has to be insane to think morality is subjective. That would easily justify the slaughter of millions of people. As the people of that nation believed it was perfectly fine.

If it is subjective. Man is deficient to have a perfect moral system. So this would change according to mankind's desires. And desires without restraint is chaos. That in return would cause a catastrophe.

The only logical and stable conclusion is that it is objective. Religion deals with it best. And Islam is perfect and the superior.

Morality is not tied to ANY religion or ONLY religion. Our moral values are a complex mixture of different variables such as culture, religion, family, social background etc. There is no perfect moral system in the world as it's a highly subjective concept.Something which is moral in one part of the world can be completely immoral in another. The best morality system would be the one which offers compassion to the humanity alike, keeping aside the differences.(when you see someone bleeding after being hit by a car, you don't ask him/her about the faith/religion.Your obligation (basic instinct) , that you feel (if you do) is to save the life of the HUMAN!)
Many 'moral' values today could be considered 'Universal' values--Killing a human is fobidden in Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Jainism, Hinduism and many other faiths including the athiesm, so why should we think that our moral values are a product of religion exclusively!Similarly, speaking truth, taking care of parents, teaching good things etc are found in all cultures (Muslim or Non-muslim, pashtuns or non-Pashtuns, developed/undeveloped etc)
The 'sense' to differentiate between GOOD and BAD is not limited to humans.Even animals can instinctively can take out the fellow animal from danger. Who taught the animals to do the GOOD?
"O Pakhtuns!, Your house has fallen into ruin, let us rebuild it".
"I want to see my people educated and enlightened. A people with a vision and a strong sense of justice, who can carve out a future for themselves in harmony with nature".

Religions are source of morality, there is definately correlation between morality and religion. Islam, my religion, teach me what is right what is wrong...which is nothing but morality.

Every tom and dik can create his own set of morals. Without religion i can establish my own set of principles which would suit my own benefits....i can start raping girls to achieve sexual pleasure for free...apparantly a pleasure act for me.....i can rob banks, free money without too much effort....

Luffy, I agree with the role that a religion plays in establishing our moral belief system. For me, it is just another variable, not the only one. For others like you,it is the ONLY variable.

Psychologists think that every human has his/her own moral standards, catering to their needs. So a certain 'lie' told by your friend might appear harmless to him, but to you it could be an unbearable thing. So even the degree of effect of one lie is determined by the existing moral standards of particular person. There is always a certain amount of bias introduced in the practice od our moral values--the bias that makes us happy!
