  • 2 Million Ethnic Muslims Convert From Islam To Russian Orthodox Christianity

According to reports in the last 20 years in Russia, 2,000,000 ethnic Muslims people have left Islam since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990s. In the same period it is believe only 2,000 to 5,000 ethnic Russians converted to Islam.

While various Muslim sources claim that Islam is the fastest growing religion in Russia and that ethnic Russians are converting to Islam in large numbers, Roman Silantyev, the executive secretary of the Interreligious Council of Russia denounces this as a myth.

Silantyev states that in recent years more than two million people from various ethnic Muslim backgrounds including Tatar, Azeri, Ingush, Kazakh, etc. have converted from Islam to Orthodox Christianity in Russia, while the number of ethnic Russians who have converted to Islam is between two thousand and five thousand.

I know that what it is that has been itching you to make that comment. Obviously, you see the chances of the return of Arab glory getting further bleak with such news.

I don't know whether the source is reliable or not and neither care who converts to what but I found the news strange and posted it here. But one thing that caught my attention is, the news quotes a Russian state organization for the news.

Here I found the article below, when I further searched the news.

"In a BBC interview, Russian demographer Viktor Perevedentsev brushed aside the idea that Russia would become a majority Muslim nation, stating that politicians are merely using recent the rise of Muslim birth rates in developing areas to generate fear.

Roman Silantyev, the executive secretary of the Interreligious Council of Russia, is in agreement. He believes the current estimates of Muslim converts are largely false.

“Less than 3,000 ethnic Russian have converted to Islam for the last 15 years,” says Silantyev.

Based on his research, during that same time period more than two million ethnic Muslims converted to Orthodox Christianity.

Silantyev is also quick to point out that after every major terrorist attack conducted by Islamic extremists in Russia, hundreds if not thousands of Muslims converted to Christianity.

After the Beslan hostage crisis in North Ossetia, where extremists took more than 1,100 people hostage, the numbers of people practicing Islam in North Ossetia decreased by 30 percent, while Beslan saw as many as half of its Muslim population convert.

The hostage crisis ended after a bloody gun battle with Russian forces left 380 dead, including 186 children.

Surveys conducted by Russia’s Public Opinion Research Center showed that only 6 percent of respondents identified themselves as Muslims."

Read carefully the text that has been underlined although I know that it can be beyond an irrational and sick mind from the barenness to imagine even the possibility of such a thing to happen. One feels sad as how the Wahabi ideology has harmed a civilization.

Wake up Buffoon, things may not turn according to your utopia nor is human attitude to instability predictabale.

Here are wikipedia articles. I don't know how reliable they are.
"From its birth, Islam has been a central feature in Africa. Africa was the first continent into which Islam expanded, and it has become an integral part of many African cultures and histories[1]. According to World Book Encyclopedia, Islam is the largest religion in Africa, followed by Christianity[2]. However, according to Encyclopædia Britannica, Christianity is the largest religion in Africa, followed by Islam [3].

There are conflicting statistics on religious practitioners in Africa (including North Africa). Encyclopædia Britannica, as of mid-2002, there were 376,453,000 Christians, 329,869,000 Muslims and 98,734,000 people who practiced traditional religions in Africa.[4] Nevertheless, according to a May 9, 2009 Congressional Research Service report, there were 371,459,142 Muslims, 304,313,880 Christians, 137,842,507 who practiced indigenous religions, and 9,818,542 people who practiced other religions in Africa.[2] "

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Africa
"Christianity is now one of the two most widely practised religions in Africa. There has been tremendous growth of Christians in Africa - coupled by a relative decline in adherence to traditional African religions. As evidence, only nine million Christians were in Africa in 1900, but by the year 2000, there were an estimated 380 million Christians.

Some experts predict the shift of Christianity's center of gravity from the European industrialized nations to Africa and Asia in modern times. Yale University historian Lamin Sanneh stated, that "African Christianity was not just an exotic, curious phenomenon in an obscure part of the world, but that African Christianity might be the shape of things to come."[8] The statistics from the World Christian Encyclopedia (David Barrett) illustrate the emerging trend of dramatic Christian growth on the continent and supposes, that in 2025 there will be 633 million Christians in Africa.[9]

Your source is still a blog; which isn't really reliable; .....there's no itching on my part; if anyone seems to be itching it's probably you because of being exposed as a House Negro . I just dont understand why you're getting off on the idea of such things happening.

so answer my question, did you convert to Christianity?

yes, the russian muslims might be keeping a low profile so as not to be spied upon and persecuted, after those events. so i would also consider the russian numbers unreliable.

The Ossetian population of North Ossetia is predominantly Christian with a Muslim minority, speaking Ossetic and Russian.
According to the 2002 Census, Ossetians make up 62.7% of the republic's population. Other groups include Russians (23.2%), Ingush (3.0%), Armenians (2.4%), Kumyks (12,659, or 1.8%), Georgians (10,803, or 1.5%), Ukrainians (0.7%), Chechens (3,383, or 0.5%), and a host of smaller groups, each accounting for less than 0.5% of the total population. 3,283 people (0.5%) did not indicate their nationalities during the Census.

If you look at the demographics, the majority of Ossetians were never Muslims; Ossetians have always been predominantly Christian which means that these commentaries you keep finding on blogs are not really making any meritable claims.

ok can you show me where in the pew study are your claims being supported?

I am in 120% agreement regarding the devastating impact of Wahhabi ideology. However the way I feel about Wahhabism is on par with my views on Secularism.

You can assume anything that would massage that camel ego.
The second source is not a blog. Anyhow, one can google the news and see other sources.

it seems you're the only one here who has been doing the massaging; and it seems primarily focused on the proverbial member of your farangay master.

the second source is essentially blog since it's very vague and none of it's corroborating references show up

I asked you a question; it requires a simple yes or no; did you convert to Christianity?

That may be the case. But you should also take into account another factor i.e., reporting of Muslim conversion to other religions is a sensitive issue in view of risk to the lives and persecution of the converts in Muslim countries if such large-scale conversion is highlighted in news.

Are you an Ikhwan-i-Mulimin (the extremist group to which Aiman Al-Zawahiri is affiliated)? I am a secular Muslim.
