  • Learning the Quran/Beating Children

I have always wondered about why people beat children when teaching them the Quran.

Although I was born and raised in Western countries, the Imam still used to beat us if we made mistakes. I am not sure if this has been carried over countries via cultural norms or if it is an element of the teaching process itself.

For anyone who holds the Quran in high regard and believe Islam is a religion of love and peace, beating children while teaching them one of it's main components seems a little strange.

What are your views on this?

I have been beat, and I see no problem. It's been done like this for many centuries. Only the babies and complainers of these times do people start complaining.

People used to get beat in Public schools, up until a few decades ago, people are turning to a bunch of cry baby sissies

beating children to teach them quran is not from the sunnah. It is an evil innovation.

beating children or adults for religious purposes or mistakes they make otherwise is wrong.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

Reminds me of one of my favorite stories for some reason. It's called "Bao" (or an evil monster).

                ^ Tell me about it.
My Quran teacher not only used to beat children up half to death, he also even molested the female students -- who were under 10 years of age.

The same is being practiced in our moderate schools by the educated people...

arrrgghhhh....where was this at? In our village male teaching females Quran was a big no no. Most of the teachers were Bibi's, females.

Though those who thought boys, there were rumors of them praying on the kids. Our family males were very hawkish and protective, so we were spared from the unfortunate circumstances of ever finding out. They also pray on kids from poor families or families that don't have males i.e. matay. They don't dare mess with children which could mean the end of their lives.

now...to the beating...my father put me in this new madrassa across the village...after he left me there, I was back home in 30 mins, out of breath and sweating...my father asked me what happened? I was like the mullah was going to beat me to death with a bamboo stick so i ran...he dragged me back to the madrassa....he asked the mullah saib what happened...the mullah told him I wouldn't stop laughing...he asked me multiple times to stop laughing i was disturbing the class while he was teaching but I wouldn't....so my father asked me why i was laughing....

so i said.."da che kala khabaray kayee, da de geerah khureege, ma ta de tony lakay yadaa shee"

trans: when the mullah saib talks/speaks, his beard waves, which reminds me of tony (family dog) tail...

my father had a burst of quick laugh...realizing the mullah saib was standing there, he was embarrassed, and gave me a good tatoora/sapeera/slap. he apologized to the mullah saib. but the mullah saib didn't want anything to do with me after that..after leaving the madrassa...he bought me a pepsi cola to make up. he then told the story to the whole village. he got a trip out it...even now he brings it up.

but serious though, that dude had a really long beard white beard, and to top it off, he had the tip red with nakrezay...which is how tony tail looked. no joke. tony looked exactly like the dog from the tv series lassie.

Many perverts are attracted to this profession because of the fact that they have access to kids. So teaching about Allah's love and forgiveness is the last thing on their minds.

There is another dimension to it as well, and that is that "young" children, are not really "young", because the age that most of these kids are, that age kids actually get married back there.

^ people will probably end up not sending their kids to the mosque.

Did anyone see the programme by Dispatches lesson in hate and violence?

My madrases were run by Husband, and wife. The Husband taught the boys, the wife taught the girls. Family is very respectful. Even after getting whipped by my Hafiz, we are still great friends till this day.

This whole thing of molesting, is alien to me.
