I agree with most of what your saying. I studied Hadiths, when I was younger, and actually dropped out of college for a year, so I cam focus on reading and understanding Sahih Bukhari, and Muslim. It does make a good reference, but the Quran is the Law. The prophet used to pray half the night, people seem to ignore that part as well.
If you read what I said, and take it into context, I was only making a general point of the issue i.e. the marriage of the Prophet Mohammad to Aisha ra, which would be considered by most, morally irrelevant, in today's time and age. But we, as Muslims, understand that if indeed happened, there were special circumstances. And, it is not a compulsory practice and shouldn't be. People who want to marry 6 year old or 9 year old shouldn't be allowed to for various reasons today. Some people use the Prophet as an excuse to entertain their perverse fantasies.

Our society back home is a prime example. Little girls, I mean very little girls, are married off to men way older. They suffer greatly physically and psychologically. Anyone in the medical field can testify to this.

You are in the medical field, I would want your honest answer to this. Would you allow your 9 year old, to be married to a 30 year old, today, in this time and age? I doubt it, I seriously doubt it. But if you are, I would like to know how you will justify that.

Depends on the circumstance, the suitor, and what my options are in the setting of consent. Based on my personal experience, in the Pax American era its a difficult situation to promote because the separation between koor wala and the outside world has diminished. With that in mind, asking a mature adult and a girl still being taught to cope with this new world to interface in that way may, more likely than not, lead to a bad outcome (no data to confirm this). Its similar to the situation where more Pashtuns are demanding a marriage partner of equitable education level per their choice. Its hard to tell them, you cannot demand this.

That being said, I look at the biological aspect of human beings and see that emotional argument tends to trump an honest survey of what is around us. For example:

9-12 year olds are, unfortunately, having sex... not in the larger numbers that their other adolescent comrades are... but they are per these stats:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolesc..._United_States

So this becomes a logical conundrum. I mean, heck, boys are programmed to like girls and vice versa. Why do we assume that putting them together would produce any different result than when we put two other male and female species members together?

The issue is that the age of maturity is a problem in the US. You see Afghan kids back home have to fill in for their dad or uncle or someone at an early age and lose their childhood rather early. They probably understand harsh economic realities better than their American counterparts of a similar age, but that statement of mine needs data to back it up. Their lives and early mortality tend to resemble the statistics of ages gone by... so earlier marriage may not be as much of an issue there. It may also serve as a social mechanism to ride out the harsh realities of crushing poverty.

So my preference is to separate males and females at such ages with the realization that men will find women and vice versa despite any major efforts to separate the sexes. With this in mind, I encourage early marriage and would support my children in the right setting. I was married reasonably early as well, but that is anecdote and I have, admittedly, seen extremely poor outcomes that counter my own blessed outcome.

I agree with this statement. I dont see you as condemning hadith literature... you are merely noting that application of that law, as any law, must be carefully thought out and mapped out or else it will be abused.

No one should call you a takfir.

I agree with this post. No where in anyones narrations says for other people to marry 9 year olds. the prophet done many great things, but no one follows those.
