Khabera pe khabera stase har alfaaz sher dai. Der aala Azad Khel.

Your poem is spot on. I was in fact referring to the idea of love that is seldom conversed - the love between a man and his Creator. Now, let's go from here. I am so pleased you've shared this poem.

Another question maybe, and I continue in English to involve everyone, what does the idea of love being blind mean? I understand the language of love, as they call it, is spoken differently by every individual, however, I wonder why the association of this concept is only linked with a union of individuals of different genders. Surely, there is more to it. And, is it changing?
And for this Rahman Baba says:

DA RAHMAN PA ASHIQAI KI STARGI OSHOEY
TSOOK CHI WAI ASHIQ RONDH WI HAGHA KHUAR SHA

As an individual grows his/her concept of love changes. He/she loves his/her parents and brothers and sisters as a child.

After attaining majority he/she feels more attraction for the opposite sex/gender................zaka kho wai

JANAN DA MOR AUO PLARA GRAAN DEY
ZAKA MI OKHKEY DA NIAZBENU STARGU ZENA

Then come the age and time for prestige, status in the society a beautiful house, car/vehicle and so on.

That is the very cycle explained in the Tafseer of Surah Hadeed. Thank you for sharing.

As I mentioned earlier, now that the code has been cracked about the love I was making mention of, let's confer that. The love between man and his Creator. The rest, between man and woman, between mother and father is known to most of us, but seldom do we acknowledge that the source of love is the love instilled by the closeness to his Creator, and in turn, Allah instills that love in man for Himself. I am interested in these sources of love.

And furthermore, my question about love being blind, was too a relevant one to the discussion I was trying to stir. I like how DaZahroJaam explained the concept of love being blind. That makes perfect sense, in the 'worldly' sense to me. As for the more spiritual sense, all of our articles of faith, the six things we believe in as Muslims are among the unseen, and yet, most of us have a strong fervour toward them, towards our Creator, toward our anbiyah and the likes. Rasulullah salallahu 'alayhi wa sallam expressed his love for us many a time, and that too was blind love, for blind love. We haven't seen him, yet our desires lie in emulating his flawless character, and he makes mention of his love for us for this very reason. And so, is love blind? Sure is.

ill take another stab at this, *kiddo*

i think the love between creation and the creator is incomprehendable, its a love that transends all worldly loves and has a unique place in the human psyche. the love of our creator comes not blindly, but by way of his message and the example of his chosen ones. this is why it is not blind love, but rather a bond that is unlike parents-child or lover-loved, it is a choice unlike any other.

its this love that took a group of a dozen believers 1400 yrs ago and turned them into one of the largest and most influential empires the world has ever known. and to modern examples, the love that inspired the mujahadin to fight the godless soviets, not for country but for islam when they knew they were walking into their deaths. there is no other ideology that implors us to struggle with no sureity of worldly gain than islam.

as i said before, love is faith. in the matter of islam, its simply believing in the unseen, there is no greater faith than this. in a world where you have to "see it to believe it" our love in our faith transends our worldly senses. our faith is cemented by the examples of prophets past but even our creator decided that the message of love and faith could not come instantly but through various stages in humanity and immediate circumstance. hence, the prophet was a living example throughout his days of revalation until Allah had decided that our prophet did all he could to cement this love in faith to his people before he passed on.

i may have wandered a bit there, but i have always been a crappy writer, so sorry about that
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

                Randolph,

You haven’t wandered, in fact, I wanted this very discussion to stir. And crappy writer, not in the slightest (in fact, I may be requesting your permission over time to quote you on some of this, I like how you word most of it). You’ve answered everything so well, I have little left to say. On my part, I only used those earlier phrases (as blind) to incite discussion and trigger questions and answer them. As you can see now, my intent was not the typical love thread that comes up on almost every forum you see. And despite the fact that our definition of closeness to our Creator and love for Him varies, essentially, I wanted to unfold this idea that love shouldn’t only be understood as that between a man and a woman. Understanding its sources should be an area we should delve into. And you've helped me do just that. So, over analysing was quite worth it, tsenga?

To discuss love using the word "love" in English is impossible. The word "love" in English is ambiguous, it has too many meanings and sub-meanings. Therefore, a healthy discussion on this topic must be done using the Arabic words for these feelings that are all usually encompassed in this particular word "love" in English.

For starters, let me quote something from Rabi'ah al-Basri. This, in essence, is the true meaning/definition of "love." Therefore, it is impossible to use this word loosely, for true "love" can only happen with respect to a relationship between man and God (notice how I put man first and God second); it is impossible between man and man. Moreover, God does not reciprocate His love for man in the manner man "should" love God. God cannot sacrifice Himself for man, but man should (and in reality is the true objective of man's purpose) to annihilate himself for God, just as a moth does in fire.

"O God! If I worship Thee for fear of Hell, burn me in Hell,
and if I worship Thee in hope of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise.
But if I worship Thee for Thy Own sake,
grudge me not Thy everlasting Beauty.”
                  I will explain in detail.

                        oh it is complicated, look:
i love my brothers, my parents, my people, my watan, i love sound of rubab, i love the flowers i have grown in my garden, i love the smell of fresh soil after sprinking water, . . . of course there is romantic love as well, i will leave that for the romeos on PF
how do you define it? erich fromm wrote about love, he talked of different kinds of love, i didn't get it.
kakargirl, i dont know if i love unconditionally the flowers in my garden or the smell of soil after sprinkling water on it, i guess the unconditional applies to my brothers and parents, for me.

mahzala, i would also recommend picking up a copy of rahman baba's poetry book. i bought it at a bookstore in kabul, its got the pashto and english wordings in it. a lot of stuff that has to do with love between creation and creator. i found a link for it...

                            http://www.rahmanbaba-poetry.com/

                            its the complete diwan.

in fact i will make a new thread about rahman baba.

A corpse lying on the open ground or buried under dirt is the epitome of love. You won't hear it whine or complain to the insects and worms that feast on its rotting flesh. Giving selflessly without asking for anything, to the earth it returns as mud.

"the capacity to be alone is the capacity to love. it may look paradoxical to you, but it is not. it's an adjustment to the truth. only those who are capable of being alone are people who are capable of love and capable of sharing it. capable of going to the deepest core of the other person with out possessing the other or depending on them and reducing them ...getting addicted to them. they allow the other absolute freedom knowing that if the other leaves they will not take their happiness with them. they will be just as happy if they were left alone...than why are they together? love is no longer a need but a luxury. they have learned to play their life as a solo instrument. the solo instrument player knows how to enjoy playing itself alone and finding another to play with while creating a harmony..."
he is right. love is often described as an obsession or an inclination. in reality it's neither of those. to idolize is not to love.

this is a quote from a philosopher who also happened to be a cult leader. he died long time ago. i am not going to give out his actual name for personal reasons nor do i agree with everything he says here but since it's about love...why not share it.
