There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
the capacity is inborn, its realization comes to being with understanding of God and self which is manifested through the mind and the soul. or rather responsible realization so as not to cheapen the idea of love.
at least thats what i think but what do i know lol
You know, sure you do. And so far, your ideas have developed quite well. You started off with a response I expected to this thread, we're heading in the right direction. I am not hiding anything, just waiting until I can point out another bingo. The idea of love that I have in mind can never be cheap, and thus my question: Is love what we think it is? (Just reiterating my point, no intentions for you to repeat yourself).
well thats as deep as i go lol gonna hit the sack now, good night.

Love is so strange. It's like electricity coursing through you. When you're in love you're like a conductor, and when you're not, you're like an insulator.
It's saddest of all when you love someone and they don't love you back the same way. You keep trying to zap them but nothing happens. They're unaffected. Eventually your battery runs out and you go into recharge mode.
Khair, it is akin to a disease when it's one-sided. You could tell someone they mean the world to you, that you'd do anything for them, that you'd spend the rest of your life with them... But to them you're no one. They just don't feel the same way.
I think this would be a great topic to write poetry on.

love is unconditional ,theres no competition, theres no pride ,you dont mind saying your sorry , it involves extra care, alot of trust, its a feeling of belong ,theres no hatred ,and the words flow from the heart not the mind theres no greed in it ,its just unconditional and pure its the king of emotions, stronger you and deeper than me it forgives and looks over all faults .
i don't think love has a definition. it tends to be very peculiar and definite at the same time. every love story though is defined by the individuals going through the experience of it.i see affection in the eyes of the other as the little corner of one's soul that has been conquered in the other with out the acknowledgment of one and the consent of the other. there we discover things about each other and perhaps ourselves that we were not aware of before. it takes over one's self leaving them helpless and overwhelmed. there we create a little world all to ourselves adorned with the little details of things which we find precious about the other. once this little part of us is taken away from us it will never come back to us. we lose that bit of us in the form of trust..faith and whatnot...
i don't believe in the theory of marriage first and love later because i see people who do not have a choice other than being with each other as a forced yet 'dignified' and safe idea for them to manipulate their habit of being around each other and inability to walk away from each other as love. (i don't think that makes any sense but you get the idea..)
why is love said to be blind? because it tends to overlook the faults of the other. the sweet fruits of love is when one's faults of their physical appearance is overlooked. an example of the bitterness is an abusive husband or boyfriend taking advantage of your tendency of overlooking their habit of abusing you by hitting you and stuff like that knowing you wont leave them..no it's not limited to two people of the opposite gender because parent's tend to turn their children in to spoiled brats because they don't discipline them well enough...or they over protect them and mess them up and stuff like that..(shut up, i am getting bored here..)
a few random things about love...
we love when we discover a little part of ourselves living in the other...recognizing that is sympathy. the struggle of pursuing it is love and holding on to it and not letting it out of your sight is passion. (can apply to all types of love...love for one's religion..children..friends..and whatnot..) the breakage of the links between this chain is what makes your relationship with the other faulty.
to whom whenever and however one chooses to declare or surrender being in the state love with is one's own calculations of their character. hence the word "love" should not be taken in vain nor should it be over used to the point where it loses it's novelty. the less it's mentioned the more precious it will remain. (do remind the person you love of your love for them as often as you can but please refrain from telling random people you love them because they have a beautiful smile..) love is not simple nor is it innocent.
I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

This isn't an intelligence test, but the responses have already proved my point. That love, today, is only understood as the love between a man and a woman. While clearly, this isn't the case. This is more than the typical threads that come out on every forum about this topic. Randolph85, in his earlier post hinted at the sources of love. I am interested in those.
To understand love, one has to love, and to love, one has to know how to love. Love, I think it is the most persistent and undeniable reality of life and an inborn matter, almost like a grip and bond between two souls, or a soul and another Being perhaps? Love can make you bear any kind of pain and any kind of sacrifice. More than often, love finds you. And you do not fall in love, you grow to love, to understand its roots, its stem, its branches and its fruits.
too lazy to write a full reply, or maybe my English just isn't good enough to reply to the excellent posts
however i will post this great poem by mam Ibn ul Qayyim al Jawziyyah
i remember hearing one of the shuyukh of ''al kauthar'' institute reciting it
it is taken from '' An-Nooniyyah''
The love of the Beloved
must be unconditionally returned.
If you claim love
yet oppose the Beloved,
then your love is but a pretence
.
You love the enemies of your Beloved
and still seek love in return.
You fight the beloved of your Beloved.
Is this Love or the following of shaytaan?
True devotion is nothing
but total submission
of body and soul
to One Love.
We have seen humans claim to submit,
yet their loyalties are many.
They put their trust here, and their hope there,
and their love is without consequence.
Spot on Abubakr. That is the love I was hoping to get at. How the concept of love has changed to evolve around pain, around hardship, around loss, but the source of this love is often overlooked. Why we love and how we do is misunderstood. Very rarely is this idea of love associated with an inner happiness, contentment, satisfaction and strength, because, the idea of true love has been tarnished.
love is even when your not happy but you love like my family back home living in war the every day attacks the horrific things going on in kandahar but they love that country they want to die on that land all due to respect love and devotion to that country thats their home a sense of belong, you love in hardship and sometimes you even love a very hard lesson life taught you because it made you a better person love is and ocean it cant be defined to one thing love exist in all forms.
Love is an extreme form of happiness. concept of love itself is fictional. Love is when you are extremely happy and when you are treated very good and when your life revolve around your partner.
If love means one thing, and love itself is fictional, what of its meanings? But, let's not go in circles now. Abubakr pointed out the purpose of this thread. Let's walk around that instead. While I understand it is a very personal relationship, I still wonder at how this idea of love (what Abubakr pointed out) is very rarely addressed or acknowledged. It's more than a stereotype, sure I understand that too, but do people delve into the sources of love? Should we?
