But if you were to speak only Farsi you would have a better chance in allying with Iran.
    Nazia,

Culture and language cannot be the only barometer for cooperation and common interest in geo-politics. If that was the case, then the ISI wouldn't be stack with Pashtuns from top to bottom and there wouldn't be too much antagonism between Afghanistan and Pakistan a country where many Pashtuns are architects in its policies towards Pashtun Afghanistan. Pashtuns of Afghanistan only have religion in common with "Pakistan" not its state and dominant culture which is Panjabi and Indic. We only have common culture and ethnicity with Pashtuns who are culturly and linguistically minor/subordinate group within Pakistan themselve struggling to even speak thier langauge how they used to speak it 50 years ago. This is another issue which can be discussed and it is discussed before. So if I were to choose between Panjabi Pakistan and Farsiwan Iran, I definitely have dispropotionately in common with Iran than Pakistan. But my argument wasn't on cultural and religious base, I should've been more clear. My mere point was power-balancing, so mere language shouldn't be an obdurate obstacle in way of our cooperation with Iran. We share alot with Iran too, including a long common history. Pashu is also an eastern Iranic language by the way.

Historically Pashtuns and Irianians have been adversaries. but culturally we have more in common with iranians. I beleive Iran would like to see a stable afghanistan with farsi speakers as the policy makers that are dependent on them(iranians) to stay in power. The leaders in kabul today have been put in place by americans but they are more loyal to iran and russia than america. If america leaves afghanistan, Kabul will be working for Irans and russians interests which contradicts americans interests so america can never leave afghanistan to make sure that does not happen.
America have to eventually make amends with Iran in order for American interests to play out in its favor in the region. The Arabs and Pakistan are very nervious of this senerio and are doing their best to postpone this eventual friendship. There has been talk about Iran and America making amends but I beleive Iran is aware of its leverage that america needs it more than it needs america. They might be asking for something that america isnt willing to deliver and Iran is the key to delivering the region(central and south asia) to america from chinese and russian influence.

I have already summed it up as axis of convenience, the alliance between U.S. and Iran in Afghanistan, and that is also bound by a limit. My reply was in reference to the rest of your post. As to who is loyal to who and what Iran wants is Farsi this and Farsi that. No doubt if they could they might as well have had England too. There is alot of unnecessary paranoia about Iran.

Iran was enclosed by two enemies on both the west side of the border and the east side of the border. The US used extaordinary means to free it from the containment. You tell me who is Irans best friend in the region. How is it not America, when it got rid of saddam(whom iran couldnt defeat in 8 years) and put in a government that is totaly loyal to iran, and got rid of the taliban who at one time iran threatened to invade after their diplomats/spies were killed.

How is it that Saddam buclear facilities were bombed and syrias nuclear facilities were bombed but irans nuclear facilities are untouched

The theocratic nature of Iran has put it into a win win situation. The permutations and combination matrix shows us that if the ISAF forces kill a Taliban, it is another sunni [anti shia] subtracted from their enemy list. If a Taliban kills an ISAF soldier, it is another non muslim [hence enemy] subtracted from their list.
If ISAF kills a Pashtun in occupied Pakhtunkhwa via drone attack for example, it is the same scenario. If Pakistan's ISI kills an Afghan it is the same scenario again. If Afghanistan or US pressurises Pakistan, they consider it weakness of a Sunni state hence their enemy. If Pakistan pressurises Afghanistan , the result is again the same. They raise their eyebrows if an Afghan shia or Pakistani Shia is killed but then this is the sacrifice which these Shia Afghans or Shia Pakistanis are born for according to them.

There is only one thing which ring bells in their minds. When Afghans prefer their national interests over the individual interests of shia ,sunni, muslim ,non muslim etc, then the reality and real face of the Iranians [as well as non-Iranians] gets revealed and unveiled.

                          Pir Rokhan,
While I agree it has put Iran in a win win situation, but I believe this was done on purpose. Why did America target Afghanistan and Iraq why did they not target Pakistan or Saudi Arabia which was more connected to 911 and this exremists that america supposedly fears. Saddam would be last on one on the list america would attack if that was true since he was a sworn enemy of the extremists.
Do you really beleive that the american elites are so stupid that they actually beleived Saddam had WMD, they knew he did not it was just an excuse for a different agenda.

My view was reference to Iran's interest in Afghaistan not US interest in Afghanistan. US and the world have now realised that the real source of unrest in the region is Pakistan. Things will change with expedited speed in Pakistan in near future as a proof od this realisation.
