Kurdistan, Baluchistan, Pashtunistan...all of these would be "stans" would be nothing more than failed states with crippled economies. Even Afghanistan in its present form isn't a viable state. Afghanistan should be annexed into either Iran or Pakistan if it wants an economic future in the 21st century.

Brother, look at the Afghans, impoverished, poor, badly equipped-yet when the US threatened Taliban with loss of power for not handing over OBL-you know what the response was. They told the US that they will not hand him over-and they stuck their guns and lost power. Could Pakistan even ever think of defying the U.S. in that manner if push came to shove? I think not.

Afghanistan's response was what we all saw. How many common Afghans took up Arms and fought Americans? Normal Afghans are going about their day to day life under American Occupation. Occupied but not pacified. The war is far from over. U.S. soldiers are still being killed. The guns aren't silent.

You are missing the whole point- the Taliban knew they would lose- a ragtag bunch of people fighting a superpower- yet they still had the balls to accept the challenge. The writing was on the wall with that one.

I think you will find that many normal Afghans have taken up arms against the U.S.

Pakistan can't even fight off India let alone step up to a challenge from a world superpower.
