There are specific rulings from the time of Prophet Muhammad sal allahu alayhi wasalam about RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS. Nawroz was a RELIGIOUS festival. That's why it was banned. Likewise, here in Europe where I live, we don't participate in Christmas festivities and other RELIGIOUS customs of the mushrikeen.

This is an issue of aqeedah and fiqh. Somethings are pre-Islamic but not religious in nature or don't have any shirky aspects. Other pre-islamic stuff contain shirk. For example: believing that the son of god was born on 25th of December is shirk and kufr. There are similar theological reasons for Zoroastrian festival of nawroz. That's why Muslims aren't supposed to participate.

A number of Muslim scholars have said that if celebrating the arrival of spring is your culture and custom, you can do it without committing any sin. For example, we have a festival of agriculture. People can attend all sorts of festivities to welcome spring.

All of that can be done without specific signs and aspects of Zoroastrianism like calling it 'Nawroz' or serving food that use to be consumed by zoroastrians for religious reasons.

You have to make a distinction between what is specific to a particular belief system which against Islam and general stuff.

There are allot of stuff we have learned and adopted from non-Muslim cultures and traditions. Everything that isn't religious and doesn't contain anything haram is okay to practice.

But the reason why Nawroz is being revived is because it is done to erase islamic identity of people. That's why the communist government in Afghanistan was so fanatic in promoting Nawroz. Most Pashtuns who didn't even know what Nawroz is suddenly started doing this after seeing propaganda on tv.

Now people act like they have been practicing this for centuries.
What is your evidence that Nawroz is part of zoroastrianism or that the origin of Nawroz is Zoroastrianism? Spring eqvinox has been celebrated as the start of the farming season in northern hemisphere even before Zoroastrianism.

Islam is not a religion against enjoyment. It is spirituality, morality and law. Some aspects of life that may seem harmless and joyful may be against Islam.

Just because people enjoy something it doesn't mean it must be halal.
      have a source for this?

Naoruz is an ocassion, a time once a year for families to gather and spend time with each other...

I agree that some things that May Seem pleasure May be against Islam but nawruz isnt one lf them...in fact Islam promotes that one must spend time with family and relatives and since Nawruz is just that, its in accordance to the teachings of Islam

What does aft mewa and nawroz have to do with pedopohilia?

Pedopohilia is not part of culture...there exists sick basterds, these people are sick in the head, and take advantage of children under difficult circumstances (often parentless)...unfortunately the state dont have the infrastructure nor the resources to combat the problem effectively.....your comparison is retarded....

Here is a Zoroastrian perspective on Nawroz:

History of NowRooz Persian New Year, History of NoRuz Iranian New Year, History ofNoRooz First Day Of Spring, Persian New Year History and Tradition, Persian Greeting Cards, NowRooz traditional food and table settings, NoRuz Chaharshanbeh Suri, NoRoo

Nowruz 216: Who are Persia's Zoroastrians and why is their festival being celebrated in India?

What you are failing to grasp is that a religious festival may have existed before a particular religion but still have religious significance.

People celebrated the end of winter in February in Europe by scaring away the demons of the winter. It is now called Carnival.

The purpose was to welcome spring and to say goodbye to harsh winter months. But theology, metaphysical concepts etc were involved. This why some Christians don't celebrate it because they deem it as a pagan tradition.

The same thing happened in Asia. Zoroastrianism was the main religion in Khurasan and Nawroz and meherjan were their two religious festivals. It was tied to their belief system.

If you want to celebrate the end of winter and arrival of spring, nobody is going to object. But dont call it Nawroz and practice Zoroastrian customs or raise that pole at the alleged grace of Ali and all other sorts of stupid stuff.

Just like Carnivals Nowruz today is a cultural celebration, not religious. Kaaba was a pagan polytheistic place but was adopted by Prophet Muhammad as part of Islam. If its ok for Arabs its ok for us too.

Pashtuns are all over the internet talking BS against Nowruz. I can't understand all this Pashtun hostility toward anything Persian. Seriously you guys need to change your tribal mentality.

Same thing apples for many Muslims. For some reason all these ultra fanatic religious zealots don't care about suicide bombs and many other injustices that happen in our country on a daily basis but when it comes to an harmless tradition they lose their mind.

I am glad to see that Afghans are celebrating our new year more than ever. Even my parents tell me that back in the old days Nowruz wasnt celebrated the way it is today. I guess we should thanks Tajik nationalists for this lol

IJT goons always used to fight MQM in Karachi. I agree with Shamlawar in principle, we shouldn't celebrate pagan festivals. Though Attan is just dance form and nothing to do with any pagan religion.

              Arabs Beiudon have similar dance.

The reason why Muslim scholars believe ritual dances like Debka or the Khaleeji version of Attan are allowed is because they are customs of people. They say that these cultural expressions are not against Islam. But any religious dance like some sort of religious ritual would still be considered as haram.

The most prominent Hanafi Jurists who have issued fatawa saying that even accepting gifts or food from people on the occasion of Nawroz is kufr, are actually Tajik/Persian.

Are you saying hundreds of years ago Pashtuns forced iconic scholars to condemn Nawroz because they hate Persians?

Well then seems Islam is indeed an intolerant and fascistic religion then. Even when this religion has adopted plenty of pre-islamic/pagan traditions. If people are willing to accept Arab paganism we should be able to accept Persian paganism too.

I am not talking about religious people (pretty obvious Tajik and Pashtun hardcore Muslims will agree on this) I am talking about "average Pashtuns". Just check out Facebook.. you know what I am talking about. Those guys are the same Pashtuns who claim Dari and Farsi are different languages. Its annoying the way many of your brothers in ace are always trying to erase our heritage.

Have you guys ever considered that may be, may be, the reason behind so many people despising Pashtuns in both Afghanistan and Pakistan it might be to some degree your own fault??

Seems like Zoroastrians just hijacked a festival which existed before Zoroastrianism and gave it a religious spin and incorporate it into their religion. What is significant is that spring eqvinox was celebrated before zoroastrianism and after arrival of Islam, any Aspects linked to Zoroastrianism have been removed fo make it compatible with Islam.

So if we get rid of the Zoroastrian aspects of Nawruz, it would be OK to celebrate? Can you name some aspects of Nawruz as celebrated today which might have Zoroastrian origin or are anti Islamic?

Banning festivals which are not deemed as Islamic is pointless and oppressive. In Lahore they banned Basant, (also known as Vasanti in India). It's a tradition which existed many thousands of years, and a way for people to enjoy themselves. It has no negative impacts, same goes for Nauroz which is a vital part of the Perso-Iranian identity.

Why ban something when it doesn't affect anyone? Why not ban dog-fighting or animal cruelty? Why go for pre-Islamic festivals? Fascism at its best.

Tajiks are the last fortress of civilization in Afghanistan We are the only solid barrier that stands between barbarism and civilization. Tribal and religious zealots want to erase our identity using Islam as a political tool. Under these circumstances we got to become even more hardcore and brutal. Rationalism is a dead way when it comes brain-dead human beings.

Most of these hardcore religious zealots want us to become Arabs. All these statements proves that Islam is at the end of the day an Arab nationalist religion. Islamic values are ok but Arabism is not. Its good to see that Iran and Turkey are taking over the ME.
