Even in Sindh and South Punjab it is now practiced by many Sindhi tribes like Soomros and in South Punjab by Khars who are Jatts but this is mostly Baloch in origin.

The Baloch system of Sardars or Tumandari system is one of the most hierarchial ones in modern times with individual Baloch chiefs holdings hundrerds of thousands of acres of land. It is a tradition among them to touch the feet of the chief of tribe as a greeting or place their turban on the Sardar's feet.

Here you can see 'Wasu Khan' who was famous Baloch singer singing for his tribe chief and touching his feet

To be oppressive you don't need to have large land holding meaning hundreds or thousands of acres. Let's not pretend everything is great in punjab. Since there are more malik/chaudhries ,jatts etc over time landholding have became smaller per head in villages as population grows. But we are forgetting about people who essentially dont have any agriculture land from massalis, marasis to lohars and telis.

I've seen some old PTV dramas on this issue and they are not far off from reality of rural areas in central punjab. Now days it's less so because agricultural no longer is as important as it once was. And with law and order, police etc mean chaudries cannot impose their will on others like in old days.

But it's not anything like Baloch system you are describing. Its more egalitarian in nature in punjab. Holding thousands of acres of land should be crime at this point. Land should be divided between people of same tribe if not outsiders.
