Pashto will never have this status nor in Afghanistan nor in Pakistan. If you want people to learn Pashto you need to have a strong culture and contribute with positive things to society. So far Pashtuns are not a source of progress and stability but rather instability and ignorance. As long as you don't change this Pashto will remain a tribal language for uneducated people.

In the short and medium term I don't see this changing. Talibanism is the most probably outcome for those provinces inhabited by Pashtuns after all Taliban are real Pashtuns, they are the main Pashtun political and military force and they represent real Pashtun tribalism.
As I have said before, I don't care if other people speak Pashto or not. It is not our concern.
I don't want Pashto to become the lingua franca of Afghanistan especially by force. I just want Pashtuns themselves to have oppurtunity to use Pashto in all spehers of life and not be pressurised to resort to other languages in order to fit in with other ethnicities in the state. At the moment that is not possible especially in Pakistan because there are too many competing languages and the state supports Urdu as the language oft he state. Urdu was brought over from northern India and imposed on all ethnicities in Pakistan indirectly to create a sense of nationhood unified by one language. Its not fair on Punjqbis,.Sindhis,.Pashtuns etc because their own languages become second choice. Learning languages is not bad but to force it upon people is not acceptable.

Taliban type mentality exists among all ethnic groups in Islamic countries. Are Daesh who are even more extreme than Taliban Pashtuns or tribals? The reason they are more successfull in Afghanistan is because of the independent nature of Afghans who are not controlled by the state and are heavily armed after soviet war.
