It seems as though there are two opinions from the US side on who they should be put in the presidential chair. Abdullahx2 and Ghani.
Ghani would probably serve US interests better since he would be the Pashtun face and all Abdullah would do is unite Pashtun nationalists, mullahs and others against Tajiks and Abdullah does not have the charm or the intellect to balance Pashtuns with other groups.

So Ghani would probably prevail not because the Afghans want him but because the US will choose him. If the referendum in Crimea is meaningless under Russian guns then so is the election in Afghanistan meaningless under US guns.
While one can draw parallels to Crimea/Ukraine with Afghanistan, there are differences. The Russian troops (supposedly pro-Russian Crimean militias that appeared from nowhere) are in Crimea which is mostly ethnic Russian. They have a population that mostly supports them against the new pro-EU regime in Kiev. Both elections in Crimea and Afghanistan are illegal and have no credibility due to the fact that both territories are under foreign occupation.

This 'election' is really a competition between the US/NATO and Karzai as to who can outrig the other.

My point is that if US wanted Abdullah then why he could not win? It means US had/has no influence on Afghan elections otherwise Abdullah would had won last time.

Leave them be. People like them believes in conspiracy theories. There is nothing wrong in being skeptical/critical of something, but it is plain wrong to blindly believe in conspiracies. I myself is very critical of USA and the Afghan election, but these guys take it way to far.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

Last time, the US/NATO wanted Abdullah 2 to win. This time the US/NATO want Abdullah or Ghani to win.
ghani had opposed the war in afghanistan. he supported the taliban when every one was opposing them. he is a pashtun nationalist. who loves afghanistan. he refused to join karzai. and yeh karzai was supported by US(bush) , he has issues with obama who refused to sponsor his warlords gang. Ghani didn't want to do anything with karzai.

A memoir by former U.S. defence secretary Robert Gates that is harshly critical of President Barack Obama’s war leadership suggests that American attempts to influence the 2009 election in Afghanistan to ensure the defeat of President Hamid Karzai amounted to “a clumsy and failed putsch.”

The U.S. envoy to Afghanistan at the time, Richard Holbrooke, used his influence to support Karzai’s rivals in the election, Foreign Policy magazine reported about the book Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War, set to be published next week.

Holbrooke, who died in 2010, had publicly advocated a free and fair election, but Gates writes that the envoy "was doing his best to bring about the defeat of Karzai…. What he really wanted was to have enough credible candidates running to deny Karzai a majority in the election, thus forcing a run-off in which he could be defeated."

Dude, as I mentioned earlier, not Abdullah is backed by US or any foreign country but Ghani. All those brits-owned ''American organisations'', in America and UK are in supportive position of Ghani. Abdullah´s broader reputation results just because of the huge support he has from the commanders and tribal leaders of Farsiwans and Hazaras, financed and paid from Balkh. Abdullah is just not considered as anti-western or warlord because of the close relationship of balkh with Germany and US diplomats. Do you know that the head of the Independent Commission for Human Rights and the head and a dozen of Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan and many other british created organizations and institutions in Afghanistan are in/directly part of Ghanis team and show bias toward the elections and Human Rights in an ethno-centric way? Apart from this, aren´t you suprised why so many election members of Dr. AA are targeted in regions where Ghani has weak influence? It is clear what is going on right now, just at the moment no one speaks about such things in Afghanistan because no one want to be labeled as Taliban or anti-foreigners. You guys don´t have any real idea what was the scene in the background of the last 13years. Our Mayesty Mr. Hamid Karzai was maybe the president but the real ''president'' was Ashraf Ghani. He was the man playing behind the presidential chair. He himself was the strings for UK-owned ''US'' policies. Not all Americans are in Afghanistan to serve their own interest. ''The real America'' and the real American government are in fact our friends. They want to help us but UK as the biggest danger of our modern time, the biggest neo-colonialist power is the problem. They are pro-Taliban and pro-war. They are financing and supporting Taliban and other terrorists via Pakistan. They are interested to keep the entire region there burning and devided for the new world order. Ghani´s grandfather and father had close ties to Brits and even supported them to invade Afghanistan. Have anyone of you knew this before?? I guess NO! Ghani is just playing with Dostum. Once he wins the Duranai Pashtuns are out of the game in the south fallen to the Taliban being part of his branch. Why do you think we from the Arg can only reach Duranai Taliban while Ghalzis are rejecting every contact? Ghani has very close and deep contacts to them and the Haqqanis. Even during the communist Ghani and Najibullah used Dostum in eastern and southern Afghanistan for the dirty job. If Duranai Pashtuns don´t play any important role only the bad Tajiks could form again a force against him and his government. For this reason he created many plans to sideline them as well. When Tajiks and Hazaras in central Afghanistan, at least in bamian valley where he aimed to settle alot of Ghalzi nomads, are finished then he will finish the Uzbeks as well. In 2009 he called Dostum a murderer, a criminal who should be executed and now he joined him. Among 1-2Mio Uzbeks he could not find another Uzbek, someone with education and university degree? Uzbeks are leader-centric. Everyone who is used to represent them they will follow. Doesn´t matter of DOstum´s men are raping and oppressing the own Uzbek people in Takhar, Kunduz, Faryab or Sari Pul. Without a leader these people are hopeless and lost. Ghani has collected all tribalists. All those Dostumis and Junbishis are dreaming of Birlik Turkistan (Turkish State) in northern Afghanistan, streching from Faryab to Badakhshan and even to Sari Pul and Paghman. Hazara tribalist like Aziz Royesh has the same anomosity toward Duranai Pashtuns and Farsiwans. Mosavi, Royesh and other secularist nationalist of Wahdat claims that Hazara country streches from Zabul to the border of Iran and that many Pashtuns and Farsiwans are in fact Hazaras who hide their Shia and Hazara identity. These people don´t hide their political ideologies. YOu just need to visit the wahdat´s nationalist facebook groups or Dostumis. They want an independent Hazara state in the next future. Aziz Royesh has also the Brits behind him. Mosavi and Royesh and other Hazara nationalists claim that Hazaras are in twice than Tajiks in number. Ghani´s team is consisting of Hazara, Uzbek, Pashtun and to some extent of Arab Gailani and Mojadidi people from eastern Afghanistan. If anyone promote and advocate war in Afghanistan then you will see that Ghani is the source for it. At the end all these tribalists will kill eachother. Dostum had an alliance with everyone and he betrayed everyone. He betrayed Najibullah, he betrayed his allies, he betrayed our government and now he will also betray Ghani.

One claimed that our (Arg) team has no support which is absolutely not true. We have the support of already 85% in all southern Afghanistan. We are expending our influence right now toward eastern and western Afghanistan. Many Uzbeks and Hazaras in the government are advocating their own societies to support us as well. Please, don´t spread lies.

Under Ghani our economy will made by around 85% of opium and marihuna. Legalizing this it will lead to more infected people. Afghanistan suffers already from 1.5 million drug-addicted people.. and this will rise 10x more. An economy can only grow when you have an industry. Afghanistan has no industry. To have an industry you need money and support from states that alreay have industries. In Afghanistan there is also another and bigger problem which is the ethnic devision. Do you think an Uzbek will allow me from Kandahar to join the gas in the north as well as part of national policy? The Uzbek will claim those gas fields as his own. I believe that Ghani won´t live much long. He is already deadly ill. If he dies your president will be a criminal Pashtun murderer named Dostum whose education doesn´t go beyond the 3rd school class.
