This is not true, he stated many time during the debates what he is going to do what his economcal reforms are and how he will progress Afghanistan....
I don't know where you get this information from and could you please post that BBC interview where he stated that economy will help itself, its not something he would say, when I heard him many times explaning on how and what he will do to bust Afghan economy.....maybe you are confusing him with some one else.....

Let see what happens when the one that "wins" the election! Like I said, if some of our intellectual hardcore patriots, are not in power. I am always sceptical about politicians. Afghanistan needs a man like Putin! Play all sides, but in power makes the best decisions to improve life for Afghans.

Putin is a national hero mostly because he made Russia stable and 100 % free from international Mafia bankers. In year 2000 when he became president, Russia owned 26-30 billions dollars of debt to foreign MAFIA Banks. In only 6 years he paid of them so Russia could be 110% independence country! And today Russia is super power again by its own and has 3/4 of worlds population by its side meaning China and India. India buys 75 % of all its arm supplies from Russia.
